Fun With Songs 3: Communist Christmas Propaganda 3

Shortly after the Russian Revolution, in order to dissuade religious practices, the Communist Party changed the lyrics of Christmas songs. In this instance it was to show the people that Trotsky was nothing but a traitor to the Party.

I saw Trotsky kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the party flag last night.
He didn’t see me peep
Nor to the police I creep,
They thought that I was messed up
They thought that I should be beat

Then, they saw Trotsky tickle Santa Clause
Underneath the great red flag at night;
Oh, a travesty this has been
If the people had only seen
Trotsky betraying the party last night. -12/25/04
