Martian Successor Nadesico Volume 1 Directed by: Hideyuki Tanaka In 2195 A.D. Jovian lizard invaders from Jupiter defeated the defenses of the Martian colony. The United Earth Forces are fighting the Jovian invaders with little success. The civilian corporation, Nergal, created the battleship Nadesico. Yurika Misumaru, the young female captain of the Nadesico, runs into Akito Tenkawa on her way to the ship. They actually knew each other when they were kids and Akito goes after Yurika because he has questions about the death of his parents. However, she takes it as meaning he loves her. He gets hired as a cook, and eventually as an unwilling temporary pilot. Gai Daigoji, although not his real name, is the ship's main pilot of the Aestivalis robot units and is also obsessed with an anime show called Gekigangar. The mismatched crew is assembled based on their various talents and other odd pilots arrive. The DVD has four episodes, a trailer for the series, previews, character profiles, textless opening and closing, and translation notes. Final Verdict: This series has some good action and comedic scenes mixed in with a little bit of drama. It jumps into the story pretty well and has some interesting characters along with some nice development. |
