A Pen Pen for your Thoughts

This section will just be for, basically random thoughts and feelings. Since my thought process is mostly random you can probably expect this to be updated frequently. Back to Previous Pennys. Back to Pen Penny.

What I Really, Really Want

Recently McDonald’s released a national campaign advertising new chicken strips. This is an obvious retaliatory action against KFC. Sadly, it is doomed to failure. The first attempt at promoting this led to many not knowing what the commercial was advertising because everyone watching turned the channel immediately. Explanation, someone (likely a KFC saboteur) decided that the song to play during the commercial was a song by the Spice Girls. I never liked this group, therefore I do not know the title of the song, but it goes on “I’ll tell you want I want, what I really, really want.” I must now profusely and humbly apologize for the previous sentence, considering it must have induced Vietnam-type flashbacks of the horrible song. It took me a long time just to bring myself to type it. I, believing in the good of man, thought that it would never again be heard on television or radio. I was wrong. It has once again invaded our homes. So after seeing the first few seconds of the commercial several times, resulting in a channel change, I still didn’t know what had once again unleashed this horror upon America. The next time I would not be so lucky. In the back of a room with a television on, remote out of reach, the commercial aired. I tried covering my ears to keep from hearing it, but it could not be stopped so easily. During my torture, I noticed that it was advertising new chicken strips at McDonald’s. After lying on the floor in uncontrollable spasms for quite some time. I realized why they are unveiling this new product. Recently, Colonel Sanders, with the help of Jason Alexander has been attacking the fast-food industry with ads insulting both hamburgers and the, in general equivalent of, “McNuggets.” His headquarters is located somewhere in Kentucky, where the Colonel has held an iron grip over the chicken industry for some time. McDonald’s has been the first to respond by introducing a chicken strip resembling that of KFC’s. It can be expected that other fast-food competitors may also introduce their own chicken products in hopes of dwindling that of the Colonel’s. The only way to topple the Colonel is that they band together. Unfortunately, this event is unlikely due to fast-food restaurants unwillingness to cooperate in the past. Attacks such as these may continue, with new products and ad campaigns. It will be interesting to see the Colonel’s response. Wisely McDonald’s second commercial no longer featured a Spice Girl song. Unfortunately for them it still had a bad song, made by McDonald’s. It is also in music video format. One cannot help but think that McDonald’s is trying to sabotage it’s own product. If their advertisements continue on this path, there is no hope for these chicken strips. With their end the menacing Colonel will continue to dominate the chicken market with his ruthless, unwavering grip. –3/31/02
