Celebrating our Berner Veterans
In Loving Memory of Jasper December 15th 2002 to December 19th 2013 Proudly owned, so much loved and now so sadly missed by Viki Teague 
Jasper came to us as a rescue when he was 2. I picked him up at a pet groomer's shop in Northern Arkansas. We think he was turned over to this person because his owners were tired of dealing with his excessive slobbering. I did talk to his owner for a minute or two and asked for his registration. She never sent it nor did I ever hear from her again. He really was a remarkably laid back, gentle giant! We had added Jasper at age 2 to our household. We still had Bella, the BRAT. She never gave Jasper any sass, that we know of. I was not going to take another Bernese for a while but when I received the call about Jasper I jumped in the van and brought home. Not too long after he came to live with us Bella became incontinent both ways. I had no options but to let her go. Jasper had 2 days of being the only dog. I received a call about Abby, another sweetheart of a Bernese. Brought her home where she quickly made friends with Jasper but not without Jasper's speech aimed directly at her. Jasper was not a barker unless the doorbell rang, a habit he picked up from Bella. So the next day after they went outside I was surprised to hear Jasper really "talking". I went out on the porch and there sat timid Abby looking at Jasper in a confused manner. Jasper was sitting right in front of her and the only thing I could make of his "conversation" was that he was giving her a verbal rundown about how things were going to go if she wanted to live at his house. His conversation went on a few minutes longer while he sat looking intently at her. I knew what he was doing and why. He thought he was King of the Castle now that Bella was gone. He was just making the rules crystal clear to this new housemate. They never had a bit of trouble. |
