The Awakening-Dianes'story
The AwakeningChapter 2
tears mixed with blood, rain, and mako...
"Massive case of mako poisoning...."
"Might lose this one...."
"Get that oxygen feed hooked up...."
"Her heart's stopped- get the crash cart in here!"
Diane awoke with a start, the doctors voices still echoing inside her head. Weeks after the
accident she could still hear them, remembering what it was like to lay there helplessly as the doctors purged the mako from her system.
Feeling shakey, she tried to go back to sleep, tossing and turning for more than an hour before
finally giving up. She got out of bed, glancing at her alarm clock, it was only 3:30, they weren't scheduled to head out until 5:00.
Diane sighed and began to get dressed.
"Where's the new fish?" Elena said, crossing her arms looking irritated.
Elena looked at her watch, it read 4:55, she tapped her foot impatiently. That new turk was
gonna be late, then they would be behind schedule.'Just my luck,'Elena thought,'The newbie acts just like Reno and Rude.'
'She's about to start lecturing, again,' Reno watched as Elena began tapping her foot.
He hoped the new girl would get here soon, Elena was already pissed that they hadn't left earlier.
'Here it comes,'he braced himself as Elena began to open her mouth
Dianes' arrival.
"Sorry to keep everyone waiting,"Diane grinned shamelessly, as she pulled back her dust
coated goggles,"Popaco needed to be reshoed for mountianous terrain.
Popaco, the golden chocobo, fluffed out his feathers at the attention he was getting. Granted,
he was more accustomed to the rabid adoration of thousands of fans, but, hey an audience is an audience.
The other Turks didn't waste too much time gawking, and got into the land rover. Diane let
them get a head start before spurring Popoco forward.
Diane loved riding her Chocobo, not only was Popoco the fastest chocobo around, but he
could also outrun the high powered mako car. The scenery blurred by, as they raced through the countryside.
Time seemed to flow faster as she rode on, through the chocobo fields near Kalm, dashing
through the swamps playing tag with the Midgar Zolom, hopping over the deep chasms in the mountian pass, always close enough to hear the rumble of the mako car, but never close enough to
see the others. Twilight found her in Junon Harbor, having dinner in the quaint town under the city,
and the sun rose to find her waiting at the docks, with the other Turks.
Riding on the boat was much less pleasant, Popoco had horrible motion sickness, and Diane
spent the entire trip with him in the cargo bay of the boat.
Arriving at Costa de Sol, the Turks headed straight for the Town of Neibleheim. Speeding
through the countryside once more, Diane and Popoco avoided the Touch-Me frogs, and Stoned Lizards, that infested the area, leaving them behind, in a trail of dust. Once again, time moved
differently, hours passing in a haze of dense forests, and painted canyons. Neibleheim suddenly
loomed in front of her, Diane reined in Popoco, and waited for the others at the gates.
"When in Neiblehiem be sure to visit the beautiful Neibleheim mountians!"
Diane snorted with derision, at Rude's jokes. The tall man was nervous about something,
in the hours since the had entered the range, he had drawn his gun at least 7 times. Diane felt uneasy as well, a strange feeling was growing in the pit of her stomach, she wrote it off as bad vibes. It was
her first mission, and the other Turks' nervousness was affecting her.
"Yes, you too can suffer the horrible torture of freeze bite! Be the life of the party, your
friends will shriek with delight as your purple toes crumble into dust, right before their eyes!"
'All this time in the cold must be messing with his brain' Diane thought. She turned to
check on the other two Turks.
Elenas' face was bright red, and her nose was runny.
She had her gun out and ready, a look
of stubborn determination set into her features. Reno, however, was strolling along as if he hadn't a care in the world. His wind chapped face reminded her of Rudes' imaginary tourists, and she had to
supress a giggle.
They traveled further along the narrow path, deeper into the heart of the twisted mountains.
The trail they followed suddenly split into four parts, each twisting out of the others way.
Elena and Rude both looked to Reno, and each took a seperate path. Reno headed down
another, and motioned for Diane to take the fourth.
As she headed down 'her' trail the uneasy feeling from before grew. This path wriggled
along in a treacherous manner, with loose gravel and sharp stones, that caused her to fall more than once. Picking herself up from one such fall, Diane heard the loud snap of a twig.
Wheeling around, she pointed her gun in the direction of the noise,"Who's there?," She
yelled, her shrill voice echoing through the area.
'tears, blood,mako'
The voice reverbated through her mind like one of her nightmares,"Stop it!"
'the tears and the blood of my people, your people!, mixed with the blood of the planet,
mako'
"Get out of my head!" Diane was suddenly overwhelmed with images, places she had never
seen, people she had never met, large feline eyes blinked serenely at her. Suddenly the scene changed, the clamor of war filled her mind, catlike warriors met a tide of invaders, razor sharp claws and pointed fangs aimed to kill. Still they fell, their blood flowing in a stinking river of death.
Bright green mako energy, flowed from natural springs, mingling with the blood, making it glow
in a most unholy manner, the vivid light reflecting into the inhuman face of their conquerers. "Too
much," Diane screamed and passed out.
As she fell to the ground, the voice whispered in her ear,'your time has come, awaken'.
Diane awoke to find herself riding back to Midgar in the landrover, she was still shaken
about what had happened. Picking up her head she saw Elena hovering worridly over her, questions that Diane had no answers for visible in her eyes.
"Wh-what happened?," Diane decided she should play dumb. Saying she was hearing voices
was liable to land her in a nice safe office job.
"We heard you screaming and found you passed out in the mountains," Reno was the one who
answered her, talking over his shoulder from the cockpit of the car,"What happened?"
"I-I ran into a dragon," Diane stammered,"A really big one with sharp pointy teeth!," she put
her fingers out in front of her face in imitatation of a dragon,"It was big, and red!, Big red! It was attacking a wing of sonic speeds, and knocked me out with it's tail!"
Elena mumbled something that sounded like 'delirious', Rude just grunted and handed Diane a flask.
Diane arrived at the door to her room, her ears still ringing from being chewed out.
President Rufus had been away on buissiness, so Heidigger had conducted the interview, the old windbag had bitched them out from the slums to the upper plates, and still had insults to hurl at them.
The drugs she had taken for her head made her feel blurry, Heidigger had made some noise about her
being mentally defficient.
She fell into bed, ignoring the paper work that was clogging her in-tray. She stared
at the ceiling for an etertity before drifting off to sleep.
"Diane Mizuno."
"Who's there?"
"Diane."
"This is creeping me out."
In her dream she stood in a dark void. Where was she? She looked around,as she moved, she
felt something on her back. Diane looked behind her and gasped. Large silvery wings sprouted from her back, feathers rustling gracefully in the gently blowing breeze,'Am I dead?'
Diane looked down at her self, her filthy suit was gone, a flowing jade dress in it's place.
The bruises and scrapes she had acquired in the mountians were gone, a soft golden glow emenated from her skin, illuminating her features and making her seem ageless.
"Ancient, born in the collision of Holy and Meteor."
"What? Who's there? Holy? Meteor? I demand an answer!"
"An answer you shall recieve."
It appeared before Diane as a small long tailed cat, its' fur was the lightest of blues with
dark grey stripes across its' back. Diane felt bewildered as it turned a few lazy backflips in the air.
"Oooh, I'm tripping, those must be some wicked painkillers, I am so tripping!" She whined.
"Your not falling, your standing perficly still, child." the voice spoke again, but this time it
seemed to radiate from the floating cat. It spun around in the air, stopping a few inches away from her nose, before speaking again,"I am Junia of the Star Kingdom."
"Huh?"
"I have come to you in a dream, Diane Mizuno, Ancient, to awaken you."
"Awaken? What is going on?" Dianes' wings fluttered in agitation,"You haven't answered any
of my questions, you, you, talking cat!"
The feline blinked its' large round eyes at her,"This is not my true form, I have been
impressed into the body of an animal known as Mew. As a curse of the utmost evil."
"You know, what you just said, made no sense."
"An answer...."
5 humanoid cats stepped into a large space pod,Diane recognized them from her earlier vision.
The 5 were battleworn and bloody. They seemed to be in a great hurry, as they rushed around the cockpit, preparing to launch. The battle raged on over the countryside, as the pod rose into the
dreary sky, the defenders of the planet cheered as the craft flew out of sight. As they zoomed through
space, the planet below them exploded.
"What does this have to do with me?" Diane asked.
"Simply a glimpse of my past, and the begining of your future," Diane watched the space ship
break into 5 pieces, and dissapear. "The other Star Cats and I split up, and went into different dimensions to search for champions to defend the universe. I chose yours, the Realm of The Final
Fantasy."
"Final Fantasy," Diane repeated, then she saw an angry orange globe of light, threatening to
engulf Midgar, battling it was a lonely spot of green, tiny in comparison to it's destructive counterpart. Waves of rainbow coloured energy flew across the land towards it, and Diane could sense a
presence in the energy, as if it were an entity in itself.
As the rainbow energy converged on Midgar, the green globe became stronger, changing it's
colour to an eyeblinding white as it became more powerful. The energy swirled with colours and shapes, Diane thought she could see faces in the iredescent patterns.
The forces above Midgar stayed locked together in the sky, and gradually white began to
engulf orange, eating away until nothing but itself remained. The explosion that followed was soundless, showering the entire world with bright green sparks.
As the energy dissapated a small baby floated softly to the ground. Before the child
could touch the pavement, Junia appeared to catch her. This Junia was looked older than she had in previous visions, her short blue hair was streaked with silver threads, her cat ears and tail twitching
with nervousness.
"I name thee Diane, for my mother, the fair queen of Starica," The green lights flickered in
approval, "You shall be sent to the past to live your life as a normal child. I will come and awaken you at the time when your body has matured to match your power."
The infant in Junias' arms watched her knowingly, the look of an old soul set deep in her eyes.
The lights sparkled a warning and the Starcat looked sharply around. The broken streets of Midgar seemed quiet,"I shall awaken thee when it is time, sleep ancient, sleep in the past." with a blinding
flash they were gone.
Diane felt strange, deep down had she known this all along? Feeble memories circulated in her
mind, memories of a great evil.
"There are others to aid thee in thy mission, beings of other dimensions, some bizarre as thine
own, are awakening as well. Kazi of Johto, Ichiban of the Planet Vegeta, Ami of the Digidestend, and Vash of the Planet Jupiter. You, Diane of the Turks, will be their leader. You will now know your
true power!"
Junia made a small gesture with her paw, and Dianes' clothing changed. The long jade dress
changed subtly, the skirt became shorter to allow greater range of movement, while the top changed to a breezy white sailors' blouse. "Sailor Supernova. Blessed with the power of the wood, able to
converse with the planet as an Ancient. You are one with the life stream, and can call upon the magic
of Holy at times of great peril."
Diane, looked down at herself. She could feel the power of her element, and the greater power
of her planet flowing throughout her. The voice of the planet was ringing in her ears, telling her of horrible trouble in the near future. Thousands of questions filled her mind, but Junia raised a paw to
silence her.
"Soon, everything shall be made evident to thee. For now, you mustn't tell anyone about your
powers. I feel that bad things shall come to pass, the planet feels it as well. It might even be best for you to forget what I have revealed to you till the others are awake."
"Why would I need to forget, I can keep a secret."
Junias' mouth curled up into a cat smile,"You can call upon Holy, and by doing so to soon, you
would prevent your own birth."
Diane was taken aback at this, and Junia continued ,"Aside dearest, your planets' guardian has
yet to fall." She began to fade away, "Farewell child, you will see me sooner than you think."
"Wait!" Diane awoke in her dorm, cold sweat dripping down the side of her face. She looked
around, what a bizarre dream! Talking cats, and radioactive sailor suits, whatever Rude kept in that little bottle of his should be a controlled substance! Diane hopped out of her bunk to get a drink of
water.
As she crossed the floor, her feet encountered something strange that slithered around her
ankles in a most peculiar fashion, groggily Diane reaced out and flipped on her desk light, and liked to swallowed her toungue! Her dormitories' floor was carpeted in jade green feathers, taking one long
good look Diane did the only ratoinal thing she could think of. She flipped off the light and went back
to sleep.
