Chibi
Style Heero
Chibi style is usually used in dipicting extreme emotions, very small pictures, doujinshi (fan comics), and doodling! SD/Super Deformed/Chibi style is basically a charicature of the character...in a very small size. There are many different ways to approach drawing chibi. Just lemme give a few tips before steps.
Tips: The most important features should be emphasized in chibi-style. Eyes, hair, and clothes are some defining characteristics. Take a look at my example below. On the left is a screen shot of Heero. The right is a super deformed version. The key is to simplify. |
You can see it's the same pose. But the SD form, there's not a lot of detail in the clothes, hair, or features. Heck, the eyes don't even look like Heero's! And the hands don't really have fingers. (Fingers are details. ;))
Steps v. 2
1. I start with my circle and cross again. The only difference is that the mid-line doesn't go down as far as it did in the 'serious' drawing.
2. The jaw line. I start at the left side of the circle, pause at the 'chin point' then start back up to the right side. There's his face.
3. Features are next. This chibi is going to have eyes that almost look like Heero's 'real' eyes. The nose is two dashes signifying a shadow of where the nose is. The mouth is going to be a straight line for this picture.
4. The hair is next. I just put the basic pattern of how it looks. Getting the major spikes in. |
Proportions: Chibi is Japanese for "Child". Therefore, in SD/Chibi style, the head will be larger than the body. Also, keep the features pretty close together and the eyes should be large. (Large eyes=innocence).
Now
normally, Chibis can be sketched really quickly and really
easily. ;) Check out this .gif below that I've made. It's me
drawing Heero! It's kawaii!
