Whatever It Takes
Why did it take me so long to see it?
Now you're gone! I can't even hear you laugh!
I won't accept it! I won't let you die!
Even if I have to drag you from the grave
I want you with me.. I need you with me..
I.. I..
"No!" Quatre cried out, slamming his fist against the wall. Tears were streaming down his face as his legs began to weaken. His body began to bend as he slowly slumped towards the ground. His voice was weak, choking on his own tears as his green eyes stared towards the ceiling. "No! No! Duo!" He cried out, his fingers curving to claw at the wall. "It's.. my fault, it's my fault!" Trowa was standing near Quatre, leaning to gently touch Quatre's shoulder, an action to which Quatre flinched and backed away from him.
"Don't touch me Trowa! Just- don't touch me!" The Arabian boy continued to back away, moving further until his back touched against something. "If I had ran a background check on the facility earlier I would have seen the facility had no computer set up. I should have known! I should have noticed that it was a barracks! I should have known! Duo! Duo would still be alive!" The blonde boy practically screamed at Trowa, his head lolling back as tears continued to stain his face. His back was resting against Heero's legs, his eyes gaping up to the Wing pilot.
Wufei was standing behind Heero, his arms folded, but there was something lost in his gaze. Whatever ounce of light was in the Chinese boy was starting to diminish as he remained still, "The whole area was destroyed. All that's left is a blacken crater, surrounded by burnt trees, melted metals.. and charred bodies. Nothing survived, but Heero." Quatre lifted his hands to cover his face, bending his back forward to hide his face. Even Trowa was looking as if something pained him, and that was even a surprise to see such a look to his eyes.
I'll be damned if I sit here and listen to this. Heero began to slowly move past Quatre. His features cold, and impassive as he began to move down the hall. Quatre lifted a hand out towards Heero, rubbing his wet cheek as he called out, "Heero! I'm sorry!" Heero continued to walk ahead, "It was not your fault." "H-how can you be so calm about Duo's death?" "He's not dead," Heero replied simply, not even turning once to glance at the three. Wufei growled, kicking his foot against the wall, "Dammit Yuy! I looked, I saw the facility. Duo is dead! You can live in denial all you want, but that won't bring him back to life!"
The Wing pilot paused in his steps, keeping his back turned to them. "And I was there when it happened Wufei.." Heero turned to give them a side-glance over his shoulder. He was slowly building up his aggression. His anger, his taste, and need for revenge. "I was at the door to the facility." Quatre's eyes widened, "B-but, how did you survive?" "I tried to tell Duo that I was going to activate the device. I turned it on, and I saw the blast. Wing flew back with such speed, everything was a whirl. I found myself twenty miles away from the facility. Wing suffered no damage from the main blast. If I'm alive. Duo's alive," Heero continued towards his room.
Wufei yelling down the hall after him, "Did you ever think that the blast threw you back Yuy? What the hell are you going to do?" Heero slammed the door to his room shut, cutting off the conversation. He moved towards his desk, sliding his laptop from off it. He leaned down, reaching under his bed to collect his bag, placing the laptop into it. What am I going to do Wufei? I'll tell you want I'm going to do. I'm going to find Duo, even if he is dead I'm going to drag him from heaven or hell and bring him right back even if I have to sell my damned soul. Then I'm going to find the people who set us up and I'm going to empty four magazines from my gun into their fucking head!
"Out on my date Sakura had found some Gundanuim alloy-"
Heero lifted his bag; placing the green back, pack against his back as his steps lead him towards the window. Duo. I told you I'd get you back no matter what it takes. I'm not going to give up on you yet. Do you want to know why? Because I'm selfish. I need you Maxwell. And if anyone tries to get in my way, I'm going to run my dagger against his or her neck. He tightened his fist, enclosed in his palm was the picture of him and Duo together. It was undamaged by the blast. When he went back to the facility he found it lying in the middle of the crater, unburned, and he could only hope Duo survived just as that image had. He pushed back the curtains, the setting of the sun in plain view on the horizon as he began to climb out of it.
Heero found himself back outside of the same club he danced with Duo at. Once again, there was a long line, filled with people complaining, and begging to be let in. He could feel the clubs hot neon lights batter down against him, and smell the cigarette smoke on everyone's breath. Heero nudged his way past a few patrons, when they tried to protest, Heero turned a glare on them that seemed to make them back down. He was filled with a held rage, he was going to store up all of his anger, and pain, and once he found the one that set up the trap, he would release every, last, drop..
"It's just we work better as a pair. Because you know all my moves so well, you know what I'm going to do before even I do. I guess you just- work well with me."
The bouncer threw out his arm as Heero tried to move past him to get in. "Hey! You can't go in there!" The tall man grunted out, his eyes staring at Heero through thick sunglasses. Heero didn't see the purpose of wearing such things at night. Heero gritted his teeth slightly, his cold, cobalt eyes staring to the bouncer with precision. "I'm looking for Sakura," he said simply. "Who?" "The girl in red from the other night. She was with a boy that had a long braid." "Oh! Jir- Sakura! She ain't here." "Nani? What was that you were trying to say before?" "Look kid, she ain't here, move on!" "It sounded like Jir?" The bouncers patience was wearing thin, with a slothful movement he moved his hand to try and shove Heero, to which Heero threw out his arm in parry, twisting it around the man's arm to hold against his back. The man let out a curse as he winced. "Fuck!" The Bouncer kept repeating as he tried to kick his leg back to hit the boy. The line of people quickly began to rush into the club while Heero held the bouncer.
"You listen to me, and you better damn well listen good. Who is Jir?" "I'm not telling you, you lil' fuckin' prick!" Heero twisted his arm back more tightly without remorse. He knew just how to bring this man to tears; he knew exactly where to touch him to torture him with a stinging amount of unbearable pain. "Baka. Wrong answer." "F-fuck you!" Heero slid out his gun slowly from his bag, pressing the silencer gun firmly against the back of the mans leg. "Another wrong answer and I'll start off shooting your leg. No one will even hear me fire.." Heero told the man in a monotonous voice. "Ah! He-her name is Jiru! She's some sort of military person, fuck, I don't know! She's been around here trying to gather information on that stupid boy with the braid." "You know.. I wasn't going to shoot you.. until you called my Duo stupid.."
He pulled the trigger.
(-Body withered, body died, time to take away this life-)
Heero stood at the fountain cleaning his hand, rubbing them under the cool water as people walk along the small park path. Stupid bouncer. Heero had pulled the trigger, but he also knew his gun was empty. The man broke down and cried like a little child before he urinated his pants. He left the man to try and collect back his pride as a few passerby's pointed and laughed. It was something Duo would love to see.
Heero had done a background check through his laptop on all Jiru's in the area, and then he hacked into the system to run a check on all Oz military by that name. He managed to find one. Howard Jill. Jill pronounced in Japanese, Jiru. She was an American, and a spy for Oz. It suddenly made sense. She'd been carrying on a study of Duo since L2, she must have suspected him to be a Gundam pilot, and along the way had set up traps. Even the computer incident where he had to rescue Duo. Her picture looked very different from the candy apple girl in the club. For one, her hair was not raven black, it was red, and her crystal, blue eyes were really brown. He'd managed to slap around a few people, slap information on her whereabouts, and now he was here. Standing in the park from her apartment.
(-Bad enough to die from one, not to mention four or five-)
The Japanese boy proceeded into the apartment building, tapping the white button to call for the elevator before he stepped in. A fancy apartment for such a young girl. He almost had to wonder. The elevator was playing a slow, wordless tune, the lights reflecting on the copper, painted walls of the elevator. The smell of dust, heavy around him. For each floor he went up the elevator would ring. It came to a halt and floor five, the polished doors opening slowly to let Heero off. He stepped out, his foot making contain with the maroon, striped carpet. There were twenty rooms on the floor. Ten on each side of the wall. The lighting was poor, leaving the hall with a dim light as he moved towards room eighty-eight. He reached to turn the knob. He'd pick the lock if he had to. There was no need. The door opened right away. He slid his silencer from his bag, loading his gun quietly with soft clicks. He nudged the door open with his foot to behold the sight.
The apartment was a mess. The lamps were broken and laying against the floor with busted bulbs. Clothes were strung everywhere. The floor was wet, and sticky with trails of blood. In the back of the room the mirror near the dresser was shattered, and the dresser had all of it's draws hanging out. The room had been ransacked. The large window was wide open, the city lights pouring into the room as a cool wind blew in, ruffling the sheets of the bed. Against the bed was Jiru. She was wearing a light, pastel, and purple nightgown. One shoulder strap was torn, and the bottom of her dress was stained in blood. She had one hand clenching to a gun wound on her side, as she held a gun tightly in her other hand. She was breathing slowly, her eyes staring widely at the ceiling as she swallowed.
Heero held his gun, keeping it pointed at her as he stepped into the room, moving closer by the bed. He slowly reached out a hand, sliding the gun from her grasp. Her eyes gradually turned to focus to Heero, a smile breaking to her cracked, and dry lips. "You.. found me.." each word was said weakly as she winced, a stream of blood slowly staining her gums. The Wing Pilot kept his gaze cold, "Where is Duo?" "H-he took all of my report files you know. Everything. Oz will.. come in and make up some shit about me.. anything to cover their ass.." She coughed softly, her smile faint as her eyes remained to Heero. "Who took them?" "Danfar.. that's just like him too. He comes in, fucks me, tells me a job well done and shoots me.. I loved him so damn much.." She winced to her words, shivering as she focused to Heero.
"Danfar has Duo. I thought Danfar loved me.. but when I was with Duo he treated me better than Danfar ever did.." Heero growled lowly, "Who is Danfar?" "Danfar is the head.. administrator of espionage operations within Oz. He's just like you.. I knew that when Duo told me about you.." Heero lowered the gun to hold against her head, "I don't need to hear your stories, tell me how I can find Duo or I will fire." "I'm already dead Heero!" He yelled at him, her blood curdling in her mouth as she spit it against the sheets, showing him her wounds, "I- probably got another good five minutes before I die.." Heero placed his gun away, kneeling at her bedside slowly, his hands slicking over the wet sheets. "I have.. to find Duo.." Jiru lifted her arm weakly, pointing towards a potted plant on the balcony. "My.. security cards in there.. Duo's held in a faculty fifty miles north.. You can't miss it. I know you're smart.. that is all you need to know.." As Heero began to more, her hand reache dout to grasp his arm, "Y-you know what I'm talking about.. to love someone.. so much, and never tell em? I know you haven't told Duo.. I know it.. I never told Danfar.. if I had.. would I still be like this?" The Japanese pilot remained silent. Heero began to slowly stand from her side, watching her as her eyes slowly shifted to the ceiling, "Heero.." "..yes?" "Tell Duo.. that I loved the dress.. and that I'm sorry.." She coughed loudly, his hand reaching up to the ceiling as her back arched, blood spilled from her mouth slowly, "It's- so cold.. so cold.. Danfar.. ai.. ai shiteiru.." Her last breath was spent on her claim of love. Her fingers going lax as her body went limp. Her eyes rolled back as her lips were left parted. Jill Howard, was dead. Heero reached out his hand, closing her eyes as she laid still.
Jiru had been a spy. It was her fault.. to a degree. And yet, Heero couldn't hate her. He couldn't feel rage towards her. When he had come in planning to kill her, it turned out where he simply felt.. pity for her. A girl that had someone she thought loved her, and they were only using her. The only signs of kindness shown to her, was from Duo. Duo's alive. Duo.. hold on.. I'm coming..
(-"Welcome to my world," she said
"Do you feel alive?" she said.
"It's all a bad dream spinning in your lonely head"
"Welcome to my world" she said.
Separated world, she stayed separated
