Hi Everyone, Most of you are aware of Sam's story. For those of you who are not, I will give you a brief update. Sam, an 8 year old Berner, recently came into our North Coast BMDCO rescue program. His family, an elderly couple with significant health issues, could no longer care for him. Reluctantly, and tearfully, they gave him up. Within days of being with his foster family, our lovable Sam bloated, torsed and ruptured his spleen. His remarkable spirit has been helping him through his long (and expensive) road to recovery. I am happy to report that Sam is doing well. We are hoping to find and place him in his forever home in the not too distant future. (Contact me if you are interested). Unfortunately, the entire North Coast BMDCO Rescue Fund has been depleted. To help offset some of Sam's expenses (almost $7000) and to help rebuild our rescue fund for other Berners in need, we are holding a very special "Pulling for Sam" fundraising raffle at the upcoming Specialty in Canfield. We will be raffling off a beautiful, wooden drafting Berner, see above, handcrafted by artist Richard Morrison. This wonderful piece of art (approximately 23 inches high and 33 inches long) is valued at $500. We will be selling raffle tickets at the show Thursday through Saturday (August 5-7). The grand drawing will be held on Saturday afternoon, August 7th, after Best of Breed. If you will not be able to get to the show to purchase tickets, but would still like a chance to win, please contact me as soon as possible. You can send your money to me and I will make sure your tickets are entered in the raffle. You can make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you if you should win...or we can have it shipped to you (unfortunately at your expense). Cost of tickets: 1 ticket for $5.00 3 tickets for $10.00 10 tickets for $25.00 Please help Sam pull through his terrible ordeal....and please help us pull through some needed dollars for our Rescue Fund! Results Well, I am very pleased to report that we had a very, very successful Specialty this weekend. In total, we had more that $2100 in raffle ticket sales. In addition to that, we received more than $2000 in direction donations to our rescue fund. And finally, our silent auction brought in more than $1100. That sounds like more than $5000 to help offset Sam's expenses!!!!! And now for the lucky winner of the wooden drafting Berner....congratulations to Sharon Bassett of Mentor, Ohio. Sharon, who volunteered her time to help us at the Specialty, was on hand to claim her lucky prize. On behalf of Sam and the North Coast BMD Club of Ohio, I want to thank all of you who contributed to this fundraising effort. Thanks also to those across the country who read about our "Pulling for Sam" raffle on Berner-l and supported our fund by sending me checks for raffle tickets....from Alaska to Maine :-) The generosity you have displayed is heartwarming...and greatly appreciated!
