Jeri's Secret Admirer
'Okay, no one is going to stop me from finding out who Jeri's secret admirer is.' Takato was once again out in the hallway the next day waiting near Jeri's locker. He looked around the area seeing no one around yet.
Footsteps soon filled the hallway. Takato peeked around the corner from where he was hiding. Jeri's secret admirer soon arrived at her locker with a note in his hands. Takato was shocked to see who it was.
"Kazu?!"
****
"Hey guys where's Takato, Kenta, and Kazu?" Jeri asked her friends.
"Kenta said he was going to the restroom, Kazu has detention again and I think Takato was going to help out a teacher." Henry said, covering for Takato.
"Kazu has detention again? What did he do this time?" Mikki asked.
"He was late for his last detention." Henry answered.
"Typical. That is so like the idiot." Rika replied taking a bite out of her
cookie that she brought for break.
"So Jeri, any new news from your boyfriend? I am dying to know who he is!"
Mikki once again teased her friend.
"No, I haven't gotten a note from him yet. Maybe I'll get it at later."
****
"Alright Kazu, you have some explaining to do!" Takato yelled at his friend and pointing a finger at him. "You know I like Jeri so what do you think you're doing?!" Takato was raging mad.
"Geez, calm down chumly. Just let me talk okay?"
"Fine, I'm listening." Takato backed off for now.
"Let's go to the bathroom so no one eavesdrops on our conversation, okay?"
"Fine." Takato stompped off towards the bathroom with Kazu right behind him, well a couple of feet behind him. Kazu didn't know what Takato was capable of.
"Okay, we're here. Now EXPLAIN!" Takato's face was red with anger.
"Okay! Okay! You don't have to yell. It was kinda like a joke on the two of
you. I was writing those notes to get you and Jeri together."
"I can't believe-- wait what?" Takato was a bit surprised. "How is writing
love notes to Jeri going to bring us together?"
"No offense--" A noise was heared from one of the stalls. "Oh crap! I don't think, we're alone here come on." Kazu grabbed Takato's right arm and pulled him out of the restroom.
The flushing of a toilet was heard and Kenta stepped out of the stalls. "Man, poor Jeri. Those two playing a joke on her. It'll break her heart, but she needs to know the truth." Kenta washed his hands and headed out of the restroom.
****
"That was close!" Kazu was panting very hard from high tailing out of the bathroom.
"You still haven't told me why you did it." Takato said a bit annoyed.
"Okay-" Once again the two were interrupted, this time by the bell. Break was over. "Crap! I missed detention! Now I'm going to have to serve lunch detention! Look Takato, I'll explain everything after school okay?"
"Grr, fine." Takato went inside his class room. Kazu went in after him.
Jeri and her friends were all coming in from break. Kenta ran up to Jeri. "Jeri! There's something you need to know!"
"Can it wait Kenta? We have class now." Jeri said.
"Okay, I'll tell you at lunch."
"Actually you can't. I have lunch duty today remember? I have to help serve lunch."
"Oh, then I'll tell you after school then okay?"
"Sure." She smiled at her friend. The two of them went in.
The tardy bell rang and all the students were in their seats.
"Kazu, I missed you at break detention. Where were you?" Miss Asagi asked him tappin her foot.
"I uh..." Kazu was at a lost of words. He couldn't exactly tell his teacher that he was out playing matchmaker for his friends.
"It's lunch detention for you." She said.
"Aww man!" Kazu slammed his head on his desk.
'Serves you right Kazu.' Takato thought, obviously still mad at Kazu.
****
"Alright, school's over. I'm waiting." Takato was in the school hallway waiting for Kazu's explanation.
"I know you Takato. You would never have the guts to go out there and ask a girl out. Sure you head into a battle against the D-Reaper but you won't ask the girl you're crazy for to the dance. So I decided to take it into my own hands. I thought that if I wrote the letters then you would go and ask her out before you lost her. But then I decided to have you be the 'note writer'. I was gonna tell you about my plan today anyway."
"So you were just trying to get me to ask Jeri out?"
Kazu nodded. "I would never take Jeri from you. You're one of my best friends."
"Thanks Kazu." The two boys were about to leave the school when they saw Jeri and Kenta talking. "Hey, what's Kenta doing?"
Jeri and Kenta turned their heads to see Kazu and Takato. Jeri looked like she was crying. When she saw Takato she ran away.
"Jeri come back!" Kenta yelled after her.
"Kenta what did you do to the poor girl? Did you tell her one of your knock-knock jokes?" Kazu said.
"You two should know. You two were playing a mean trick on Jeri with those love notes." Kenta said a bit angered.
"Jeri!" Takato went after her.
"Argh! Kenta we weren't playing a trick on her, I was trying to get Takato to ask her out! You knucklehead!" Kazu yelled at his friend.
"Really?"
"Yeah you doofus! Now she's going to hate him forever!"
****
"Jeri wait! Let me explain!" Takato soon caught up to the girl.
Jeri stopped and turned around to face Takato with tears running down her cheeks. "Explain what?! That you and Kazu were trying to trick me?!"
"It's not like that. Jeri, I really really like you."
"No don't say that! You don't mean that!"
"But I do!" Takato was crying now too.
"Stop lying! Just stop!" Jeri yelled in his face and then ran away.
"Jeri..." Takato was left alone. Alone with his tears and his guilt.
