Montreal's Festival Nouveau Cinema will be screening Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and the 30-minute short version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in Japanese with English subtitles. The festival runs from October 14th to 24th.
The Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema, held in Waterloo, Ontario will be showing the Canadian premiere of the Appleseed movie, on October 27th and Katsuhiro Otomo's Steamboy on the 28th.

According to ICv2 News, The Anime Network has just enlarged its reach in Southern California thanks to an agreement with cable giant Adelphia Communications, which reaches an estimated 1.2 million Southern California households. CNN has reported that Shueisha Inc. will suspend printing "Kuni ga Moeru" (The Country is Burning) in its Weekly Young Jump magazine due to protests over its characterization of the 1937 "Rape of Nanjing." A Shueisha spokesman was quoted in the article as saying that the serialized manga will be suspended "for the time being," and that there are plans to change or remove parts of the comic when it is eventually released in collected form.
