Brotherly Advice

A week had passed since Eddie and his friends learned their lesson; don’t mess with Tyra. It was a Sunday afternoon and Tyra sat under a tree in her backyard. She looked up at the sky and various thoughts ran through her mind. Then a shadow loomed over her.
“May I join you?” Seru asked.
“Sure,” Tyra responded.
Seru sat next to her and looked up at the sky. “So what’s up?”
Tyra didn’t answer at first. “Nothing much,” she finally said.
Seru nodded. “I can tell something’s on your mind. What is it?”
Tyra brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. “Do you think…oh, never mind.”
“What? Don’t be afraid to tell me. Do I think what?”
Tyra hesitated, and then said, “Dad is protective of us right?”
“I’ll say; you and Mom especially. Why?”
“Well, I’m afraid he would let me do some things that normal teenagers do.”
“Like…”
“Go to parties, you know, stuff like that.” She looked at her brother with the same pink eyes he had. “Seru, you did some things, right? Did Dad make a big deal out of it?”
“Tyra, you have to understand something. There’s a difference between you and me in Dad’s eyes. To Dad, I’m the oldest, a boy, and I’m supposed to take care of myself. However, you’re the youngest, and his only little girl. All fathers baby or spoil their daughters, therefore they’re more protective.”
“I know that I have Daddy wrapped around all ten of my fingers…”
Seru laughed and agreed with her.
“But I don’t want him to hover over me every second. And then there’s the other people…that would be scared of him.”
“Somebody asked you out, huh?” Seru looked at her confused expression.
“How’d you guess?”
“The questions you asked me gave me a hunch. You’re scared Dad won’t approve, right?”
“Right. I think he’d have a fit.”
“I think that if you let it be known to him slowly maybe he won’t mind. I also advise you to talk to Mom…she can restrain Dad when he finds out.” They both laughed and sat in silence for a moment.
“Seru, I’m glad I have you to talk to.”
Seru smiled. He had a very similar smile that his father has. “Don’t worry about it. Besides, I’ve had girlfriends before, so maybe he won’t mind like you think he would.”
“You actually had a girlfriend at some point?” Asked a voice.
Seru didn’t even have to look up to know who it was. “Come down you snoop.”
Mikau hung upside-down from a tree limb in front of his siblings. “You didn’t answer my question. What crazy girl would go out with you?”
“I wouldn’t talk if I were you. Have you ever had a girlfriend?” Seru reached up and pulled Mikau to the ground.
“No, but who needs ‘em?” He said as he sat up.
“Don’t even start, you two. I don’t really want to hear another argument. Once a day is enough,” Tyra said with a small smile.
“Whatever. You humans are just plain weird,” Mikau said and stood up.
Tyra stood up next to him. The top of her head reached up to Mikau’s shoulders, but when she stood up next to her father, the top of her head only went up to his stomach. “You know what? You never cease to amaze me,” she said and walked to the house.
