Treize Kushrenada's former second in command is now the earth sphere's Minister of Prevention. In June of AC 197, after a fairly intense legal battle, she was finally allowed to adopt Mariemeia, although the child kept her father's surname. Despite having no idea how to raise a child, Lady Une has consistently done her best--though her packed schedule does not permit much time for family life.
When the Preventers were officially designated ESUN's peacekeeping and defense force, they were given strict limits as to the level of military power they were allowed to maintain. Following the Barton Foundation's attempted Coup, these standards were revised somewhat, but not enough, in Une's opinion, to ensure ESUN's government against another revolt. To her intense surprise Foreign Minister Relena Darlian reluctantly agreed, and together the two women quietly pushed through legislation that allowed for "research and testing" of new defense methods. The extent of the leeway granted the Preventers was downplayed to the general public, much to Relena's discomfort, but these changes allowed Une to build up a significantly stronger defense force.
Still, despite all of this, Preventer is a government agency. Like much of ESUN's burocracy, most of the departments' affairs get bogged down in political red tape, creating a dangerous lack of communication within the organization's top ranks. Lady Une is aware of this and does her best to combat such a disturbing trend, but even she can only handle so much at any given time.
