Author's Note: I don't own Slayers, and I don’t own 'Cry' by Mandy Moore. Warning: Extreme sweetness ahead, several cases of the 'mushy gushies' have been reported after reading this ficcie. Heck, all my Zel/Ame ficcies result in 'mushy gushies'.
Zelgadis sat by the water, examining his reflection. He had not, unfortunately, been cured while he was asleep, that much was evident. Same pebbles dotting his face and framing his eyes, same stupid, violet, wire hair. And same stony skin. Nope, no change overnight.
I'll always remember
It was late afternoon
It lasted forever
And ended to soon
He threw a rock at his reflection, sending ripples over it, and distorting it even more. When the water cleared however he saw Amelia in it. Startled he looked up. She plopped down next to him.
"So, what fascinates you so much that you've been out here all afternoon Mister Zelgadis?" she said sweetly, holding one knee to her chest.
You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark gray sky
And I was changed…
Zelgadis sighed.
"I was looking at the lake." He replied simply, turning away from her. Amelia nodded in pretend understanding then turned back to him, puzzled.
"Why?" she asked sincerely. "I admit it is beautiful, but you haven't come back for dinner or anything, just because you were looking at the lake?" Zelgadis glared at the water again.
"I don't expect you to understand Amelia."
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside
It was then that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
"Tell me." She said, taking his hand in her smaller one. A slight blush trailed along Zelgadis' cheeks, and he shuddered at her touch.
"I was just looking at myself." He muttered. "Wait, that didn't come out right…" he said, looking up quickly. Amelia's face broke into one of her famous smiles.
"No, I understand." Zelgadis snorted slightly.
"I'm sure you do." He said sarcastically. Amelia looked hurt.
The moment I saw you cry
"I'm sorry you feel I don’t Mister Zelgadis." She said quietly. For a fleeting moment, tears welled up in her eyes. But Amelia was so used to Zelgadis' cold remarks that she blinked them away.
"Listen Amelia, what I meant was that, you couldn't possibly understand because you're perfect." He said calmly, but blushing. Amelia blushed too.
"I think I know why you like it out here so much Mister Zelgadis." She whispered. "It frees your mind doesn't it?"
It was late September
And I'd seen you before
You were always the cold one
But I was never that sure
Zelgadis smiled.
"Yes, I guess it does." Amelia entwined her fingers with his hand that lay on her palm.
"Did you really mean what you said? That I was perfect?" she asked him.
"Of course." He replied.
"Cause I'm not." She said bluntly. Zelgadis looked into her eyes, concentrating on the deep pools of blue.
"What are you talking about? What mistake could you have possibly made?"
"I didn't tell you how…how absolutely beautiful your eyes are." Amelia stuttered. Zelgadis laughed.
"That's your mistake Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune? See, you are perfect."
"No I'm not…" Amelia said, pouting slightly.
"Yes you are." He teased, making her blush even more.
You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark gray sky
I was changed
She frowned in defeat and shrugged.
"Mister Zelgadis, how can you call someone perfect just judging by outward appearances?" she asked quietly. Zelgadis' smile faded slightly.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you think that just because I'm a princess, I automatically can do no wrong?" she said again, looking at him, imploring for an answer.
"Well I-" Zelgadis stuttered back.
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside
"I'll take that as a yes…" Amelia sighed, her shoulders sagging.
"No Amelia! That isn't a bad thing! That just means I can-I can trust you!" Zelgadis said quickly. Amelia looked at him.
"So you're saying I'm predictable?" she said, a confused, but angry, look in her eyes. Zelgadis remained silent.
It was then that I realized
That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry
"I see…" Amelia said, taking his silence as his answer. She gnawed on her bottom lip in thought. Her eyes drifted out on the lake for a while then she turned and looked at him. She leaned forward nervously, and her lips connected with his. Out of instinct, he kissed her back, but not that he wasn't thoroughly surprised.
I wanted to hold you
I wanted to make it go away
I wanted to know you
I wanted to make your everything, all right
"How's that for predictable?" she asked him when they parted.
"That was actually unexpected." He answered, slightly dazed.
"Good." She said, nodding her head.
I'll always remember...
It was late afternoon
Both of them returned to looking at the lake. Zelgadis looked up at the sky.
"I think it's going to rain." He said, matter-of-factly.
"So?" Amelia asked playfully.
"So, shouldn't we go back?" he asked, raising a rocky eyebrow.
"Mister Zelgadis, what did I just explain to you? Did you understand, or do I have to explain it again?" she asked, slightly annoyed.
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside
It was then that I realized That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry
"No, I understood perfectly." He said, and leaned in to kiss her again. Her eyes widened from the shock, but she relaxed as Zelgadis brought his hands up to her face.
In places no one would find
All your feelings so deep inside
It was then that I realized That forever was in your eyes
The moment I saw you cry
"Are we gonna have to hose you two down? Or will the rain do it for us?" Lina's taunting voice said, laughing. Zelgadis broke away from Amelia quickly and began blushing, while Amelia followed suit.
"Nothing happened." They replied simultaneously.
"I'm sure. And Zelgadis there was giving you Artificial Respiration. Please. Come on." Lina said, winking. Zelgadis scowled as he heard her humming 'I'm getting married in the morning' under her breath.
The moment I saw you cry
"We're never gonna hear the end of this." Zelgadis muttered.
"Maybe that isn’t such a bad thing." Amelia whispered. Zelgadis looked over at her and shook his head.
"Okay, you are the most unpredictable person I have ever met." Zelgadis stated, and led her back to camp.
