Berner Cinderella

This is our precious "Cinderella".
She came into this world on June 14th, 2007. She was the fifth puppy
born. When she came out she wasn't breathing. We worked for an hour
and wouldn't give up on her. Finally she began breathing well on her
own. We were worried, because she couldn't eat. As the early morning
hours progressed, we kept her warm and were feeding her a milk
supplement that she would suckle off our finger. She was beautiful.
She couldn't suckle off her Mom, so we made an appointment with our
vet. When we arrived, he knew right away what was wrong. He said she
had a cleft pallet and would most likely starve to death. We had to
make a very difficult decision for her. It's human nature to do
whatever possible to keep a baby alive. But it's selfish. We could
of had a tube inserted in her to feed her, but the vet said that
even if we did that and she made it to an age where surgery was
availale there was no guarantee. So, sadly we had to make the
toughest decision a person can make. We laid her to rest at 12:15pm.
She was only 12 hours old. In that short time, she touched our lives
so much, that she will forever live in our hearts.
