Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Directed by: Yoshiaki Kawajiri
In the distant future the vampire numbers are dwindling and bounty hunters have emerged to take the large bounties placed on the vampires. In this story a vampire named Link Meier captures Charlotte, and a large price will be paid to return Charlotte to her family. One group hired is the Markus Brothers who have several members. The other person hired is named D, who is a Dunpeal, where his father was a vampire and his mother was a human. He chases after the bounty in competition with the Markus Brothers and encounters obstacles and turns along the way.
The DVD features some theatrical trailers and TV spots for the movie and Urban Vision previews. It also has a behind the scenes featurette, a storyboard to feature comparison for three separate scenes and merchandise. There is also Fan's Favorite Scenes, in which the results of an internet poll show parts of the top ten scenes as chosen by fans. There is no Japanese track because one was never made, according to my understanding.
Final Verdict: This Vampire Hunter D movie is better than the first that was made in the 80s. The animation is very detailed and the story is done well. There are several subplots that are fleshed out quite nicely within the greater whole and some really good sequences. Also, you need not see the first one to see this one, because the only things connecting the two are D and things revealed about him in the first movie are brought up again in this one.
