Surveying Surveys
We’ve all been there, online with no one else on and extremely, utterly bored. I can encompass everyone reading this because anyone bored enough to come here is already at that point. Thanks for that by the way. Sometimes you just surf the web aimlessly, and sometimes you end up taking online quizzes. There are several sites out there full of quizzes to sate your boredom. Some of the quizzes are rather stupid though… okay most of them seem to be stupid and some aren’t even quizzes. I decided to go to one of these sites for “investigative purposes” and not at all because of boredom. I was quite shocked by some of the stupidity displayed on this particular site.
There seems to have been an infiltration of stupid persons into the once-respected industry of quiz creation. In the good old days that never existed and never will exist when there were no stupid people, things were different, quizzes were entertaining and you couldn’t tell by looking at the answers what you were going to get. Apparently instead of going to the site to take quizzes they’re making quizzes instead, and such rampant quiz-making is a dreadful thing to watch. It seems the site has also transformed into a matchmaking site of sorts. Even I am not so sad as to have people take quizzes designed to determine personality to get a date… though one shouldn’t always throw out such suggestions too quickly. Some of them are just one question invitations to have intercourse, and oddly enough, if you say no, one is sometimes still invited to partake in such things.
Some quizzes have creative premises like “How would you kill someone?” I became ‘giddy,’ so to speak, thinking about this quiz and found my answer was… a vampire?? That’s not my style at all, so I tried changing some answers and got vampire again, the quiz was just to recruit people to become vampires! That is what things have been degraded to! Such a wonderful premise thrown away to stupidity, it is truly a sad day. Some premises just make you look quizzically (look at my hilarity, both poignant and funny at the same time! Is there no end to my greatness?) at them. How can I be a tragic couple? I did not know that a single person could be defined as a couple. There is also a frightening amount of anime related quizzes, not about anime shows or movies themselves, but about dating characters. Now, I like anime, but wow. Even I think that’s creepy and odd (and that’s saying quite a lot just in case you haven’t gathered that yet).
Apparently some people think that your favorite color can only be blue, black, blue and black, orange, and if you don’t like any of those you just don’t care. Wow, I was unaware that the visible spectrum had become so depleted of colors. Another amazing quiz apparently is able to discern what mental illness you have from just two questions, what group you hang out with and your favorite color. Wow, what a miracle of modern technology, it takes psychologists years of study to determine the differences and all you need to ask is two simple questions! And after all that time I’ve sat on his couch he’s never asked me either of those, how horrid, oh well. Also, I am pleased to finally announce that I haven’t become “completely pathedic” whatever “pathedic” means. - 3/28/04
