Tomoyo/ Madison is Sakura's best friend. She is very level-headed about most things, except when it comes to making costumes for Sakura or filming Sakura. She is a very kind and respectful person and tries to get along with everyone.
Her mother is a president of a corporation and very wealthy, so Tomoyo/Madison gets whatever she wants and has a lot of bodyguards (all female). She knows about Sakura's quest for Clow Cards and supplies Sakura with anything she needs (costumes, cell phones, etc.) She also tapes Sakura's adventures.
Tomoyo/Madison starts off as the only one who knows about Sakura's CardCaptor adventures, which happens by accident when Tomoyo/Madison witnesses Sakura in action upon finding the second Clow Card. Although Sakura worries about others knowing about her unusual identity out of embarrassment, Tomoyo/Madison doesn't find it odd at all and is very excited to learn of Sakura's magical powers.
She isn't very good at athletics like Sakura, but she would much rather watch and video-tape Sakura. However she has an incredible singing voice and often has solos in school concerts and is the best singer in the area (see the Song card and Voice card episodes).
Tomoyo/Madison is also very good at clothing design and sewing. She is the one responsible for all of Sakura's crazy costumes. Tomoyo/Madison came up with the idea to provide these costumes on her own and Sakura is less than happy to wear goofy costumes everywhere! Despite their often unusual looks, Tomoyo/Madison obviously puts extensive dedication into each one of the detailed outfits she creates. Usually they have a cute theme that is somehow relevant to the card that Sakura is trying to catch. Each elaborate costume is designed with love and care, just for Sakura. "I am pleased when I see you wear my creations, Sakura," she says, "you are so pretty and perfect!"
She and Kero work well together and often work together to persuade Sakura to do things she doesn't really want to do. She also makes him little costumes to match Sakura's.
Although she has no magic powers she can sometimes sense Clow Cards or just guess.
Tomoyo/Madison lives in a huge mansion with an equally beautifully large yard. She lives with her mother Sonomi/Samantha. Every room in her home is very spacious, including her lovely bedroom, with a video room next door, where she watches the videos of Sakura. Tomoyo/Madison doesn't brag or even mention the wealth of her family. When Sakura first visits, she is in shock over Tomoyo/Madison's amazing house, which she obviously did not expect at all.
Early in the series, she also seems to have a crush on Touya/Tori, but as the story progresses, it becomes less and less evident. She has a crush on Sakura but lets this go and persuades Li Shaolan to ask her out. Tomoyo/Madison really just wants what's best for Sakura and what makes her happy.
Aside from her standard school uniform, Tomoyo/Madison mostly wears simple long dresses, which look very flattering on her. The dresses seem to tell us that she is a classy individual, probably from an equally elegant home (which is true!). On special occasions Tomoyo/Madison can be seen wearing a traditional kimono or yukata (a lighter type of kimono for spring) which are absolutely adorable on her. Tomoyo/Madison's hair is often worn down with a thick headband holding the strands out of her face. Occasionally though, Tomoyo/Madison does wear her hair in braids, a ponytail, or another pretty style.
The most treasured item owned by Tomoyo/Madison is what appears to be an ordinary pink eraser. To Tomoyo/Madison however, this eraser is the symbol of something amazing - the start of her friendship with Sakura. It was Tomoyo/Madison's first day in school. She was sitting at her desk, searching frantically for an eraser in her bag, but unfortunately, she didn't seem to have one. A girl sitting beside her noticed this and turned to her and said with a smile: How can it be that a neighbour of mine is left without an eraser?" and handed her a cute little pink, bunny-shaped eraser. "Here, keep it. My name is Sakura." and they became friends. Tomoyo/Madison stores the eraser all wrapped up in a small wooden box which is locked with a key - where Tomoyo/Madison’s mother also stores Nadeshiko’s wedding bouquet.
And of course Tomoyo/Madison also treasures her video camera, which she carries along with her absolutely everywhere - including some extra batteries! The star of almost every video Tomoyo shoots is Sakura, from running races to capturing a Clow Card. Tomoyo/Madison is always disappointed when she forgets her video camera and something note-worthy happens. It's hard to imagine how many tapes she owns of Sakura walking around and stuff. When they go out in large groups, Tomoyo/Madison doesn't seem to participate much as she tapes Sakura, saying, "Oh, I don't mind, I am happy just to videotape Sakura”. After a long day of taping Sakura with her miscellaneous tasks, Tomoyo/Madison goes home and watches the tapes in her own personal entertainment room, equipped with a huge screen. "Nobody's cuter then Sakura!" However, with all the taping of Sakura’s card captures, her video camera is not always entirely safe. Tomoya/Madison often puts herself in rather dangerous situations in order to videotape Sakura and has got her video camera broken. However, her mother is more than happy to buy her daughter the latest model to replace her old one.
