Serial Experiments Lain

Directed by: Ryutaro Nakamura

Lain is a young girl in school who becomes interested in computers after someone from her school commits suicide and seemingly e-mails students after her death. This interest grows until she is an established presence on the Wired. She's not certain what's going on and there are some odd things happening that are rumored to be the work of the Knights a group of people with great capabilities with computers.

The first DVD has four episodes, a promo video, conceptual drawings, and info on other Pioneer titles. If you click on the "i" in the title it shows Lain looking out over a field. The second DVD has three episodes, conceptual drawings, info on Pioneer titles, and a non-credit opening. On this DVD is you click on Lain's eyes, it will show Lain carrying an umbrella and something falling on it. The third DVD has three episodes, conceptual drawings, and commercials. Also, if you click on the button on Lain's shirt you see an odd picture. The fourth DVD has three episodes, conceptual drawings, and commercials. Also, if you click on Lain's eyes, it shows a picture and an off-color non-credit ending.

Final Verdict: All in all, this show is rather odd at times and takes a while to explain things. The story is unique and immerses the audience, but I felt the ending was unsatisfactory. Some parts are never explained fully and are just left up to the audience to decide.
