Fun With Songs: Communist Christmas Propaganda

Shortly after the Russian Revolution, in order to dissuade religious practices, the Communist Party changed the lyrics of Christmas songs.

Hark! Fredrick Engels sings
Glory to the Communist regime!
Lenin looked down and he smiled,
Poor and wealthy reconciled!
Joyful, all ye commies, rise,
Join the vanguard or face demise;
With the secret police proclaim
Conform now or you’ll be slain!

Marx, by Lenin’s party adored;
Marx, his teachings not ignored;
