Celebrating our Berner Veterans
In Loving Memory of Joye BARC Brought Us Joye April 30th 2004 to July 13th 2015 Proudly owned and so much loved by Sherry & Rob Hartung 
Bernese have been in our lives for over 32 years, and during that time we have only had two Berners live to 9 1/2. A double digit Berner seemed to elude us ----- until TODAY, April 30th. Our BARC rescue, JOYE, is TEN!!!! She sure doesn't look it or act it. Joye is a very special girl, and since surviving mast cell cancer, bloat and gastric torsion, then downsizing her Berner brothers to Cavalier King Charles Spaniel brothers (Griffin & Brodi), she has taken on a new lease on life and seems to have reverted back to a two year old. 
Happy 11th Birthday Joye is aging like a fine wine! 
Joye - loved and greatly missed, with Griffin and Brodi. We have never seen such an incredible will to live, as we saw in Joye. Three weeks ago, I thought she was done, but she was still loving life and belly rubs, smiling and wagging her tail, and playing with her Cavalier brothers, but then she stopped eating, even all her favourites. We tried feeding her by syringe three times a day, and she gratefully accepted the nutrients, and probably the fuss made over her, so we did that for over two and a half weeks and were able to get her fed and keep her strength up. Then yesterday, Sunday, she refused her feedings, and needed to be carried around more. We knew then that we had to give her the dignity she deserved. Griffin (the black and tan Cavalier) and Brodi (the tri-colour "mini-me" Cavalier) went with us today and quietly laid next to Joye as she slipped from this life into her next journey at Rainbow Bridge with no pain. Here on earth though, the house is noticeably quiet and really lonely without a Berner. Griffin and Brodi, and our inherited cat, Jamie, put together don't even make up a Berner, not even a small one like Joye, but they are doing a good job of comforting me and licking away tears!
