I'm Not Human (I'm Only Human)
Part 2

"Duo! I found him!" Quatre's shout echoed down the wide hallway.

Once through the door of the rental house, Duo went straight to his and Heero's bedroom and laid Heero down on the full-sized bed, the white sheets quickly turning a dark red. The other pilots were right behind Duo, and each assigned themselves a job. Trowa grabbed the first aid kit from the closet in the hallway, while Duo went to the bathroom to get a towel and a hot, wet washcloth. Quatre and Wufei sat on either side of Heero, holding his wrists tightly with their own hands to try and stop the bleeding. Duo and Trowa returned at the same time and immediately began working. Duo began carefully wiping off the dried blood all over Heero's body, and Trowa started with Heero's wrists.

"They're cut so deep" Trowa observed aloud. "I'm surprised he is still alive."

"Of course he's alive; he won't die" Duo snapped defensively at the tall boy's remark.

Trowa was going to say something logical back, but caught the warning look from Quatre and kept his mouth closed at usual.

"Help me sit him up" Trowa commanded Duo a moment later.

Duo and Wufei delicately lifted Heero's back off the bed, leaving the sheets with exact blood prints of the whip slashes from his ripped flesh. Trowa gently wrapped a white bandage around Heero's torso. When he finished, they carefully laid Heero back down. Trowa then cleaned the smaller cuts, and placed Band-Aids on them.

"He's sweating bad" Duo pointed out.

The other four boys looked to see beads of sweat covering Heero's body, causing him to shiver.

"I think we should move him to one of the twin beds in Wufei's room, he should sleep alone" Quatre voiced.

"I want to at least be in the same room with him" Duo said seriously.

"Fine" Quatre looked at Wufei.

"I don't care" Wufei agreed without complaint.

Duo was a little surprised at the Shenlong pilot; he expected Wufei to disagree and start his speech on the injustice of the idea.

"Thanks, Wufei" Duo smiled.

"Welcome" Wufei mumbled, glaring at Duo's grinning face.

Duo then carefully picked Heero up, cradling him in his secure arms, and walked to Wufei's room. Wufei followed, carrying Heero's laptop and Trowa was behind Wufei carrying Duo's belongings.

Duo gently laid Heero in the bed closest to the door, pulling the thick, dark green comforter up to the sleeping boy's chin. Meanwhile, Wufei had set the laptop on the desk and gathered his belongings, and Trowa put Duo's things away for him.

"Thanks, guys" Duo said with appreciation.

"That's what friends are for" Quatre said form the doorway.

"What about his sweating? He's really hot" Duo asked, touching Heero's cheeks and forehead.

"He probably has a fever. I'll get the thermometer" Quatre offered, walking to the bathroom.

Quatre hastily returned and stood over Heero, slightly opening his mouth and placing the battery-powered thermometer under his dry tongue. The numbers rapidly went up, quickly reaching 102°, and then it bounced back and forth a few numbers before deciding the temperature of 104°.

"That's not good" Duo pointed out the obvious as he stared at the still digits.

"If only we could take him to a hospital" Quatre said, taking the thermometer out of Heero's mouth.

"Yeah, but the only hospital around belongs to OZ" Duo reminded bitterly.

"All I know to do is to keep a cool washcloth on his forehead and give him over-the-counter medicine" Trowa advised.

"That'll have to do, hope it helps" Duo nodded, and headed for the medicine cabinet.

Quatre volunteered to get a large bowl of ice water and a washcloth from the kitchen. Duo came out of the bathroom with a small, paper cup filled with tap water in one hand, and an even smaller plastic cup with measurements along the side, filled with dark red, liquid medicine. He placed the paper cup down on a wooden night table that separated the two beds in the room, and sat down on the edge of the bed next to Heero's sleeping form.

Duo carefully lifted Heero's head and slightly opened his mouth. He slowly brought the plastic cup filled with cherry medicine up to Heero's dry, cracked lips and with steady control, tipped the cup, allowing the liquid to ooze into the boy's mouth, then he did the same with the cup of water. When finished, Duo slowly lowered Heero's head back on the pillow.

Quatre then came into the room, holding a blue, plastic bowl and an off-white washcloth. He handed the bowl to Duo, and Duo scooted it onto the night table, shoving other things to the side, forcing the things to group and share the space. Duo dipped his hand into the water with the washcloth, his fingers bumping into the slowly melting ice. He swirled the clothe around then took it out, ringed the excess water from it, then folded it long-ways and placed it on Heero's forehead, moving the moist bangs from Heero's warm, wet face. Trowa put a hand on Quatre's shoulder and looked at Wufei. The two understood and left.

"Good-night, Duo. If you need anything, just yell like you always do" Qautre gave a warm, sympathetic smile, then turned around and followed Trowa out of the room, closing the door behind him.

"Night" Duo whispered, then focused his attention back to his lover.

Duo stroked Heero's wet, warm cheek with his still moist hand. Duo closed his eyes and smiled as he felt Heero's soft skin. //It's been so long, feels like an eternity. I can't believe all this time was just a month. It probably felt even longer for Heero// Duo thought and opened his eyes. The American sighed and stood up. He took a quick shower then got into his own bed. He laid on his side so that he faced Heero, and watched the other boy until he could no longer keep his heavy eyelids from closing, and unconsciousness overtook him.
