Alamo Ambush

Were Garurumon sat cross-legged on the ground under the night sky. However, something seemed to disturb him. He slowly got up and pulled out six totems out of a pouch, all six of them were glowing. "This can't be right. They aren't ready for the totems," Were Garurumon said aloud. "I understand that they can handle the trials when they're showing signs that they can handle the power given to them, but all 6 already?"

Were Garurumon just shook his head, knowing what he must do. However, he questioned doing that right now. He stood up and put the totems back in the pouch where he got them from. The werewolf digimon then stood up and walked toward an abandoned fort. This fort looked like it could cover several city blocks. Even though it was bigger than it should be, the fort looks familiar to any Texan when looking at it from the front. The fort was the Alamo when it was at its full size.

"This is the best place for them to take their trials. However, they each have to overcome their own trial," Were Garurumon muttered, as he walked into the Alamo. While he stood in the middle of the fort, he looked around, trying to find the best places to put them.

Then, he walked to 6 separate rooms of the fort, placing one of the totems somewhere in each of them. He then left the last room and went back to the front entrance. He couldn't help but think that there was something wrong, that it was too soon for this to happen. However, it couldn't be helped. If spirits beyond his control thought it was time, then it was time.

Were Garurumon left the fort with an uneasy feeling like something was going to go wrong. That feeling became even worse as he felt several presences in the area. Were Garurumon ran into a wooded area quickly and hid, watching to see what was coming. His eyes widened when he saw Pail Dramon land just outside the fort. It wasn't long before Aquilamon landed there as well, then Golemon and Starmon appeared.

"This looks like a good place to spend the night," Pail Dramon said. "We'll think about how to get revenge on those kids later."

Revenge? For what? Were Garurumon asked himself.

"Dammit, Revolmon. Why'd you have to be so cocky as to take them on yourself?" Starmon complained.

Revolmon? I was wondering where he's been lately, Were Garurumon thought. Did they actually defeat Revolmon?

"Don't worry, Starmon. We'll avenge him," Aquilamon said. "No one messes with us and lives."

Golemon just chuckled. "Yeah, we can always find a portal to them and send a few of our men to them."

Starmon sighed. He knew it would make him feel better if Revolmon was avenged, but he still had nagging doubts.

A man that appeared to be in his fifties sat at the teacher's desk as his students continued to work on their writing assignments. He didn't mind teaching a Creative Writing course, but he wondered if his students even paid attention, especially since several of them looked up at the clock every so often.

The man appeared to be of Native American descent. He had long gray hair that was braided in the back. He wore just a white shirt and black slacks which he wore just to appease the school's dress code for teachers. None of this he minded much.

He looked up at his students again, but something else seemed to worry him. All the children appeared to be normal, but he could see something different in two of his students. Ever since he was a child, he could always somehow see things on a spiritual plane. This was mainly due to the shaman training he had undergone as a kid. He looked suspiciously at Richard and Dwayne, who were sitting next to each other in the class. Richard continued his work, while Dwayne looked up at the clock, then went back to work as soon as he noticed the teacher was looking right at him. Both Dwayne and Richard appeared to have a higher level of spirit than the other students did. He couldn't figure out why, though. Both of them just appeared to be normal kids.

The bell to end class rang. The students immediately got up, other than Richard and Dwayne who were slow to do so. "Sit down," the teacher said. The students sat down as both Richard and Dwayne looked up at the teacher. "You do not leave until I tell you to, you got that. Now, your assignments are due Monday. I will not accept any late papers." The teacher then paused to see if the students got what he said. "You may leave. Dwayne, Richard, I would like to see you before you leave."

Dwayne got a panicky look on his face, as if he was worried that he did something wrong. Richard was worried, but he just shook his head. He knew he didn't do anything wrong. The two boys picked up their book bags and walked up to the front of the classroom and in front of the teacher's desk.

"I swear. I didn't do anything, Mr....uh..." Dwayne began, forgetting the teacher's name.

"Just call me Kiowa, and no, you two didn't do anything wrong. I just want to ask you two something," Kiowa replied. "I just happen to notice something from you two. Are you two involved in any...odd activities?"

"Odd activities?" Dwayne asked.

Richard just smirked. Odd didn't begin to describe what they've been through, but they've gotten used to it by now. "Nothing beyond the normal games and such, unless you consider basketball and card games odd."

Kiowa chuckled a bit at Richard's response. "I don't mean that. I mean anything like magic, and, no, I don't mean the card game." Kiowa didn't know much about the game, but he has seen Richard and a few others play it before class.

Dwayne was still a bit worried. Their secret was very close to being blown. Richard was wondering how he kept getting so close to their secret. "That's crazy talk. There's no way we'd be taking part in anything like that."

Kiowa just smiled. They were hiding something, but it was no different than him hiding his shaman abilities from others.

"Hey, guys! You're going to miss the bus!" Rita called out from the classroom door. Then, she noted who the guys were talking to, getting a surprised expression on her face. "Hi, Kiowa! When did you start teaching here?"

"They just decided to have me start teaching here this year. How've you been, Rita?" Kiowa asked, hiding the surprise he actually had. He wasn't surprised that he was meeting an old student, but at the fact that he saw Rita's spirit at the same level as Dwayne and Richard, something he never noticed a year ago.

"You know Kiowa?" Dwayne asked Rita.

"Yeah, he was my fifth grade teacher," Rita replied.

"You better catch your bus, then. I didn't mean to hold you back too long," Kiowa apologized.

"It's okay. See ya, Monday," Richard said before walking towards the door. Rita walked alongside him and Dwayne trailed behind.

Kiowa watched as the three walked towards the door. He wanted to respect their wishes to keep whatever they were hiding hidden, but he couldn't help but be curious. He reached for the tray hanging from the chalkboard and picked up an eraser. Then, he threw it at the trio leaving him.

Dwayne suddenly turned around and caught the eraser just before it hit him in the face. Richard and Rita turned around shortly afterwards, seeing what was going on. Dwayne just smirked as he tossed the eraser back to Kiowa. "What did I do to deserve that?" Dwayne asked.

"Nothing. Just a little test," Kiowa said. "Sorry about that."

Richard just shook his head. He turned around, and walked out, with the other two following shortly after. They thought it was strange with what Kiowa was doing. Kiowa just watched as they walked out. I don't even know adults that have that kind of reaction time, especially when they can't see what's about to hit them, and the scary thing is that Dwayne is young, he's going to improve. I've watched him play basketball and he's pulled off some advanced move, nothing a normal 12-year old can pull off. Sure, Richard can stop him, but he thinks through his moves, while Dwayne acts on pure instinct.

The trio sat in the back of the bus, Dwayne and Richard sat in one seat together while Rita sat in the solo seat on the other side of them. Richard looked around to make sure no one else would listen in on them. However, it seemed that the others were busy in their own conversations. He leaned towards the middle aisle and motioned for Rita to do the same. Dwayne saw this and got as close to listen as possible.

"This morning, I picked up a strange reading on the Digital Gate. I asked Koushiro about it and he said that it was something we'll need to check out," Richard said, trying to speak at a level that only those three can hear.

"What's the big deal?" Dwayne asked.

"Koushiro said the reading was similar to the evolution items some of the other Destined and Chosen have, but it seems as if they were tampered with or something. Something was different," Richard explained.

"Evolution items? Does that mean we'll be able to evolve our digimon further?" Rita asked.

"It's a possibility, but we don't even know if they really are evolution items. It could be something that could actually hurt us," Richard explained.

"So we would have to be careful when approaching these things," Dwayne said.

"Yes, Koushiro said he'll have Carter monitor us. If anything goes wrong, he'll send us help," Richard explained. "I've already sent an e-mail to the others explaining everything I've just told you with the coordinates. We'll be meeting there this afternoon. We'll have to deal with this as soon as possible."

Dwayne sighed as he walked in the front door of his house. Richard said he would go in ahead of time to check things out. Dwayne knew he couldn't stay here long. Rita probably wasn't going to stay at her place long either.

"I'm home, Mom," Dwayne called out.

"Hi, Dwayne," his mother greeted as she walked to the front entryway. However, she stopped when she saw the look on Dwayne's face. "Something wrong, Dwayne? Something happen at school?"

"No," Dwayne replied.

That would normally reassure most mothers, but Dwayne's mother knew better. If it wasn't school-related, it's related to the Digital World. "You have to go into that other world, don't you?"

Dwayne nodded. "Rich discovered something we need to investigate."

"I understand. Just be careful. This is your responsibility, something I respect."

"How do you stand knowing that I'm risking my life like this?" Dwayne asked.

"It's hard, but I manage. Plus, while you're at school, I've had quite a few talks with Gotsumon. Trust me, you have it a lot tougher. I may worry about you, but you have to face dangers that I didn't even know you could go through."

Dwayne nodded. "I better go, Rich is already in there by now."

Mrs. Wright nodded as Dwayne walked to his room. "You'll survive, Dwayne. You're stronger than you think."

"Rich! Rita!" Dwayne called out. He walked around a forested area, Gotsumon by his side.

"Were they attacked before we got here?" Gotsumon asked.

"I don't even want to think about that," Dwayne said.

"Why don't you try looking up here?" Richard asked, as Dwayne approached the edge of the forest. Dwayne looked up to see Richard standing on one of the lower branches of a tree.

"Rich? What are you doing?" Dwayne asked.

"Getting a better view of things. I swear, someone is gonna die if I find one skeleton with a raccoon-skin hat out there," Richard told him.

"What? What are you talking about?" Dwayne asked before taking a look out to where Richard was looking. The Alamo stood out in the open field. "Okay, talk about the biggest Texan cliché," Dwayne remarked.

Rita giggled as she heard this. She had been sitting at the base of the tree with Floramon listening to the conversation. "Well, if you two haven't noticed, the Alamo is much bigger than it should be. The Alamo we see today in San Antonio has a large portion of it missing because they took out most of the fort. The Alamo we see today was only the front entrance to a much larger fort."

"So, you mean what we're seeing is the Alamo as it was during the Texas Revolution?" Dwayne asked.

"That's exactly right," Richard replied. Then, he looked down at his D3, noticing some sort of reading on it. "Hey, guys. Take a look at your D3s," Richard said.

The other two grabbed their D3s and took a look at the screen. There were two blips on it, representing each of their friends, but there was a third blip coming from the direction of the fort. "What is that?" Rita asked.

"That's our power source. It's coming from somewhere within the Alamo," Richard explained. Then, he looked in the direction of the monitor everyone came out of so far, noticing no one was coming. "Hey, Dwayne. Think we should go ahead without the others. I really don't want Clint and the Gonzalez siblings to get involved."

"I understand. We'll go on ahead," Dwayne said. Richard jumped down out of the tree and landed on the ground, bending his knees to prevent from falling even more.

Rita looked at Richard curiously. She had to prevent Richard from going in on his own and made him wait for Dwayne earlier. Richard could have gone in and gotten himself killed if she hadn't done that.

"Meteor Squall!!" Just as they heard that, Richard and Rita looked skyward, seeing a barrage of meteors coming down on them. They ran as fast as they could, out of the damage area. Dwayne practically didn't move.

"Dwayne! What are you doing?!" Richard asked.

Just as the first meteor was about to strike Dwayne, he jumped to the right and landed just to the right of where the meteor impacted. He continued to duck and dodge through the meteors until the storm ended. When it did, Dwayne was still standing, panting and covered in dirt.

"What?!" Starmon asked in surprised. "How did you survived that?"

"It was hard, I'll give you that," Dwayne remarked.

"Ummm...Rita, when was Dwayne ever that quick?" Richard asked.

"Don't ask me," Rita replied. "I'm not the one always playing basketball with him."

"Thunderbolt!!" A lightning bolt struck down on Starmon, kicking up smoke and dust. The others hadn't noticed that Hagurumon and the others had evolved while they were watching Dwayne survive Starmon's attack.

When the dust cleared, Starmon was still standing though, chuckling. "That tickled," Starmon mocked.

"Then I guess you won't mind this, you bastard. Bullet Attack!!" Boarmon charged straight at Starmon, ramming into him.

"It looks like Jorge is here," Richard said, turning back towards the wooded area. Jorge and Victoria ran up to the trio.

"Go and get into the fort! I'll hold off Starmon," Boarmon told them.

"Let's go," Dwayne said. He broke into a mad dash for the fort, the others followed suit. However, something seemed to concern Dwayne. Something else was here.

"Look out!! Iceball Bomb!!" Icemon fired off several Ice balls in another direction. Golemon merely jumped  over the barrage. "What?!"

"Sonic Ear!!" Prairiemon flung her ears around, sending sonic waves at Golemon. The attacks sliced through Golemon's rock hard body at the arms.

"Go!!" Icemon yelled.

Dwayne merely nodded, but this time being careful of any other enemies that may be in the area. He knew if more than one of those guys were around, then all of them were around. His fears were confirmed when he saw Aquilamon diving for them.

"Silent Symphony!!" Harpymon let out a large gale straight at Aquilamon, but Aquilamon wasn't even slowing down, his dive had too much momentum, and he was about to ram Harpymon head on.

Unimon flew in as fast as he could and rammed straight into Aquilamon, stabbing the eagle with his horn. Aquilamon was knocked off course as he cried out in pain.

"Well, so much for not getting the younger three involved," Richard muttered.

"Face it, Richard. We're part of this, too," Clint said as he caught up to the group.

The six finally started to run for the Alamo, hoping to make it without anymore interruption. Unfortunately, they had one last obstacle to pass. Just before they reached the entrance, they stopped as they saw Pail Dramon landing between them and the entrance.

"Shit, we're screwed," Richard said, with the very intimidating form of Pail Dramon right in front of them, there was no way to pass him.

"I don't know what you want here, but I know this is the perfect time to exact revenge for you killing Revolmon," Pail Dramon told them, aiming his blasters down at the group.

"Not if I can help it." Were Garurumon had jumped towards the dragon digimon. "Wolf Claw!!" Were Garurumon slashed at Pail Dramon, the attack knocking Pail Dramon out of the way.

"Where did Were Garurumon come from?" Dwayne asked.

"I'll answer that later. Get inside, now!" Were Garurumon commended.

Richard just walked in, not wanting to argue with the Perfection-level digimon. Were Garurumon stared down Pail Dramon, preparing for more of a fight.

"What? Are you going to pull that little stunt you did last time we faced each other?" Pail Dramon asked.

"No, I don't need to. Look around, your men are out-numbered," Were Garurumon taunted.

Pail Dramon looked around the battlefield, seeing that Were Garurumon was right. His men were having problems fighting the other 6 Adults. "Everyone, retreat! We're out of here!"

Starmon crawled onto Golemon while Golemon jumped up, getting good distance on his jump. Aquilamon and Pail Dramon simply took flight and flew away from the battlefield

The 6 Adult digimon de-volved as Pail Dramon's men ran away. "Heh, that was easy," Hagurumon said.

"But why did we de-volve now, I'm not so tired," Tapirmon said, finding it odd that he wasn't able to keep Adult.

"Whatever happens, do not go into the fort with your friends," Were Garurumon told them.

"Why not?" Patamon asked, curious as to what was going on.

"What they are about to go through must be done on their own." Were Garurumon, then, took out a staff and started chanting something in a Native American language. The Child digimon there saw 6 different flashes from the Alamo.

Dwayne and the others got into the center of the fort and looked around. They couldn't seem to see anything that would resemble any sort of power source. All six of them took a look at their D3s to see if they couldn't locate it.

"Mine says it's straight back," Dwayne said.

"Mine says it's in one of those rooms in the back corner," Richard told everyone.

"This is strange, why is it telling us all different places?" Rita asked, starting to sound a bit concerned. However, no one had an answer.

Clint started to walk in the direction his D3 was pointing at. "I guess we'll have to go our separate ways," Clint said.

"Like hell I'm going to leave my sister alone," Jorge said.

"Jorge, I can take care of myself, okay. I'll be fine," Victoria said, starting to be annoyed that his brother was being protective.

"I'll have to agree with Clint. The only way we'll see what's going on is if we split up," Richard said. "Jorge, if anything happens to your sister, you can always blame me for it."

"Fine," Jorge said. He was a bit disappointed, but didn't exactly show it, as the group started to break up and walk in their separate directions.

In each place, the D3s led to, each of the Destined children found a strange totem in the room, engraved with a different animal. They went to touch the totems, but each time they did, the totems would flash, and they seemed to disappear...

To be continued...
