Shapeshifter books

After working for a long time on my RPG booklist, now here's my list of novels, young adult, comics, manga, movies, and graphic novels I have that center on Shapeshifters and Werewolves. However, there are still a few things I need to add on the list.

Nadya
By Pat Murphy
ISBN: 0-812-55188-5
US Publisher: TOR
First edition in Nov. 1996
$6.99

Mystery
A murder or other accident has happened and somebody is behind it. Sometimes even the werewolf/shapeshifter wasn't behind it.

Blood Trail
By Tanya Huff
ISBN: 0-88677-502-7
US Publisher: DAW
First edition in Feb. 1992
$5.99
Note: A series about a Vampire detective who solves supernatural cases. This book, out of the series, involves a case on werewolves.

Romance
Unfortunately for Hyena, there are writers/readers who dig this dumb fluff as do fanfic writers/readers do. Wilderness is perhaps the only romance novel that doesn't annoy me because it deals with it lightly. And...groan...for the sake of my fandom, I'll probably read more of this stuff on my will to tell others what to avoid of.

Wilderness
By Dennis Danvers
ISBN 0-671-72828-8
US Publisher: Pocket Books
First edition in Jun. 1992
$5.50

Fantasy
Dragons, magic, and all that stuff.

Operation Luna
By Poul Anderson
ISBN: 0-812-58027-3
US Publisher: TOR
First edition in Aug. 1999
$6.99
Note: Ugh...I don't like Poul Anderson. It becomes that boring to read at times, waaayyy too much slow rising action for anyone to handle, by the time you even get to the climax, you only have four pages left to read.

The Anubis Gates
By Tim Powers
ISBN: 0-441-00401-6
US Publisher: ACE
First edition in Dec. 1983
$12.95
Note: Tim Powers....Wow. What a strange read, really bizarre, yet interesting.

The Last Dragonlord
By Joanne Bertin
ISBN: 0-812-54541-9
US Publisher: TOR
First edition in Dec. 1998
$5.99
Note: Weredragons, nuff said.

Dog Eat Dog
By Jerry Jay Carroll
ISBN: 0-441-00597-7
US Publisher: ACE
First edition in Feb. 1999
$12.00
Note: Part of a series, where a guy keeps changing into a dog (or dreams it) and adventures into a parallel fantasy world.

Feet of Clay
By Terry Pratchett
ISBN: 0-06-105764-9
US Publisher: HarperPrism
First edition in Oct. 1996
$5.99
Note: Who doesn't love Pratchett? In this one, we have a vegetarian werewolf.

Shape-Changers
Chronicles of the Cheysuli: book one
By Jennifer Roberson
ISBN: 0-88677-140-4
US Publisher: DAW
First edition in Feb. 1984
$5.99
Note: Part of series, very sterotypical 'unicorn fantasy fluff', if you know what I mean.

The Shape-Changer’s Wife
By Sharon Shinn
ISBN: 0-441-00261-7
US Publisher: ACE
First edition in Oct. 1995
$5.99
Note: If you like Magicians and Shapeshifting, I highly recommend this book. Very interesting.

Dragon Bones
By Patricia Briggs
ISBN: 0-441-00916-6
US Publisher: ACE
First edition in Mar. 2002
$6.99
Note: Yet another interesting fantasy book. I suggest you look it up, also looks like it's going to become a series. In this we have a dragon who can assume the shape of a human boy.

Dragonlance: The Silver Stair
Bridges of Time Series
By Jean Rabe
ISBN: 0-7869-1315-0
US Publisher: TSR/WotC/Hasbro
First edition in Jan. 1999
$5.99
Note: Nothing with weres, but Gnolls (Hyena men) count don't they? One of my favorite Hyena humanoid characters in a book.

The Catswold Portal
By Shirley Rousseau Murphy
ISBN: 0-451-45275-5
US Publisher: ROC
First edition in Sept. 1993
$5.50
Note: More 'unicorn/fairy fantasy fluff'. About humans who can change into cats. And how one female gets stuck in our world after a nasty takeover. I think the best part of the book is how the human artist figures out a way to defeat the evil queen.

Changer
By Jane Lindskold
ISBN: 0-380-78849-7
US Publisher: AVON EOS
First edition in Dec. 1998
$5.99
Note: One of my favorite fantasy series. The main character, Changer, is a coyote shapeshifter. There's even Loki and werewolves in the series. Not to mention King Arthur, Satyrs, Susa-no-o (the Japanese god of Thunder and Lighting), and other gods and mythical creatures hiding out in our world.

Legends Walking
By Jane Lindskold
ISBN: 0-380-78850-0
US Publisher: AVON EOS
First edition in Dec. 1999
$6.99
Note: Another book in the Changer series.

The Blood Jaguar
By Michael H. Payne
ISBN: 0-312-86783-2
US Publisher: TOR
First edition in Dec. 1998
$22.95 (Yes, I own the hardcover)
Note: Another fun book to read if you can get it. Animal humanoids now rule the world, but also have their own gods. Three characters must stop a horrible event caused by the Blood Jaguar.

Sci-fi
Werewolves/Shapeshifters as aliens, gene splicing, highly evolved wolves...er...wolfen, created by science, what have you.

Moonbane
By Al Sarrantonio
ISBN: 0-553-28186-0>>395
US Publisher: Bantam Books
First edition in Oct. 1989
$4.95
Note: WOW! This baby screams to be reprinted. I think werewolf fans would love this one just for how it's represented. To me it has become one of my favorites. In this the werewolves are aliens, after the destruction of the moon, are now invading earth.

The Wolfen
By Whitley Strieber
ISBN: 0-553-12626-1
US Publisher: Bantam Books
First edition in Aug. 1978
$2.50
Note: The book, as always, is different from the movie. In this, highly evolved wolves have been hiding from us for years. And they happen to not only be smart as humans and have their own language, but deadly as well.

The Island of Dr. Moreau
By H. G. Wells
ISBN: 0-812-56707-2
US Publisher: TOR
$2.99
Note: Classic.

Comedy
The books making fun of the old werewolf story, or just being silly.

Howling Mad
By Peter David
ISBN: 0-441-34663-4
US Publisher: ACE
First edition in Nov 1989
$5.99
Note: What if a wolf got bitten by werewolf? Mayhem happens as a wild wolf has to cope and understand how to be a human every full moon!

Based upon ‘TV/movie/PC or Video game/etc’
The game, movie(s), TV show, Radio play came out first, and somebody wrote a book on it (with the company's rights). Sorta like Fanfiction, but they get paid for it.

ISBN: 0-451-45621-1
US Publisher: ROC
First edition in Dec. 1998

Primal Rage
The Avatars
By John Vornholt
ISBN: 1-57297-230-0
US Publisher: Boulevard
First edition in Mar. 1997
$5.99

Anthologies
Collected stories n' stuff. However, there’s just one thing I have to say: How many times does ‘Boobs’ needs to reprinted into short story collections!? Yes, I love the story, but I also like seeing variation as well. That’s why I thank Tomorrow Bites for not including it because the book involves Sci-fi with werewolves. So that’s why I’ve have written in “Boobs” should it appear in that book proving it is getting a little annoying seeing it all the time.

Wolf poop award:
Perhaps the worst of the most horrible books around, something anything a self-respecting werewolf/shapeshifter fan should AVOID at all costs. Hyena gives the Wolf Poop award to:

Quarrel with the Moon
By J.C. Conaway
ISBN: 0-523-48033-4
US Publisher: TOR (Why? Whhhhhyyy!? Did you let this book be published?)
First edition in Apr. 1982 (And I hope it’s never reprinted AGAIN!!)
$2.95
Note: I bought this book out of a used bookstore, hoping it might be a good werewolf book. Boy was I wrong and I’m giving you fair warning not to read or buy it: It’s that bad of a stinker. Many things in the plot make no sense what so ever and the writing style is almost average. The ending makes you feel cheapen, I’ll just stop right here: THIS IS PROBABLY THE WORST WEREWOLF BOOK EVER WRITTEN ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH! …werewolf hillbillies… the pain I tell you…the pain…
