Cell sat silently in jail down in HFIL. He watched the Ginyu Force and King Cold playing cards. Frieza sat in a corner taking a nap; he wouldn’t play cards because he was afraid of losing. Cell let out a large sigh and tried to take a nap himself.
A loud conversation could be heard outside. One of the ogres had come to take over watching the prisoners. “It’s my turn now. Besides, you have paper work to fill out,” said one.
“What paper work?” Asked the other.
“Some guy is taking his 24 hours tomorrow. He wants to see his wife and kids once more.”
“What is it with these people. Aren’t they satisfied that they’re dead? I wish King Yama never started allowing people to go back to life for 24 hours.”
This caught Cell’s attention. People can go back for a day? Hmm…He thought of Lara. I wish I could see her one more time. He got up and went to the cell door. “What’s this about going back for 24 hours?” He asked.
The two ogres looked at him and laughed. “If you’re thinking of going, then forget it. King Yama would never let someone like you go back.”
“Do you know that for a fact,” asked Cell.
“No, but we don’t need to. Because you’re down here and got yourself in there, you wouldn’t even be considered.”
The other ogre agreed. “Besides, you would have to have something to go back to. You can’t just go back and go on a killing rampage.”
“How would you know? I demand you ask this Yama guy,” Cell said.
“No chance.”
Cell stuck his arm through the bars and picked one of the ogres up. “I said ask!”
“Fine…put me down!” The ogre backed away from the door so Cell couldn’t grab him again. “I’ll ask, but don’t think I’ll be coming back with the answer you want.” He left and the other ogre sat in the chair next to the jail door.
The Ginyu Force and King Cold had listened to the whole thing. “Why do you want to be alive again so badly if you’re just going to come back here?” Asked King Cold.
Cell didn’t answer; he went back to his spot and sat down. He tried to picture the look on Lara’s face when he went back to her.
In King Yama’s office, the ogre asked the question for Cell. “King Yama, sir. The guy named Cell you sent down to HFIL has a request, sir.”
King Yama looked down to the ogre. “What is it? Can’t you see I’m busy?”
The ogre cleared his throat. “This Cell guy wants to take his 24 hours sir.”
King Yama raised an eyebrow then began laughing. “You’ve got to be kidding me! I already looked at his records, and there’s nothing in them except killing people on Earth.”
“I don’t know, sir, he said that there was something.”
“Well, I’ll look over it again, but I’m sure there isn’t anything.” King Yama flipped to the “C’s” in his book. He found Cell’s name and quickly read through his life. Then his eyes became wide when he read something he missed before. “I can’t believe it…”
“What is it sir?”
“He…qualifies…”
“Seriously? That guy actually left something of value behind?”
“More like someone,” King Yama corrected. “Well, because he’s in HFIL and hasn’t been on the side of good, he would need special permission from the Grand Kai.”
“Are you going to just let it pass?”
“I can’t. The proof is right here. He could go back if the Grand Kai okays it. You’ll have to bring Cell here.”
“Me!? I couldn’t handle him!”
“Well, find someone who can. Put the special handcuffs on him and warn him that if he wants to go back, he must cooperate.” King Yama dismissed the ogre.
Back down in HFIL the ogre that talked to King Yama got the special handcuffs and went to get Cell. When he got to the jail door, he said, “Hey! You there, Cell.”
Cell looked up. The ogre motioned for him to come over. When Cell got to the door the ogre explained that he could go back. “King Yama said you could by his standards, but first you need the permission from the Grand Kai.”
“Then ask him,” said Cell.
“I’m going to, but you have to come too because if he says yes you’ll leave right then and there. I’m going to let you out, but you have to wear these, and you can’t break them so don’t even try.” He held up the handcuffs.
“Why?” Asked Cell.
“Because you’re a bad guy! Haven’t you figured that out yet?” The ogre opened the door and put the handcuffs on Cell’s wrists. The ogre led him to a bus that was waiting for them.
The Ginyu Force, King Cold, and Frieza looked on in disbelief. “Why does he get to go? That’s not fair,” said Jeice.
The ogre and Cell arrived at the Welcome center. King Yama didn’t say anything, but watched as Cell walked through the gates to the airport. Cell was taken by plane to the Grand Kai’s planet. When they arrived, Cell couldn’t believe the number of fighters that were training.
“Can these things come off now?” He asked referring to the handcuffs.
“No!” The ogre snapped.
Someone that knew Cell saw him walking by. Goku thought he was seeing things. He ran over to see if that really was Cell. “Cell?”
Cell turned around. “Ah Goku. So this is where they put you huh?”
“Yeah. Why are you here?”
Cell smiled. “I’m going back to Earth.”
“What!? How can that be?”
“You’re allowed to take 24 hours to go back to the place you came from. And I’m going.”
“They’re letting you?” Goku couldn’t believe it.
“Hey,” the ogre said, “let’s get going! I’m not here for my health!”
“There’s no need for yelling,” a voice said. The three looked around and no one was there. Then the Grand Kai appeared in front of them.
“Grand Kai, sir!” The ogre knelt down.
“So, Cell,” he said, “you want to go back to Earth?”
“Yes. But how did you know?”
“I know everything,” he responded. “Besides, I just got a fax from King Yama. I guess you’re eligible to go…but I don’t know if I should let you go.”
“Why not? You said I’m eligible.”
“Well, I’m afraid you’ll start causing chaos again.”
“Look, I won’t. Just let me go,” Cell pleaded.
“Well…” The Grand Kai stroked his moustache. “I guess so. But there are rules you have to follow. If you break one, your back up here in a flash and back in jail down in HFIL.”
“Fine.”
“You can’t kill anybody is number one. Two, you can’t go around trying to scare people. It’s been awhile since you’ve been there, but people will remember you, I’m sure.”
“I’ve only been gone for a day,” Cell said.
“You’ve been here for a day, but back on Earth five years have gone by.”
Five years? Cell thought. What if Lara has forgotten me by now? She might have forgotten all about me
“Three,” the Grand Kai continued, “When the 24 hours are just about up, you better have said your good-byes and all, because as soon as time is up, you’re gone. Got all that?” Cell nodded. “Good. Let’s see…it’s almost two o’clock where you want to go. I’ll send you down in one minute.”
Cell thought about Lara. He didn’t know that five years have gone by already. He became skeptical about the whole idea.
The Grand Kai interrupted his thoughts. “Okay Cell, you ready?”
“I guess so,” he said.
The handcuffs fell off of Cell’s wrists. The Grand Kai snapped his fingers, and he said, “Have fun.” Cell disappeared and was on his way back to Earth.
Goku stood there in shock. “I can’t believe him of all people can go back.”
“If it wasn’t for some girl down there, he wouldn’t have gone,” said Grand Kai.
“Girl? What girl?” Asked Goku.
The Grand Kai whispered what the fax said about Cell. Goku couldn’t believe it. “So, he’s got…” started Goku.
The Grand Kai nodded.
