Sazan Yuromi and Korei Zaroi were best friends since birth. It was like fate that they were born on the same day. They always knew that nothing would ever cut their bond. Their friendship was as if they could read each other not like a book, but like a keyboard. They knew exactly which finger will hit which letter and what moment. The who, what, when, where, and how was never a mystery between the two. It was like they shared the same mind, or as if they were destined to walk the same path and lead the same lives.
"Mom! I'm going to Korei's place and I'll be back late."
"Be careful and behave yourself, okay, Sazan?"
"Yeah, Mom... You know how I am."
"Only sometimes, Sazan..."
The Yuromis and the Zarois lived on the opposite ends of Yumei, the town that they lived in. It was a pretty big place seeing how there were only 100 left in their people. Yumei was located far from other cities and villages to prevent any more decrease in the people of the village. But, they also had special information that they hid away from the rest of the world to prevent global chaos. Only the Usaki, a special group of the government knows of this secret.
"Alright. Time to go."
Sazan and Korei have planned to sneak into the library to test their devices and gadgets. It was the only place in town that was empty at night. Sazan wasn't going to Korei's house. They were to meet at West Point, the biggest bridge in Yumei.
"Hey, Sazan. Have everything?"
"Yeah. I'm ready."
"Good. Go to the bell tower and I'll head to South Point. When Luna hits top, head in through the back. I'll get through the roof."
"Got it."
"Then go."
They split up and head towards their destinations. The Yumei clan are ninja. They are swift on their feet and silent in their doings. Sazan and Korei have no problems being detected by the night guards since they are two of so little that take their clan culture seriously.
"Alright. Bell tower. Korei should be at South Point by now. But the moon still hasn't reached the point."
*CRACK*
"What? There's something there."
Sazan is fired at with a blast of energy, but dodges it quickly. Sazan is completely struck with fear. He has never seen anything like this before. Being of a ninja clan, Sazan is ready to fight. He pulls out his katana from his left side and stands ready.
"Who's there?! What do you want?!"
A figure pops out. A tall man with short, gray hair and red eyes. Black coat that drags to the ground as he walks, black boots not scratched at all, one black leather glove with the fingers cut off on his left hand. Numerous jeweled rings on his right hand. A large scar starting from the end of his right eyebrow to the middle of his cheek. He stands tall and proud.
"Who are you?..."
Everyone in the Yumei clan knows each other for protective reasons. Sazan knows that kids like Korei and himself are not supposed to be out in the village at late nights like this, for security reasons. If they were caught, they would be sent directly to the Usaki. Sazan didn't recognize him, but he didn't call for help. He figured that since he and Korei were still studying the ninja, they were the only villagers that could stand a chance against any outsiders. If he called for Korei, they would have to face the Usaki. Sazan took his sword and stood in Yangai stance, ready to strike.
"Kid... You have no idea who you are dealing with. The Yumei clan will perish."
"..."
*SLASH*
Sazan tests his skill and charges at the strange man, but where his sword was swung, was nothing. The man was gone. Another energy blast from above. At last second, Sazan notices it and dashes out of the way. He looks to his left and sees the man charging straight at him. He barely escapes the attack. The man in black misses him, but crashes into the bell tower knocking it completely down. Sazan is frightened. He knows the government will come as soon as the bell hits the ground.
A big cloud of smoke appears and the man vanishes. Now all there is to do is wait until that bell reaches the brick walkway.
"Huh?"
Someone grabs Sazan and carries him off to a different location.
"W-what? K-Korei! Now they'll send us both to the Usaki."
"I was on my way to the bell tower as soon as I saw that flash of light. I knew something was wrong. I was heading there to help you, but when I got there, your skills proved that you didn't need it. But still, no matter how much skill you have, you can't escape the Usaki. I couldn't just leave you there after you defended the village."
"What if they find us?"
"I don't know..."
"..."
"Head home, Sazan."
"What?..."
"Go now! And don't been seen."
"Right."
Korei watches as Sazan leaps the roofs of the village. He gets up and heads in the opposite direction.
"I hope government doesn't find out."

*Clang, clang, clang*
Sazan wakes up to the sound of bells.
"Now the village is making fun of me. How I couldn't defend my home."
"Sazan! Wake up!"
Sazan heads downstairs to see his mother at the door with a look of urgency in her eyes.
"What's going on, Mom?"
"Town meeting! Something happened last night!
Hurry up, let's go Sazan!"
His mother runs out.
"...No way..."
Sazan walks out and finds all the villagers heading towards Yumei Square. Prince Raie is on the stage and the villagers are gathered around him. Korei is nowhere in sight.
"Listen, everyone! Apparently, our village has been discovered by an outside clan! There was an explosion and a bright flash last night. There is a very small amount of us Yumei and we do not know what it is that they are searching for. Maybe they're just blood thirsty killers seeking places for hunt. Maybe they desire the Yumei ninja skills. None can say. But, either way, me must defend our village at any cost!"
Sazan is up and looking for Korei. He's nowhere to be found.
"Korei! Dude, where are you..."
"See the damages made last night..."
"Where'd you go after I left?"
"The bell tower has crumbled to pieces..."
"..."
"It was said that two residents were seen outside during the incident."
"What?!"
Sazan's heart started pounding as fast as it did the night before.
"Anyone that knows about last night..."
"This isn't good."
"It would really help if any information..."
Sazan starts panicking, desperately searching for his friend.
"If anyone at all..."
"Sazan!"
Sazan jumps back, scared for his life.
"Oh, no! They found me! What am I going to do?!"
"Sazan!"
"What will happen to me? What will the Usaki do?"
"Sazan!"
