Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-Hime) is one of Hayao Miyazaki's epic films that has been released in the United States. It was a boxoffice hit over in Japan, and grossed the second-highest amount of a film ever in Japan, with only Titanic making more. This film is Miyazaki's masterpiece, a dynamic movie that breaks the boundaries of animation.
Princess Mononoke is about an epic struggle between the primevial forest and its gods and the encroaching human population that threatens to destroy it. The story begins with a young warrior, Prince Ashitaka of the Emeshi people, fighting a demon who threatens to destroy his home village. He defeats it, but is cursed with a deadly mark that will slowly kill him. He is instructed to travel far to the west, "to see with eyes unclouded by hate". And so the story begins.
