wind Sword Name: Sword of the Wind God
Japanese Name: Fuujin (wind god) no Ken (sword)
Introduced: Volume 1, Chapter 9
History: Occording to Onimaru's grandfather, this sword has existed since the Edo Period, perhaps even earlier. The legend passed down with this sword declared that whoever was able to control the wind god possessing the sword would become an unbeatable, unequalled swordsman.
Role in the Story: Onimaru stumbled upon a hidden basement in his house in which this sword was found while he was training, and his grandfather explained the history of the sword. His grandfather used the sword as a challenge for Onimaru, hoping that it would put him in his place for being too arrogant. Unfortunately, Onimaru managed to figure out how to use the sword and was taken over by the god of wind who possesses the sword, thereby growing horns and becoming a demon.


thunder Sword Name: Sword of the Lightning God
Japanese Name: Raijin (thunder god) no Ken (sword)
Introduced: Volume 2, Chapter 3
History: According to Yaiba's father, Kenjuurou, this is the legendary sword of evil. In Japanese, the distinction between thunder and lightning seems to be more vague than in English, which is why it is written as the sword of the thunder god, yet lightning is the power that it has. Like the sword of the wind god, this can (supposedly) only be controlled by the legendary samurai. Miyamoto Musashi has lived for four hundred years acting as a guard for this sword, waiting for the legendary samurai to appear. The arm that was attached to the sword belonged to the god of lightning. The arm was cut off by the wind god when the two were fighting.
Role in the Story: According to Kenjuurou, the only way to win against the sword of the wind god was to use the sword of the lightning god. Thus, Yaiba (as well as Sayaka, Kagetora, and Shounosuke) set out on a journey to Tengu Peak to find Miyamoto Musashi, the old man who had the sword. Yaiba was able to pull out the sword and called out the lightning god for a fight and apparently lost, thus losing control of himself. The god took over Yaiba and wreaked havoc on Tengu Peak until -You'll find out when the chapter is translated. ;)-
