*---*---*---*---*

Out of all his Hikaris, he loves this one the most.

Not because the boy is exceptionally pretty, which he is, and not because the boy is exceptionally strong, which he isn’t.

He loves Satoshi the most, because Satoshi-sama is exceptionally beautiful while breaking.

The boy is always, *always* in a state of breaking. The pale blue ice crystal of the soul he holds in his hands, that he could crush if he so willed it, is streaked with inner fractures, deep blue streaks in what should be a pure color.

And each time the boy feels, a new fracture forms.

And each time the boy forgets those feelings, a pure white light runs along those particular fractures to seal them away, leaving streaks of white in the blue crystal.

His other Hikaris had never broken until their final moments, and at that point the breakdown had always been ugly. A star burst of dark lines in the very center of the crystals, radiating outwards, cracking and rending until the structure was incohesive to the point the crystal just exploded, sending a hail storm of tiny shards in every direction.

His other Hikaris were foolish, to keep their souls ‘pure’ so as to not let him out. For in doing so, the slightest slip permanently destroyed their souls, as all those reigned in emotions spilled over at once in an excessive surge, killing their soul in a short burst of power.

He loves this one the most, because he can *allow* himself that freedom. For by having an imperfect soul, his Satoshi-sama will live even when the boy’s body dies, the shock of death not being great enough to shatter his tempered soul.

When that time comes, he will finally have a companion in this damned realm of nothingness. For when that time comes, he will wrap his Satoshi-sama’s soul in his own light, anchoring it forever to this plane.

He loves his Satoshi-sama not because he is strong, or pretty. He loves his Satoshi-sama for being imperfect.

For that imperfection will be his salvation.
