There wasn't anything dangerous about Harry Potter. Nothing that Hagrid could see. No fangs, no claws. Just a tiny human boy. Not at all the sort of creature Hagrid was usually interested in. He let his large hand run over Harry's shoulders as the boy looked through a book idly.

"Hey Hagrid," the dark haired boy began, "Why do you like such dangerous creatures, anyway? I mean, are they really worth the risk?"

Hagrid, who'd snatched his hand away when the boy had first began talking (though he didn't know why, wasn't like he as doing anything wrong to him) thought about that for a moment.

"Well, I don't rightly know," he said, "I guess it's sumthin' to do with the trust. If I can get the animal ter trust me, I feel right proud about it. And when a dangerous animal trusts yeh, it...always seems like it trusts yeh more completely than a nice creature would."

Harry thought about that for a moment, and Hagrid took that time to stare at the boy. "Do you like any creatures that aren't dangerous?"

Hagrid studied the boy for a moment. What he wanted, he knew he couldn't have. "Just one," he said finally, painfully, sadly.
