Shrine to Naoko Takeuchi
Sailor Moon or Queen Serenity herself?
Sailor Moon or Queen Serenity herself? Probably not. Although she often says that Sailor Moon's personality was based off her own personality and the rest of the Sailor Senshi's came from the personalities of her friends. She also used astrology to build her characters personalities. But this page is to talk about the real person behind Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.
General Information about Naoko-sensei:
Name: Naoko Takeuchi
Birthdate: March 15th, 1967
Birthplace: Yamanashi, Japan
Sign: Pisces
Bloodtype: A
Favorite Color: Gold
Mangas: Love Call, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, Code Name is
Sailor V, Miss Rain, The Cherry Project, Maria, PQ Angels,
Naoko's Return to Society Punch!, etc.
When Naoko was in school her favorite subjects were math and art. She said that while in school she would write her own songs in her notebooks. She was educated to be a pharmacist at the Kyoritsu Institute of Pharmancy. Her hobbies include driving (she owns a Porshe and Ferrari), shopping, reading, collecting antiques, and being idle. She is in clubs such as the Astronomy Club and Art Club.
When she was 19 she got her first manga published called "Love Call". "Love Call" was a short shoujo love story. It was released in 1986. She then made other mangas similar until she made "Code Name wa Sailor V".This manga was about Sailor V (or Sailor Venus) in England fighting crime. Since this manga was becoming succesful at that time Naoko decided to make another manga similar but with more characters. Soon this manga was called "Bishoujo Senshi Seera Muun" (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon). As this manga became popular an anime was made of it. On March 6th, 1992, the first episode of Sailormoon aired. In January 1992 there was a preview of the show in Nakayoshi but was called "Bishoujo Senshi Seera V". At this time Naoko became well know for being the creator of Sailormoon and the anime was translated in many different languages all over the world. In 1993, Bishoujo Senshi Seera Muun won the Kodansh Comic Prize.
Often, while making her mangas she would get really sick. Thier were times when she wouldn't eat enough or even sleep. So she would have many fainting spells and get sent to the hospital. Her allergies would go crazy and she wouldn't be able to go to the hairdresser to get her hair cut. Naoko still had lots of support from her family and friends. Whenever she felt like quiting her editor, Osabu, would keep on encouraging to keep going. Her best friends come from the manga business. Like "Miss. M" and Yukari Ichijo (Queen) which is someone she admires a lot. Naoko even hopes that she is also an inspiration to others as well. Whenever she goes to an anime convention and speaks to her fans she often asks girls if they would want to become a manga artist as well.
After the Sailormoon manga and anime ended Naoko moved on to make another manga that was probably about to become just as popular as Sailormoon. It was called "PQ Angels". Unforunatly, the manga was never completed so it was abandoned after December 1997 when she stopped working for Nakayoshi. Ever since Kodansha Lt. lost her transcripts she decided to find another pubilsher that would let her make a different kind of manga. After that she decided to make a biographcial manga called "Princess Naoko's Return to Society Punch" . She made 4 different rounds of it. She released it in a magazine called "Young You". This manga was aimed at an older audience then her mangas before. Now she is currently running a manga called, "Princess and Prince's Marriage Punch" which she does with her husband, Yoshihiro Togashi.
Naoko and Yoshihiro Togashi got engaged on August 21, 1998 and married on January 6, 1999. Yoshihiro is a shounen manga artist that made popular mangas such as "Yu Yu Hakusho" and "Hunter X Hunter". They went to Turkey and Spain for thier honeymoon. They even released a doujinshi together and wedding calendars. The calendars were released at the Comic Convention in December. The calendars read, "January 6, 1999 Yoshihiro Togashi and Naoko Takeuchi celebrating thier wedding." It featured artwork from Sailormoon and Yu Yu Hakusho and had anniversaries marked:
First date: Nov. 19th
First Kiss: Nov. 27th
Engagement: Aug, 21th
Wedding: Jan, 6
Naoko has visited the U.S a few times for anime conventions or just to go sight seeing. When she went to New York she saw the DIC version of Sailor Moon and didn't like it that much. Mostly because she didn't like the voice of Sailor Moon. She thought that it was too deep. (refering to Terri Hawks). Unlike the original japanese seiyuu for Usagi, Kotono Mitsuishi, Naoko is a big fan of her voice acting. She also didn't like the american dolls except for the Queen Beryl doll.
Just recently, I've heard Naoko and Yoshihiro have a baby boy!
