Rescue Newfie, Reuel With thanks to Steve and Nikki Dwyer for these pics. First picture we saw of Reuel "My name is Nikki and I too have a rescued Newfie pup! We have also had 2 Berners through the last 13 years. Unfortunately we lost our first Berner (Hoss) at 150 pounds to bloat at a young age of 6. That was almost 8 years ago. Just this last March we lost Tatanka our 105 pound Berner to cancer. He would have had his 5th birthday in April. We decided at that time that we would just go with a mutt as we always have a mutt from a shelter and A pure breed Berner. It was very hard when we lost Tatanka and was very hard on our Newfie/lab mix that was only 6 months younger and best friends with him. When looking for another pup somehow God had us hook up with a man who goes to auctions to save Berners before they go to puppy mills. He had gotten to the auction on the wrong day and could not leave all the Newfs. there. He bought as many as he could. He is not well liked in the circle of auction people because he gives them hell. Thank God for him and others like him! Well we got our pup before he went to the puppy mill and he is a love. I am really not sure how old he was when we got him and know he is not of good stock. Not that that matters. I have taken him to puppy class and socialization and am working to get him to the point he can be brought with me to children hospitals and nursing homes as a therapy dog. My fixed newfie/lab mix female has taken on "mommy mode" and is very good with him. If I didn't know better you would think that our pup is the offspring of my late berner and my mix! We picked him up March 6, 2005 and was told he was "about" 7 or 8 weeks old. I think he may have been younger as he still had a faint blue to his eyes. Thanks again, Nikki Dwyer " First day home One week later One week with us First day home meeting the other two dogs Reuel with Tatanka 3 months ago Mothers day Graduation Day Reuel and Breanna today |
