The Girl from the Mystic Moon

It seems that the wolf/bear/man creatures are actually people - no, creatures - that Van knows.  Van tells the beast dude that he went to the Mystic Moon and Hitomi was one of the people from there.  Hitomi asks what's the Mystic Moon?  The beast guy points to Earth and states that that's the Mystic Moon.  Suddenly Hitomi has a vision of a city being destroyed.  She shrugs it off as just another one of those weird things that have been happening to her lately.

On arriving at the top of this hill, the beast guy (i still don't know his name) points to this city nestled in a valley and tells her that that city is Fanelia. They go inside the city gates and are welcomed by the people.  Hitomi is quite speechless again at all the houses and the similarities of this world and Earth.  Meanwhile Van had, literally, leaped off the super big buffalo they were riding, and was embraced by a cat girl with pink hair who came tearing out of the crowd and flinging her arms around "Van-sama".  The cat girl, who's name is Merle, says she was worried to death about him and proceeds to lick Van's face...-_-;   Here's a quote from Hitomi in which she said in a kind of an exasperated voice "First wolf men, and now a little cat-girl...".    She never did finish her musings because four men came forward and Van nodded to them.  He then raised the pink ball (remember that?) and made a speech about how he had completed the Rite of Dragonslaying and has returned with a Drag-energist.(that's the little pink ball)  The four brigidar generals looked all googly eyed and bowed down to Van.  Hitomi, meanwhile, had cocked her head questioningly and was surprised (once again) to hear that Van is the prince of Fanelia.

Hitomi is thinking about Yukari and Amano while sitting at the window of her new room.  Suddenly Merle peeks her head in and gives Hitomi very high blood pressure... Merle tells Hitomi to not get to familiar with Van.  Hitomi tells her she has no intention of getting "familiar" with Van.  Merle give Hitomi  a sideways glance and starts to rummage through Hitomi's stuff, (she brought some things in a duffel bag) making Hitomi VERY annoyed.  Merle then steals Hitomi's pendant, the pendant that Hitomi's grandmother gave her.  Merle runs outta the room and down the hallways with Hitomi in hot pursuit, in a rather bad mood.  Hitomi forgets about Merle for a moment when she sticks her head into the doorway of a room to see who was in there.  Van and Balgus, the leader of the brigidar generals, were practicing their swordsmanship.  Balgus tells Van that he doesn't charge aggressively enough and then Van confesses to Balgus that he doesn't like mortal sword combat anyways.  Balgus tells him... oh wait, this ain't real important stuff... this is the little details again!  I'm just going to keep on going with the general episode story... Anyways, Balgus noticed Hitomi's watching them.  Hitomi looks around, sees there's no hiding place and very nervously came forward, saying she was sorry she was being a snoop.  Merle's right outside the door and she mutters something about foreigners not having any manners and thrust the pendant into Hitomi's hands.  She then ran to hug her Van-sama and Balgus came forward to talk to Hitomi.  He said that he had heard about how Hitomi had saved Van's life and that after the coronation ceremony of Van, they would do everything in their power to return Hitomi to the Mystic Moon.  Hitomi was quite touched and comforted by this.

It's Van's coronation ceremony.  He's all dressed up and the priest person named him King of Fanelia.  Meanwhile, guards posted around the city see a wavering of the air... like heat waves.  They thought they were imagining things but then this claw thingie reached out of the heat waves and then i think the guards died or something.  It was an attack from an invisible enemy!   Balgus had a quick talk with the other generals and then prepared for battle.  Van asked what should he do.  Balgus told him to go to the shrine with Hitomi, and should it prove necessary, to take Escaflowne and flee.  At the shrine, Van purposely cut his thumb on his sword and let a few drops of blood drip onto the Drag-energist (the pink ball).  Then he holds it up and  makes another speech thing about him making a blood pact with Escaflowne and then he tells Escaflowne to awaken.  Hitomi is astounded!  Why, the thing that was now before Van was one of the giant fighting machines she had seen in her ealier dream/vision!   Van jumped up to the chest of Escaflowne (the mecha) and inserted the Drag-energist into this jelly like substance on the left side of Escaflowne's chest. (that's sounds bad! It's a good thing Escaflowne isn't a girl!) Escaflowne starts glowing.  Van gets inside the cockpit of the mecha and all these high tech stuff start happening to secure Van in Escaflowne.  Suddenly, one wall of the shrine has a big hole in it and there's a faint outline of another mecha accompanied by the shimmering of air again.  Van declares that "they're here" and tells Hitomi to hide.  Hitomi obeys and Van draws his big sword.  Hitomi somehow somewhat sees the outline of the mecha and shouts to Van that the invisible enemy is to his left!  He quickly turns just in time to avoid leaving this world early and attacked towards the place where the mecha was... making the Guymelef (that's what they're called; the mechas, that is) lose it's shield of invisiblity or whatever... While Van is busy with THAT Guymelef, Hitomi sees another shimmering in the air behind Van and she calls out to him once again.   However, he can't turn or else the Guymelef he's battling would chop him down... just when we all thought Van was going to lose his spinal cord for life, Balgus with his HUGE sword leaps in and chops off the Guymelef's arm... the Guymelef who was going to attack Van from behind.   Balgus once again tells Van to take Hitomi and leave but Van says that he'll never turn his back on an enemy and retreat.  So here's Van still battling with the remaining Guymelef when he's in a tight spot again (he's currently not a VERY skilled battler) and Balgus saves him.  Balgus insist that Van leave right now so Van grabs Hitomi gently with his giant Guymelef fist and runs through the hole in the wall.   He stops in shock at the sight before him; Fanelia was burning down to ground and all of Fanelia's Guymelef's were all lying there, dead!   Hitomi now has another vision and she screams out "LOOK OUT BALGUS!" but she was too late... the enemy had struck from behind and Balgus fell at the feet of Escaflowne.  Van is even more "distressed" though that would be putting it lightly.  Balgus' dying words were for Van to take Escaflowne and flee, and maybe come back one day to rebuild Fanelia and reunite the people again.  Van screams with grief and Hitomi felt no less better.  The invisible Guymelefs are now returning to visibility and Hitomi sees that they are surrounded. (How many times do they have to get surrounded?!)  She screams "NOOO!" partly because Balgus' death and their current predicament.  Her pendant glows and Van and Hitomi are enveloped in a column of light that reached far into the heavens.
