Episode 14: SEELE, Throne of Souls
Extended: In text it says: The Third Angel Sachiel's Attack. Conventional weapons were found to have no effect on the Angel. The UN force, having failed to accomplish their task…Transferred command to the special organization NERV. At midnight of the same day, the Angel arrived above NERV headquarters. Also on the same day, this individual was acquired. The Third Child Shinji Ikari. He was accepted as pilot for…Evangelion Unit 01, and sortied in its first engagement. NERV thereby experienced its first combat. The First Battle of Tokyo-3. Eva Unit 01 sustained damage to its head component and went out of control. There was complete silence. Then…it went berserk. Audio is played from Misato as images are shown of the 3rd Angel and Unit 1. It says that the fact Shinji Ikari managed to accomplish the mission deserves special notice. Text says: The Third Angel and Unit 01… were both observed generating an A.T. Field. Unit 01 penetrated the enemy's A.T. Field. The Angel was destroyed. The Intercept Facility was slightly damaged. Eva Unit 01 received moderate damage. The number of victims incurred during this incident was not made public. Audio from Toji's notebook says that her sister wasn't even injured by the enemy and he would find the jerks that did it and teach them a lesson. The Fourth Angel. Shamshel's Attack. Along with images of the battle with Shamshel the text said: The performance ratio of surface-to-air intercept system was 48.2%. The operation ratio of the Tokyo-3 battle formation was 96.8%. Hikari's diary says they've had a lot of evacuation training at school. In text: The Angel arrived above Tokyo-3. The Second Battle of Tokyo-3. Although the power supply cable was accidentally cut… Eva successfully defeated the Angel. NERV acquired a completely intact Angel specimen. As of yet, however, no final report or analysis has been submitted or published. The Fifth Angel. Ramiel's Attack. Images of combat with 5th Angel in between text, which says: To combat this nearly impregnable enemy… Captain Katsuragi proposed Operation Yashima, for which she received approval. The First Child. Shows Rei Ayanami. In text: She received her first combat experience in the rehabilitated Eva Unit 00. At midnight of the same day, part of the Angel penetrated into the Geo Front. NERV carried out Operation Yashima. From the personal files of Kensuke it said in audio that Shinji never told him exactly what happened but he'd guess that Rei tried to sacrifice herself to protect him from Angel's particle beam. He thinks Rei has no respect for her own self but it isn't just pessimism. In text: Operation Yashima was successfully completed. Eva Unit 00 sustained heavy damage. However, its pilot returned alive. The Sixth Angel. Gaghiel's Attack. SEELE says in audio that the event did not occur in accordance with their scenario. Gendou says that it occurred within parameters. In text: The Second Child. Shows Asuka. Images of combat with 6th Angel in between text, which says: The first engagement in Eva Unit 02… involved hand-to-hand combat over the open sea… and… the first under-water sortie. The encounter took place in the region of the former Ito Peninsula. The Angel was destroyed. Audio talks about the UN losing one third of its fleet and others saying it is inconsequential. In text: The Seventh Angel. Israfel's Attack. Images of combat with 7th Angel in between text, which says: This was the first Angel encountered to possess the ability to separate and recombine parts of its body. Eva Units 01 and 02 utilized a simultaneous, synchronized attack… and the Angel was destroyed. The Eighth Angel. Images of attempted capture and battle with 8th Angel in between text, which says: Sandalphon was detected in the volcanic crater of Mt. Asama. NERV ordered a Special Command A-17. The capture operation was performed under top priority conditions. The target was trapped within an electro-magnetic barrier, but… the cage was destroyed and the operation was aborted. Immediately, the objective of the operation was altered to the destruction of the Angel. Eva Unit 02 accomplished the operation. The Angel was destroyed. Repair and upgrades on Eva Unit 00 were completed. The Eva was returned to operational status. The Ninth Angel. Matariel's Attack. Images of combat with 9th Angel in between text, which says: This was the first simultaneous operation of all three Eva Units. The Angel was destroyed. The Tenth Angel. Sahaqiel's Attack. Images of combat with 10th Angel in between text, which says: The enemy dropped onto targets directly from the stratosphere. All three Eva Units intercepted the target. The Angel was destroyed. The Eleventh Angel. There is a rumor that this Angel penetrated into NERV HQ. However, this Angel's existence has not yet been confirmed as fact. Human Instrumentality Project Special Conference. Members of SEELE are saying that the 11th Angel did not occur with predictions and it could have ended in disaster. Gendou tells them there is no fact behind tale of an angel invasion and it never occurred. One member says that lying to the committee is punishable by death. Gendou says the time schedule is being carried out in accordance with the Dead Sea Scrolls and everything is proceeding according to SEELE's plans. Rei is talking as images change to different things. She says something in the lines of: Mountains change with the passage of time. Sky blue. Sun, only one. Water, it is agreeable. Commander Ikari. Flowers, so many the same and so many without purpose. Sky, sky of red. Red the color, the color I hate. Liquid flows, drips, ripples, and pours. Scent of blood, humans made by man and woman. City, a human creation. Eva, a human creation as well. What are humans? Are they a creation of God? That which is created by humans. My life, my heart a vessel for my thoughts. Who is this? This is me. Who am I? What am I? I am I. This is the self, which can be seen yet it is not myself. It feels as if my body is melting, I can no longer see myself. Fades from view I sense someone who is not me. Shinji. Major Katsuragi. Dr. Akagi. People. Classmates. The pilot of Unit 2. Commander Ikari. Who are you? Who are you? Rei is sitting in an entry plug when Ritsuko asks Rei how it feels to be piloting Unit 1. She says it smells like Ikari. In text: First Compatibility Experiment Subject: Rei Ayanami. Ritsuko looks at the readings and her synch ratio almost same as unit 0. The patterns are almost identical. The test ends. In text: 87th Joint Operations Experiment Subject: Asuka Langley. Unit 2 data is completed and the pilot reads normal. Asuka says that of course she's normal. In text: First Compatibility Experiment Subject: Shinji Ikari. Unit 0 data has been reconfigured. Shinji is a bit jittery. Asuka says its stupid and why should he care what Eva he's in anyway. Misato says it makes a difference to Shinji. Asuka asks why they don't run compatibility tests on her. Misato says they didn't think she'd want to pilot any other Eva. She says that's true. Misato wonders if Unit 2 would be compatible. Shinji is asked how he feels. He says he feels a bit odd and it smells like Ayanami. Second stage is reached and his synch ratio is lower. Ritsuko says they are still good readings and they may be able to implement their plan. Maya asks if she is talking about the Dummy system. Maya says she isn't convinced. Ritsuko says she'll learn once she's gotten her hands dirty. 3rd connection is reached and Asuka starts talking to Shinji. Ritsuko tells Asuka to stop interrupting. Shinji says what the hell, something's trying to get into my brain. Rei, Rei Ayanami. Images of Rei flash. Shinji says feeling impression, it's hers. Mental contamination is starting. Ritsuko says the plug can't. Maya says its coming from the Eva. Unit 0 breaks free. Ritsuko orders the power cut. They can't monitor Shinji's status and the eject doesn't work. Unit 0's fist pounds on the glass wall to the test facility. It starts to hit its head against the wall. Misato thinks it tried to kill Rei. Ritsuko and Misato are talking, Ritsuko says they will configure Unit 0 and run a synch test. After Misato leaves, Ritsuko thinks it was trying to attack her. Shinji wakes up and says that he hates that ceiling. Hyuga reports to Misato that Shinji regained consciousness, shows no signs of contamination, and he doesn't remember. Asuka is sitting on her bed thinking that Misato and Kaji won't tell her anything about her, Shinji doesn't know anything, and then wonders aloud just what is the first child. Fuyutsuki says the Angel invasion was a deviation from the scenario and SEELE is buzzing around their heads looking for something to complain about. Gendou says there is nothing they can do. Fuyutsuki says if SEELE starts to interfere there could be trouble. Gendou says everything is going according to the scenario. Fuyutsuki asks about the Unit 0 incident. Gendou says it will have no effect and the synch test was successful. Fuyutsuki thinks that Gendou's too concerned about protecting Rei. Fuyutsuki asks what the status of the Adam project is. It is going well and Rei is handling the Lance of Longinus operation. Unit 0 is shown walking with the lance. To be continued…
