Keroberus/Kerberus better known as Kero, is the guardian of The Clow book and is Sakura's guide. His symbol is the sun, and his attribute is fire. In the Japanese series, he speaks with an Osakan dialect (Osaka-ben) because The Clow was in Osaka for a while. (His trademark saying is "Konyanichiwa!!", which is Osaka-ben for the Japanese greeting for "good afternoon.")
When we first meet him, he is in his Earth form, so he is small and cute and looks like a little stuffed teddy bear. He has cute little wings and a fuzzy tail like a little lion.
Kero cares for Sakura immensely and would even give his life for her.
In his true form he is Kerberos the legendary guardian of the Clow Book. He can become his true form only with the powers of the four elemental cards; earth, air, fire and water. He needs the power of the Firey and the Earthy, as not only are they two of the most powerful cards, but they are ruled by the Sun, so they give Kero his powers.
He is the Beast Of The Seal (Fuuin no Kemono). He was created centuries ago by Clow Reed to guard the seal of The Clow, the book that holds the 52 magic Clow Cards. Hence, Kero usually resides on the cover, where he appears in his true form.
Kerberos is a very powerful creature, with extensive knowledge about the Clow Cards and magical powers derived from the Sun.
We learn that because Kero had a nap (for 30 years), Sakura was able to accidentally break the seal of The Clow, allowing all the cards to escape. Unfortunately for Kero, as long as the Firey and Earthy cards are scattered, he lacks his full magic powers and can't return to his true form at will.
In spite of this, Kero still has some of his powers and can easily sense the presence of Clow Cards and of anyone who possesses magic powers. He is also surprisingly strong for his size: he can pick up Sakura using only his mighty set of teeth.
Kero has great confidence in Sakura's ability to seal the Clow Cards (he immediately appoints her to be their new mistress), and his mission is to help her capture all of the Clow Cards.
He has been alive for many, many years (even though he slept through 30 of them) so he is very wise and can handle himself well in difficult situations. He is also very knowledgeable and can successfully guide Sakura through the trials of being a Card Captor, sometimes even serving as sort of parental figure to her.
Kero is extremely fond of sweets and other foods (especially pudding) in spite of his small size, Kero tends to consume large amounts of sweets with extreme joy ("pudding, yea, pudding!!!"). He is devastated whenever Sakura can't save him dessert, and usually ends up either getting very mad at her or in tears when that happens. However, like Yue, he doesn’t need to eat when he is in his true form, as he gets his power from the sun.
Besides food, Kero is extremely passionate about his favourite pastime: playing video games. The fact that Sakura's controllers are larger than him doesn't seem to deter him, and he can easily spend the whole day in her room playing with her video games. It's probably safe to say that to Kero there are probably few things as crushing as losing a saved game. His favourite video game is Zylon Warriors (I think that's it???)
Kero is very temperamental, so all of his emotions tend to be very strong whether he's happy, excited, angry, or sad. So he tends to be pretty loud in spite of his size. Because Kero is very self-confident, he won't sit still if personally attacked. Nevertheless, Kero is very friendly.
Although Kero spends most of his time in his small (and highly huggable) form, he always thinks of himself as the impressive (and supremely cool) Beast of the Seal. Hence, nothing hurts him more than being called a stuffed animal ("nuigurumi,") by Shaolan and Meilin. Shaolan often gets his fingers bitten for this. His nickname for Li Shaolan is little boy, or kid.
In spite of this, Kero is still very confident about himself in all regards, and he loves getting dressed up and filmed by Tomoyo/Madison (he's also never shy about telling you how cool he is).
Of course, all this can make Kero sound arrogant, but since he's about 5 inches tall most of the time, his high opinion of himself is quite adorable and used mostly as comedy. Besides, from his self-confidence (and his profound love of sweets) comes the opinionated, optimistic, energetic, loud, and happy little bundle of joy that is Kero.
