1/31/05 In response to significant consumer demand, DreamWorks Pictures has announced the release of a revised Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence DVD that includes a proper English language subtitle track. First edition copies of the DVD contain only a closed caption track. The Innocence DVDs that have a "v4" marked on their spine are the remastered version.

Time Warner and Itochu Corp. have announced plans to jointly produce new anime for simultaneous broadcast on the Cartoon Network in Japan and North America.

Japan's CQ Motors has announced plans to release a limited edition electric car, designed by Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama, this March.

1/25/05 According to Moon Phase, the first episode of the second Stratos 4 OAV series, Stratos 4 Advance: Code 201 Wave Off, will air on the Japanese Kids Station television network on March 5th.

Japanese software company Alegria Corporation has announced a new addition to its "IncrediMail WOW" line, "Shin Seiki Evangelion Tsushin Keikaku" (Neon Genesis Evangelion Mail Project). The E-mail program provides an Evangelion theme enhanced by animated gifs and audio samples. The Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP software is available from the official site for a free 5 day trial. (After five days, the program defaults to a regular, non-Evangelion themed, e-mail program.)



1/24/05 The Cartoon Network has licened all 167 episodes of Inuyasha for American broadcast. In response to poor ratings, the Cartoon Network will not acquire new episodes of "Case Closed." The network will continue to air the 50 episodes it owns broadcast rights to. The Cartoon Network has no plans to co-produce a third season of The Big O. The Cartoon Network has allowed its broadcast rights to Outlaw Star to expire. The Cartoon Network presently has no plans to seek American broadcast rights to Naruto, the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, or Robotech. According to Galaxy Anime, Adult Swim and Geneon have confirmed that the Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent anime television series will air on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim program this summer.

TOKYOPOP has formally revealed its acquisition of translation rights to Harold Sakuishi's manga series Beck.

Tomy has announced development of "Naruto: Saikyo Ninja Daikesshu 3 for DS," a side-scrolling Naruto game for the Nintendo DS.




1/19/05 Giant cable company Comcast, which bought International Channel Networks from Liberty Media Corp. last July, has announced plans to redesign the International Channel as an Asian themed television network this spring. The International Channel currently reaches 10 million homes throughout America. The redesigned International Channel will consist of current day Asian news broadcasts, English-language original programing, and a wide selection of Asian language acquisitions ranging from Korean dramas to Bollywood films.

According to ICv2 News, the Cartoon Network has contracted to acquire and broadcast 26 new episodes of TOKYOPOP's Rave Master anime television series.

After opening in limited American theatrical release last Friday, the Appleseed motion picture earned $79,818 in its first four days of release, or roughly $643 per theater per day.

According to Animated Bliss, Manga Entertainment will release the Street Fighter Alpha 2 anime DVD on June 7.

The Dallas Kidfilm Festival will screen the English language dub of The Cat Returns this Sunday, January 23rd, at 2:30 PM. Tickets will go on sale at 11:30 AM on the day of the show.

Starting on on January 22nd the FoxBox programming block will be renamed 4Kids TV. The newly renamed block will continue to air on Fox on weekend mornings.




1/17/05 In a new interview, director James Cameron has stated that he'd like to create a trilogy of Battle Angel films. "If we're successful, we'll make the other films. If we're not, we won't," the director said. Cameron also revealed plans to emphasize a "darker, dystopian message" in his Battle Angel film.

Square Enix has announced that its upcoming sci-fi/fantasy Playstation 2 RPG Code Age will debut as a manga serial. The first chapter of the Code Age manga will appear in next month's issue of Shonen Gangan Magazine.

Marvelous Entertainment has announced that "Beck: The Game," a Playstation 2 "live adventure game" based on the current Beck anime television series, will be released on March 31.

The Cartoon Network has announced that the Bandai and Xebec co-produced "anime" series D.I.C.E. (DNA Integrated Cybernetic Enterprises) will premier on Saturday, January 22nd at 7:30 pm.



1/12/05 This makes me happy: Dark Horse Comics has announced plans to release an English translated version of Hideyuki Kikuchi's first Vampire Hunter D novel, originally published in Japan in 1983. The 300 page novel will include its original 8 interior illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano and retail at $8.95 beginning May 4th.

In February Dark Horse will release a 24-page, 25-cent Trigun manga on February 9th. The promotion-oriented issue will be an excerpt from volume 2 of the Trigun Anime-Manga.



1/11/05 Box Office Mojo has reported that Howl's Moving Castle will debut theatrically in America this June. Buena Vista has not confirmed this report.

Dark Horse has acquired the English language translation and distribution rights to the single volume manga King of Wolves, the first published manga story written by Berserk creator Kentaro Miura, illustrated by Fist of the North Star artist Buronson. King of Wolves will be released in May.

Gonzo Studios has announced development of a new anime work currently known as "Solty."

Japan's Comptiq Magazine has announced that a second D.C. ~Da Capo~ anime series is in the works. The magazine's February issue will contain details.

Kadokawa Shoten has announced the March 1st release of the first volume in the Gundam Seed Destiny novelization.

James Cameron spoke about his plans of making a Battle Angel movie. "It will be a combination of the 1st and 3rd books." Who will play the main character of Alita, "A known actor will be cast to play Alita, but it is not a star driven movie. And most of Alita will be CG."




1/4/05 According to Japanese site Moon Phase, Fushigi Hoshi no Futago Hime (literally, "Mysterious Star of the Twin Princesses") will debut in April as a 52 episode anime TV series broadcast by Fuji TV.

According to Bookscan, the Rurouni Kenshin volume 1 was the best selling graphic novel of 2004 in mainstream American bookstores.




1/3/05 Happy Belated New Year. fter showing up on their site a few weeks ago, Anime Crash has officially confirmed their acquisition of the series Olympus Guardians. All 39 episodes are slated to start showing up on DVD this year.
