Floating Island
Carrot led the Sorcerer Hunters to Garlic's Marina. Garlic was the client that Big Mama told them to meet with. He had been the only one to travel to the Floating Island and come back alive. He had disappeared for a while and then appeared again to work at the marina. Carrot looked around the piers. Tira was right behind him, also keeping watch. Carrot realized that she had stuck closer to him lately, probably wanting to keep a safe distance from Marron. It was not that she hated Marron. The exact opposite was true. It's just she could not stand to be near him right now. Carrot did not approve of his younger brother's behavior. Since Tira had suddenly tossed Marron to the curb, Marron was not in the world's best mood. He often snapped at Tira or Carrot. He didn't do it often enough for Chocolate or Gateau to notice, but Carrot noticed. Tira probably did too.
Carrot found a young man with brown hair streaked with white sitting on the dock. Immediately, Carrot approached him. "Hello I am Carrot Glace, the heartbreaker of the Spooner Continent. Are you Garlic?"
"I am. Are you the sorcerer hunters?"
"At your service." Carrot replied.
Gateau asked, "Have you really been to the Floating Island?"
Garlic nodded. "And back again."
"So why did you call us?" Marron asked.
"I need to go back there. There is something terribly wrong happening on that island. You see, I went there with my fiancée, Vanilla. As most tourists are, we were invited to a party by the rich lord of the island. Naïve as we were, we went. The lord seemed to take a liking to my beautiful Vanilla."
"Then she went with him and never returned with you." Finished Marron.
"Yes."
"Don't worry. We plan to stop this evil lord." Gateau vowed.
"But to do so we must go to that island. Will you take us?" Marron asked the young man. Garlic thought. He had sworn never to return to that wretched island. However, if he could somehow get his beloved Vanilla back, he was willing to try.
"Yes. I will take you. Hop aboard my ship. We will leave right away."
Garlic set sail with the sorcerer hunters as soon as he could. He closed down the marina, hanging up a sign that read, 'Closed until further notice'. Soon they were out on the open sea. "The Floating Island was last seen going west off the coast of Gardenia. Hopefully it hasn't changed direction yet." Garlic informed the others.
Carrot stood by the edge holding his head over the side of the boat. His face had turned an eerie green color and he held his stomach tightly. Chocolate glanced at him with concern. "Poor Darling. Is he going to be all right?" She asked Marron who was standing right beside her.
"I wouldn't worry, Chocolate." His tone was hardly sympathetic.
They didn't know how long it took, but soon the boat sailed parallel to an island that seemed to be moving with the current. Garlic explained, "The island has nothing to hold it to the earth, so it moves across the open sea. Come on. Drop anchor." Garlic grabbed the large, metal anchor and instead of tossing it into the bottom of the sea, he threw it on the beach of the mainland. Now the boat was hooked to the island. Where ever the island sailed, it sailed.
The island was a tropical paradise. Many people were on the island probably natives, but many were tourists as well. Tira wondered how there got to be so many tourists on the island when the island had such a sinister legend surrounding it. As Tira looked around she did not notice the man who walked up behind her. He tapped her on the shoulder, and surprised, she turned.
"Hello. My name is Sardine. Welcome to the island."
"Oh, hello. My name is Tira. Pleased to meet you."
"I would have to say that you are stunningly beautiful."
"I am?" Tira was taken aback by Sardine's sudden compliment and his forwardness.
Sardine nodded. "Tell me, beautiful lady, do you have a boyfriend?"
"No." She answered sadly. She had one, the best guy she could ever dream of, but she threw it away like an old shoe. She thought about Carrot and how good to her he was being. He was a true friend. Marron hadn't said a word to her in a long time, except to make a remark here and there.
"I'm astonished. You must join me at the party that's being held tonight. It is a welcome party for all the new tourists. Say you will go." Sardine held out an invitation printed on orange paper. She took it and stared at it carefully. "I must be going. I hope to see you there. If you do come, save a dance for me." As he left, Tira thought about how charming the man was.
Chocolate walked around the people enjoying their vacation time. The hunters had split up, as usual, trying to find clues to who their sorcerer may be. Chocolate did not want to leave Darling to look alone, knowing it was not clues he'd be looking for. As Chocolate thought about it more, she grew more and more angry. Soon, she wasn't looking for clues either; she was looking for Carrot. That's when a man walked up to her, catching her by surprise.
"You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." The man said, looking deep into her eyes. Chocolate blushed at the sudden compliment.
"Oh. Well, thank you."
"It is I who should thank you for allowing me to be in your presence."
"Oh, well…" Chocolate began to giggle, which the man took as a good sign.
"My name is Sardine. I would like to welcome you to the island." His white hair fell in clumps across his forehead, hiding much of his face. He pushed some of it out of the way, and if Chocolate had been paying attention instead of going all gushy over Sardine's charm she would have seen the sorcerer's mark. "I would be honored if you would attend the party tonite. It is for all the tourists." Sardine handed Chocolate an invitation printed on orange paper. "If you do come, save a dance for me." He kissed her hand lightly, then walked away.
"You both got invited? Why didn't we get invited?" Carrot asked, looking at Chocolate and Tira's invitations. The sorcerer hunters had joined together at Jacfu's Cabana, a popular place for tourists to hang out. Garlic looked at the invitations and informed them that it was the same invitation that Vanilla was given on their trip to the island.
"Then we are all definitely going." Gateau said. "It's party time."
So naturally, the sorcerer hunters and Garlic went to the party. The party was held on the outskirts of town in a large mansion, further evidence that Sardine was the sorcerer. While looking for the sorcerer, the group split up. Gateau and Marron walked around, looking over the premises. Chocolate hit the dance floor, and Carrot hit the bar. Tira sat alone at a table, pondering her thoughts.
Carrot approached Tira, who looked a little sad. "Don't look so sad, Tira. Come dance with me." Carrot held his hand out to the pink haired girl. Tira was reluctant, but soon found herself on the dance floor with Carrot. "See? That wasn't so hard. Don't be afraid to have a good time, even if we are on assignment."
Marron watched Carrot and Tira dance as an unfamiliar emotion came over him. Was it jealousy? Envy was a petty thing and he pushed it out of his mind. Tira was free to do whatever she wanted, he reminded himself. It was none of his concern.
Gateau turned to Marron and said, "According to Tira and Chocolate's description that would be him." He pointed at a white haired man talking with a young girl.
Marron saw the girl blush as the man pulled her out on the dance floor. "No doubt he's quite a charmer. What is he up to?"
"Who knows, but that's the 3rd girl I've seen him with tonite. Carrot should probably take some lessons." Marron smiled at Gateau's joke. Then the longhaired bishouen looked around the room.
"Maybe more. The male/female ratio is becoming quite large." Searching the room again, they noticed that there were fewer ladies in the room. Guys stood in groups talking as if they hadn't realized their dates had disappeared.
Chocolate stood in the archway. Her black silk dress clung to her leg as she tapped her foot fiercely. She had also seen Carrot dancing with Tira and she was fuming. Smoke was coming out of her ears and she was ready to explode. She had been oblivious to the signs of her Darling making a move on Tira. Sure, he was playing a supportive friend in a time of crisis, but Chocolate knew Darling always had an ulterior motive. She had wondered why he was so interested in where Tira and Marron were at the carnival. She had ignored when Carrot put his arms around her consoling her after just breaking up with her wonderful mage. Now as she saw Carrot moved his hand from Tira's waist to her buttocks her eyes popped out of her head. If Tira hadn't slapped Carrot in the face just then, she would've maimed them both.
"He's with another girl now." Gateau pointed out.
"This guy is good." Marron said.
"Let's get him." The pair were just about to walk up to Sardine who was with yet another pretty lady when an angry red faced Chocolate moved in front of them, not only forbidding their passage, but blocking their vision.
" Chocolate…" Gateau began. Chocolate grabbed Marron's arm.
"Come on, Marron."
There had been a time when Carrot's affection would have overjoyed Tira. Being with Marron had now changed that. She didn't realize it then, but she did now. Carrot had been her protector as a child, her friend, and her crush. He had been everything she had wanted in a guy-or so she thought. Now the more she ran it over and over in her head, she knew she had made a mistake. Was it too late for her and Marron now? Even as she thought this, she felt Carrot pull her head to his chest. She leaned against him awhile and imagined, for a moment that all was right in her life.
Chocolate pulled Marron out on the dance floor in clear view of Carrot and Tira. Marron had never seen her so angry before- not even when Carrot was trying to sleep with another girl. Then he saw Carrot's hand on roaming around Tira's body and he understood why. He was just about to go over there himself when he felt a small hand grab his butt.
" Chocolate!" His eyes widened and he looked into her face. She had a purpose now, and Chocolate was so angry she was willing to do anything.
"Marron, will you stay with me tonite? Just for awhile?"
Marron was stunned at her suggestion. Clearly she was not thinking straight. Chocolate began to lead them into a dance, making sure that she was in view of her rivals. Marron had enough. He pushed her away. "Chocolate, this is foolish. I will not be involved in your jealousy towards Tira."
Chocolate watched Marron walk away and she wanted to scream at him. He was right, though, it was unfair to involve him. She just wanted to hurt Tira. Hurt her badly as Tira was hurting her now. She had seen that although Tira slapped Darling's hand away, she had leaned against him, but then Chocolate saw the look on Tira's face when she danced with Marron, and was satisfied.
"What the hell was that all about?" Gateau asked an angry Marron as he returned to their spot.
Marron ignored the question. "Where's Sardine?"
"He went down the hall with another girl. I say we follow him." Gateau and Marron went down the hall in search of Sardine.
The halls were dark and quiet, but the two sorcerer hunters followed the sound of female chattering until they came to a locked door. Gateau put his ear to the door and confirmed that it was the place. Marron easily unlocked the door using the edge of an ofuda. When the door was opened, the room behind it was packed with young girls. There was barely enough room for them all as they pushed each other for space. The girls stared at them blankly.
Sardine clanged a fork on his glass to get the room's attention. After he was positive that everyone had his or her eye on him he raided his glass to propose a toast. "I would like to thank you all for coming to this gallant affair…" Then a chorus of female voices caught his attention. The noise was coming from around the corner and Sardine was afraid to even look. "Oh no. They couldn't have." He muttered as a stampede of women plowed Down Sardine and beat on him repeatedly. Chocolate, Carrot, and Tira stared at the door where Marron and Gateau entered.
Carrot looked up at the sorcerer. "Wow, all those women. What a lucky guy."
"Carrot, you pervert!" Tira promptly punched him in the face. "I'll show you lucky."
"Darling! I'll kill you!" Chocolate joined Tira in the beating.
Garlic looked thru the pile of girls but did not see her dear Vanilla. He turned to Gateau and Marron for help only to see them smile. Each stepped aside to make way for a beautiful blond haired girl full of tears. "Vanilla!"
"Garlic!" She ran into his arms and he held her tightly.
"I thought I'd never see you again."
"You should've known I'd never leave you." Vanilla told her fiancé.
"I was a fool. I saw you with that monster and thought you didn't want me anymore. I wish I had known."
"I don't want to hear another word about it. Now kiss me."
Gateau smiled. "Ah, look at them. Together again."
"Now they can get married as they had planned." Marron added.
"And Chocolate and Tira are beating up Carrot."
"Then I'd say everything is back to normal." Gateau could not help but notice the melancholy in Marron's voice.
"Should we defeat the sorcerer?"
"I'd say the ladies are doing just fine."
Sardine's scream could be heard across the island.
