Clash of the Gods

Quatre was within his mobile suit Sandrock. Around him were a few scattered mobile suits he'd managed to fight off. Quatre sighed softly, pulling off his goggles as he flipped on the radio system. "Sandrock to Wing, do you copy?" Static returned to the green-eyed boy. He went after Heero as soon as he left. He knew that Heero needed his help, he was certain of it. Especially with the new information he'd found on Danfar. Quatre tapped lightly on the console to his left, entering in the code to hack into the visual feedback. On the video tape was a clear image of Danfar standing in front of the camera.

"This is a personal recording of my logs to hopefully inspire the selected few I have given this tape," Danfar's cool voice began. "As we know, back in the history of earth we have several mythologies. We have Mayan, Norse, Greek, numerous, different systems of belief that seem to all enter connect. They all related to one another, the beings they speak of are all the same. A different name, but the same occupation. Orcus, Thanatos, Shinigami, Ah Puch, many names, which held the same occupation. Death." He began to pace, holding back his hair with a smirk, "We took it to assume that these were fables, mere fairy tales. Then explain to me this, how did several different cultures gain the same belief without contact to one another? How could a civilization hundreds of miles away, acquire the same information? It sounds silly perhaps, but this is the future now. We have launched colonies in space, were are trying to colonize our solar system in our on going quest for the greater unknown. And that is exactly what we found." Danfar flips down a poster, it shows various schematics.

"Gundanium alloy. This is a strange metal, only able to be mined out in space. It is strong and able to withstand any metal known to man. In mythologies there were beings that possessed weapons of great strength holding strong relation to this alloy. We discovered this alloy from a message received on our satellite systems when the colonies were launched. It was a message from... the stars I suppose you could say. It told of weapons that were made of a strong metal that could not easily be destroyed. Of course, these weapons can only be used by Gods. Or are they Gods at all? Would they have to be from another world? Genetically created to be compatible with the materials? Our genes are forever changing, but what if, one was born with the right DNA alignment. The perfect gene. Where their wounds heal easy, they can suffer serious damage and still show exceptional stature at even a young age. They would be the ones mentioned in our messages. These exceptional humans that caused the extraterrestrials to actually come to earth and live among with them, and mate with our species."

Danfar flips down the next poster to down two Gundams. Death scythe and Wing. "These models were inspired by the schematics received. The others are copies, while they also require special individuals, these two have the ability to destroy our solar system. The device placed within them was from pure, extraterrestrial data, it proved to be a shame that the Colonies got hold of the device before we were able. It came down to the matter of the pilot. How would you know who to chose? Fear, hatred, and anger inspires. Take that child away from their parents, kill their families, and see how far they'd go to gain revenge. Would they go far enough to accept piloting a Gundam? And when they did, if they died, they weren't the ones. But if they survived. Only their brain waves could start the device, and once it's started, only they will be able to use it. How will we be able to use them to find out the devices full ability? Patience. Show patience and you will see it unfold. Oz, nor the colonies know the potential of the Gundams, in fact, very few know the true history behind the alloy. We the selected few, have code named this project, Operation OSD, Odin/Shinigami Device. Why these names? In the Norse Mythology, Odin was always victorious in all battles, and nothing could top him. He was placed among the Gods as number '1'. It was said that Odin had drew one breath and was able to bring life into a piece of driftwood to become a man. And Shinigami who brings death so that other lives may be created. Odin cannot create, there would be over populace without death. And there can be no death without life. What irony. What perfect... irony..."

The tape ended there. Quatre took a deep breath. It was all too hard to swallow. He couldn't understand it. Had Heero and Duo been set up for this from birth? Was it an organization ploy, extraterrestrial trick or something divine? He couldn't understand. He just had a feeling that he needed to get there, and that he couldn't tell the other pilots. He just couldn't. Heero only talked to him. The Wing pilot was a very smart, collected boy, if there'd been need for Trowa or WuFei, he would have spoken to them. Quatre couldn't understand why Heero chose him. Judgment! That is why he chose me. WuFei and Trowa would follow their missions, and set objectives to any cost. I am the only one that would show caution and avoid fighting at all costs. "I am allowing you to learn this information incase I fail in my mission that you will find Duo..." That way... if Heero dies out there, I can get hold of Duo. Quatre closed his eyes tightly. These thoughts disturbed him. What would he do?

"Can you taste it? I can tell you what it tastes like. Hot, burning, liquid mercury. Running over your tongue, prickling the hairs on the back of your neck as the metallic flavor stains your mouth and your mind. The feeling of fire running through your veins and the sharp, searing pain that shakes the coils of your mind. It hurts. Maybe this is what dying feels likes. It's dark, painful, and you begin to feel lost. You no longer have physical form, and your aching, your spirit aches. Your sins and evils weigh you down like iron chains, and you become deathly afraid. You realize that you are dead, and you're not rising. You're not seeing arms open or loved ones welcoming you into eternity. You feel cold. You're alone. You only hear your own thoughts in the voices of others you've known. Is this hell? Hell we think of as a fiery torture, but what if true hell, is to be existing alone, in nothingness, with only your thoughts... for all eternity. No demons yelling for you to work. Nothing. No sight, sound, no floating, just nothing. No black, white, or colors. Only the voice. Your own voice. And you're alone..."

      "Go away."

"Heero, you can't run from yourself. You want to push people away, but is loneliness what you truly want? They say loneliness drives a man insane. It inflicts sorrow. Imagine an eternity of sorrow. You are the strong solider. You will always be Heero Yuy. None of that changes, but if you could have another with you to ease your eternities, would you want one?"

      "..."

"I am Odin. I am the living side of you. The part of you that lives deep within. I remain hidden, it is dangerous to be revealed, the power that you will possess will be tremendous. Power corrupts, simply look at Duo."

"Duo was not corrupted! Foolish thoughts. They made him that way."

"Duo was not forced to be Shinigami. The chip they placed in his brain, let him interface with his darker half. And he gave in. His darker half showed him, and told him things that let him give in."

      "Lies."

"I am you. I would not lie to myself. You and I are 'exhale', Shinigami and Duo are 'inhale'. Our existence is partnership. Linked."

"I am not linked to Duo."

"You are not ignorant. Duo is lost within his own mind. There is the question that Shinigami torments him with over and over. You must provide the answer. Depending upon how badly you wish for Duo to be saved, the answer will be clearer. For now, let me unite with you Heero, and show you the powers you can possess."

"Heero?" A soft, worried voice asked. Heero's eyes could barely open, the light touched his vision, sending sharp pains down his spine and shoulders. A pain that Heero could bear, one that he could ignore until Duo was retrieved. His fingers slowly began to move with progress. "Heero! Thank god, the operation was successful!" Heero did not move, trying to reclaim the focus of his eyes as the doctor pulled the I.V from his veins. "The chip within you we haven't fully tested. The results so far have been disastrous, Duo has been the only one to survive this long. Most patience died on the operation table, the one who managed to live the longest survived twenty minutes and forty-two seconds. Your life readings indicate however that everything is normal. When you find Duo, you must bring him back to the lab. I will remove both of your devices."

The Japanese pilot strained, the paper against the examination table crinkling under his movements. His mouth. The taste within his mouth was metallic, as if he's sucked on metal or copper pennies. It disgusted him. His eyes fully regained their abilities, allowing him to see that he was naked, and unclothed. "What did you put in me?" Heero asked emotionlessly. The doctor washed her hands over in the sink, the cool stream of bubbles running against her small, cupped hands. She slowly turned off the faucet, her eyes turning back to regard Heero. "I'm not sure of all the components, but I know one is Gundanium alloy..." Heero reached to grab his shirt, pulling it over his head. "What, you can't leave yet Heero! I need to make sure you get all the necessary shots!" Heero crafted an amused expression, sliding from off the table as his dark, brown hair brushed against his cold, stoic features. "Time has been wasted." With only those simple words he began moving towards the door. The doctor quickly protested, but just as her words were about to be uttered. Heero was gone. The boy just always seemed to vanish. In fact. It was almost as if, he'd never been there at all.

The answer? How should I provide an answer when the question isn't even apparently known to me? Heero took seize of a new vehicle, it was rather easy to escape the base, it seemed they wanted to let Heero out, especially after the abuse he dealt towards those who stood in the way of his mission. It was perhaps the first time Heero had a mission that was of his own personal nature. A mission that required the most out of him. For it didn't only ask for his skills, but his heart and his soul. Things Heero never believed were of any importance.

He reached the warehouse where his Gundam was stored; he pulled the car to a halt in front of the large door, pushing his aching body from out of the drivers seat. The wind was blowing heavily, a storm was beginning to rage out across the shoreline. It was going to be a damaging storm. The lightening was fiercely threatening everything in its path, and the ocean waves looked deadly under the pale light. Heero's gaze darted towards the warehouse door. Mainly towards who was standing in front of the door, Quatre. The Arabian boy was leaned against the wood, breathing softly. "Heero, you can't go out there yet," he tried to warn the boy. Heero approached Quatre, his features just as blank and ominous as ever. His fingers clenched to Quatre's shoulder, shoving him away from the door.

The blonde boy stumbled, trying to capture balance with heavy breathing, "Heero!" Heero made no response, his wounded, bleeding hands reaching to pull the door open. Quatre bit down on his leap, launching towards Heero as he called out, "Odin!" Heero froze holding the door, his fingers clawing into the wood. Quatre witnessed a strange sight; the wood was actually beginning to break under Heero's grasp.

      "Ah?"

His voice was so cold and distant, even as his eyes regarded Quatre. Heero's eyes, once a deep blue, were now metallic. Eyes filled with mercury where once color had inhabited. Quatre swallowed, "What happened to you? Your eyes... they're different..." "Yes, they are," Heero confirmed, pushing the door fully opened to step inside. Quatre followed, his feet numb, and sore with each step. "I read Danfar's reports. I managed to get them from the system files. Heero, I know what he wants and what he plans to do with you! It's insanity! You both are playing right into their scheme! I read on the chip, the chip they planned to insert in you and Duo. Heero the project is incomplete! It would kill you both! They're trying to recreate G.O.D.S! The perfect force, the perfect weapons and beings. Grown Organic Data Samples. Heero did you know your mother and father? Did Duo know his? Who are your parents! Hero, you and Duo-" "Are beings, with souls, and lives of our own," Heero interrupted, his eyes darkly fixed to Quatre. "I do not give a damn if I'm following their scheme. I don't care if I was grown in a lab or born of a woman's womb. I do not care if I have relation to ancient mythology or if I'm simply a bastard."

Heero's steps dragged closer to Quatre, his fingers soaked in blood, his steps staggering. "All I care about is getting back Duo. All that matters is that I claim him back. All the matters is seeing Duo give me his ridiculously stupid smile in the morning, claiming the shower at night and working for hours just to braid his hair. Tugging my arm to force me to go to a club and pulling faces at us when we play poker. All that matters is that I get that idiotic, *moronic*, braided baka back in my arms. Fuck Danfar, fuck the world, if I can't have him then damn it all to hell!"

Quatre's face reddened, his eyes opening wide as a soft smile began to touch his face. "I think that it wasn't planned for you to be let loose, and that it wasn't planned for the other Gundams to help you and Duo. They figured we all worked alone. The chip is controlled by remote. I'll get on the ship and go get the remote. You get Duo," Quatre took a few steps back towards the warehouse door, his hands pushing on it gently, "I want to see his ridiculous smile again as well." The Sandrock pilot gave a final parting smile, and pulled away to leave.

It must have been the chip. Heero knew he never would have said those words. He rubbed at his forehead. It was starting to hurt. Time is running out Heero, make haste. The ship is on the move. You must hurry before the storm arrives. The voice in his head didn't sound like his own. How did he know these things? Odin, was the side of him that was good, and filled with wisdom. And Duo's side, Shinigami, was dark, and filled with torment. Or... at least he believed Odin was good?

He pulled himself into Wing's cockpit, the mobile suit coming to life and powering up its engines. Heero claimed the controls easily. The device, he knew it was on. He could feel the power that now swelled within his mobile suit. The energy and exhilaration that tingled through his veins. He was one with Wing. It wasn't merely a mechanical bot. It was an extension of himself. A part of his body. It was alive. His blood runs through the Gundam, not merely oil and electrical circuits. He was Gundam Wing. He was Odin. He was pissed.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters. (Except for a few originals like Sakura) This is strictly fan fiction on the televised series Gundam Wing. It is for non-profit and I am in no way affiliated with it. (duh!) Purely entertainment based here. The Lyrics are from 3 Doors Down's cd "The Better Life", the song this is from is called "Life on my own". Really loving that song.
Aurthor's note: Ugh! Okay, so this chapter sucked too.

AFTER THOUGHTS: This chapter was done too slowly, I had to decide on how I wanted everything to tie in. And I decided that I should have Quatre play a big part on it. Sorry Wufei fans, I forgot to bring him in too! I originally had Wufei and Quatre in this fic working on this goal to help Heero together, but it didn't work with Wu's style. I was sad. Because I love Wu-baby!
