RahXephon Volume 1

Directed by: Yutaka Izubuchi

Kamina Ayato is a normal high school student, living several years in the future where the rest of the world has been destroyed, or so he thinks. Tokyo is attacked by a strange group of fighters and special weapons are used to battle them. Suddenly, Kamina is the center of attention by several groups. He finds himself drawn to a massive weapon and awakens it unconsciously. Kamina doesn't know whom to trust and or what to believe as he learns that many things he believes are only lies.

The first DVD has five episodes, clean opening and closing, a special Japanese promotional trailer, production sketches, and previews.

Final Verdict: Even though it's only the first volume, this series already has some high points. The end of episode five was a little cheesy and a bit of a disappointment in my opinion but I can see how it's necessary to continue the storyline and keep it going. The story is well done so far and the audience can relate, by being thoroughly confused along with Kamina. It has some good action scenes if not a bit strange. However, the main focus is on Kamina and how he deals with all these events going on around him. There are some good angst scenes and there seems to be a weird fascination with music and sound. If it continues at this caliber it's going to be a real treat.
