Part 2
After Mia
had finished her breakfast, Kaioshin had offered to take her on a little tour
of the planet. She agreed and they
walked together. At first, both felt
each other’s presence sort of awkward.
The only mortals that had been on Kaioshinkai before were Goku and
Gohan, but they were there for a specific reason. Mia was as well, but for a much different reason.
Mia would
periodically glance to the side to look at her companion. She never would have guessed that he was a
god of all things. She thought gods
never came to earth…but she was happy to know she was wrong. She had had crushes like all girls do, but
never in her life did she feel so serious about this one. She was almost to the point of thinking it
wasn’t just a simple crush.
After an
hour of walking, the two returned to the house. They both stopped at the front doors and turned to the
other. Mia’s face turned red with
embarrassment for an unknown reason.
“I don’t
mean to be so straightforward,” Mia said softly, “but I think I’ve fallen for
you…”
Kaioshin
smiled and pushed back a lock of her gold hair. “That’s interesting,” he said with a smile and a soft voice. “Because I think the same has happened to
me.”
The air
became so silent after his last few words they both got caught up in the
moment. Mia’s body stiffened as
Kaioshin slowly leaned over to her. His
eyes looked into hers, as he was about to kiss her. When he did so, Mia didn’t know what to do. Someone like this before had never kissed
her before. Mia’s arms found their way
to the god’s neck; her hands played with his hair. They kissed for several minutes and then parted. Both seemed to be almost at a loss for
breath.
“I can’t
believe this is happening to me,” Mia said softly as she laid her head on
Kaioshin’s shoulders.
“I know
what you mean,” he replied pulling her closer.
“I never expected all of this could come from being curious and
concerned.
Mia had
spent three days on Kaioshinkai. But
finally, at the end of the third day, she had decided she had better go
home. Kaioshin agreed to be with her
when she broke the news to her father about their relationship.
They
traveled to Earth by means of teleportation; something that Mia didn’t know how
to take after it had happened. They
appeared at Mia’s front door. She
opened the door and looked in. “He
doesn’t seem to be here,” she said, relaxing the grip she had on Kaioshin’s
hand.
“No,”
Kaioshin replied. “He’s here.”
“Then he
must be somewhere else because he’s not in the living room.” Suddenly footsteps could be heard coming
from down the hall.
“Who’s
there?” Mia’s father asked a few feet from the door.
Mia and
Kaioshin stepped in and faced him. He
raised an eyebrow when he saw Kaioshin.
“So you finally decided to return home, eh?”
“Daddy, we
have to talk,” Mia said.
“Yeah,” he
said. “Starting with this character.”
“This is my
boyfriend, Kaioshin,” she told him.
“Boyfriend!? So you took off for days with him, am I
right?” He brought a bottle up to his
mouth and took a large sip.
Mia tightened
her hold on Kaioshin’s hand again.
“Daddy, please…don’t do that. It
makes you do things that I know you don’t want to do.”
“What are
you talking about?” He asked. “I’ll do
as I damn well please. And get this
thing out of my house,” he said pointing towards the god before him.
“He’s not
leaving,” Mia said bravely.
This time,
her father gave no warning. He raised
his hand to strike her for talking back at him. Mia opened her eyes to see his hand inches away from her face. She looked over to see Kaioshin starring at
her father.
“What’s
going on!?” Her father asked.
“I ask you
to please keep your hands to yourself,” Kaioshin said calmly.
He looked
over at the purple man standing next to his daughter. “Who the hell do you think you are? This is my daughter and my house! I’ll do as I please.”
To his
total surprise, his feet left the ground and somehow flew over to the other
side of the room. “Mr. Karr,” Kaioshin
said. “I have no reason to hurt you. But it is my duty to protect those innocent
of crime.”
“What do
you mean by that? I am innocent of
crime.”
“No, I’m
afraid you’re not. You drink and get
yourself drunk, causing you to do unforgivable things to those you love. I came to give you the help you need, but I
need your cooperation.”
“You’re
ridiculous,” the man responded. He got
up and approached the young god, looking down upon him. “I should teach you the respect you
obviously never learned.”
“It is not
I that needs to learn respect,” Kaioshin said, closing his eyes at how difficult
this man was being.
Mia’s
father smiled and went to throw a punch at Kaioshin. However, his actions where stopped before they could reach their
goal. Kaioshin opened his eyes, and his
opponent fell to the ground.
“What did
you do!?” Mia asked in shock.
“Don’t
worry,” Kaioshin said looking at her.
“I put him in a short state of dormancy.”
“Kaioshin…I
only want him to be the way he was before the accident…”
“And how
was that?”
“Like any
father was. Loving, kind,
thoughtful. I never told you the whole
story about what happened.”
“What did
happen?” Kaioshin asked with curiosity.
“They went
out for a New Year’s Eve party…they had a little too much beer and refused a
ride home. My dad drove…and wrapped the
car around a tree. He was lucky to have
survived. Ever since then he blamed
himself for my mother’s death and the only way he saw to get away from the pain
and misery was to go down the bar and have a few drinks. And it just got worse.”
“I see…”
Kaioshin said.
“He tried
to go for help at first, but it didn’t work and now he refuses to do anything.”
Kaioshin
thought for a moment on what to do.
“Mia,” he said. “I can think of
one thing to do that would end this for good.”
“What? Please tell me…he isn’t a bad person.”
“I know
he’s not. That’s why I’m willing to do
this. It’s wrong to use the dragon
balls to change a person, but I’ll do it for you.”
“What are
dragon balls?” Mia asked.
“Seven
magical balls that will make any wish come true when brought together. I’d have to search the entire planet for
them before this can happen.”
“Is that
too much to ask? Please?” Mia looked at
her father.
“No,”
Kaioshin said. He leaned over and
kissed her cheek. “I’ll be back in a
little while.”
It wasn’t
more than an hour when Kaioshin returned.
In his arms he held the seven small, orange balls. “Those are them?” Mia asked looking at the
balls in his arms.
“Yes.”
Kaioshin leaned down and put his hand on her father’s arm. “Hold onto my arm, Mia.” She did so and he
teleported them to the hill that he and Mia had gone to earlier that week. He placed the dragon balls on the ground and
stood over them. “Eternal dragon, rise
now and grant my wish.” The balls
glowed and a powerful force jumped up and took the form of an enormous green
dragon.
“Oh my
God…” Mia said looking up.
“Dragon,”
Kaioshin said. “I’d like you to restore
this man to the way he was before he lost his wife.”
“As you
wish.” The great beast’s eyes glowed red.
“Your wish has been granted.
Fare thee well.” His body glowed and he disappeared into the balls,
which they themselves rose into the air and parted quickly in all different
directions.
“Holy cow…”
Mia said still in shock. Then she
realized what was supposed to happen.
“Daddy?” She dropped to her knees in front of her father.
“What
happened to me? I feel…better…” He
stood up and looked at the other two people in front of him. “Mia?
What’s going on here?”
“It
worked…” Mia said. She looked over to
Kaioshin. “It worked Kaioshin! I can tell it did!!” She threw her arms around him and gave him a
big kiss.
“You’re
welcome,” Kaioshin said laughing after she thanked him a million times.
“Who are
you?” Mr. Karr asked.
“We have to
talk, Dad,” Mia said with a smile.
“I think
so. What’s with the purple elf?”
“I’m
pleased to finally meet you Mr. Karr,” Kaioshin said.
Kaioshin
treated Mia and her father to dinner that night. They talked things out and everything was made straight. Mia’s father couldn’t believe what he had
been doing all of this time.
“I guess that
stuff like that can really mess a person up, huh?” He said when the stories
were over.
“I’m just
glad that I found Kaioshin and he was able to help you. I really missed you dad,” Mia said with a
smile.
Kaioshin
smiled at her and put his hand on hers.
“And I’m glad that I found you,” he said.
Mr. Karr
was happy for his daughter that she had found someone that cared for her so
much. Later, Mia would go to college
and get the education she had wanted.
Her father went back to work full time and was able to buy a nicer
apartment. He vowed never to get
himself wasted like he had done, afraid that he’d turn back into the person he
used to be.
