We celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July, but there are other special dates that are associated with this day. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It was actually approved on July 2nd and after a draft written by Thomas Jefferson and proofed by John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, it was presented to the Congress two days later, on July 4th. It was finally signed by all of the delegates on August 2nd. Independence Day became a legal federal holiday in 1941. When people think of the 4th of July, they think of fireworks!
