Story Mode Characters
Below is a list of the base twelve characters you can play as in Story Mode or fight with in Versus Mode. I have also included the pilot on the game and mobile suit’s first appearance in a Gundam series, movie, manga, or game.
Wing Gundam
Pilot: Heero Yuy
First Appearance: Gundam Wing
Piloted by a boy, code-named Heero Yuy, the Wing Gundam is meant for use on Earth. It can transform into a winged "Bird Mode," allowing it to survive re-entry and fly in Earth’s atmosphere. It also has a very powerful buster rifle.
Zaku II
Pilot: Denim
First Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam
Piloted by Denim of the Duchy of Zeon, the Zaku II was the first military Mobile Suit and it is the backbone of the Zeon’s Mobile Suit forces. It can be used both in space and on Earth. Various additional models were based on this Mobile Suit.
Zeong
Pilot: Char Aznable
First Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam
The Zeong is the last and biggest Mobile Suit created by the Duchy of Zeon. Designed for use by NewType pilots, the Zeong can separate into several remote-controlled units that attack independently.
Sazabi
Pilot: Char Aznable
First Appearance: Char’s Counterattack
Piloted by Char Aznable as he was leading the Neo Zeon. The Sazabi, although huge and heavily armored, is still fast and highly maneuverable. It is designed for use by NewType pilots and can attack with six small remote-controlled weapons called "Funnels."
Q-Mantha
Pilot: Ple Two
First Appearance: Gundam ZZ
Piloted by Ple Two, a clone of the character Elpe Puru, the Quin Mantha is armed with built-in shoulder mounted Mega Particle Cannons and remote-controlled "Funnels." It is also protected by a defensive Bubble Shield.
Full Armor ZZ Gundam
Pilot: Judau Ashta
First Appearance: Gundam ZZ
This suit is piloted by Judau Ashta, a member of the resistance group AEUG (Anti-Earth United-Nation Government). Like the original RX-78 Gundam, it can separate into three components and can also transform into a single large fighter. It’s armed with an arsenal of powerful beam weapons.
Hy-Gogg
Pilot: Mikhail Kaminsky
First Appearance: Gundam 0080
This is piloted by Mikhail Kaminsky of the Duchy of Zeon, the second most senior member of the Cyclops Team. This Mobile Suit is an improved version of the MS-03 Gog, with beam cannons installed on the ends of its long flexible arms.
The-O
Pilot: Paptimus Scirocco
First Appearance: Z Gundam
This is piloted by Paptimus Scirocco, a captain of the Jupiter Energy Fleet, who joins the Titans in Z Gundam. The-O is equipped with a bio-sensor, an experimental control system that can only be used by NewType pilots. Beware of its hidden hands!
GP-02A
Pilot: Anavel Gato
First Appearance: Gundam 0083
The Gundam GP02A (codenames Unit 02 and Gundam "Physalis") is piloted by Lt. Commander Anavel Gato of the Delaz Fleet. This Mobile Suit was developed to use strategic nuclear weapons. It is armed with an atomic bazooka and protected by heavy armor and powerful cooling systems. It was stolen by renegade Zeon soldiers from an Earth Federation base in Australia, where it was to undergo testing in Earth’s gravity.
Acguy
Pilot: Akahana
First Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam
Piloted by Akahana of Duchy of Zeon, the Acguy is powered by a pair of Zaku reactors, giving it a relatively low power exhaust output compared to other Mobile Suits. This makes the Acguy hard to detect with infrared sensors, so it is ideally suited for infiltration and reconnaissance missions.
Quebeley
Pilot: Haman Karn
First Appearance: Z Gundam
Piloted by Haman Karn, leader of the renegade Zeon’s base at the asteroid Axis, the Quebeley appears in Z Gundam and ZZ Gundam. The Quebeley is the first regular size Mobile Suit to have a Psycommu system, a device which lets NewType pilots like Haman use remote-controlled weapons. It’s equipped with a dozen remote beam guns called “Funnels,” which it can use to attack an enemy from all directions.
Z Gundam
Pilot: Kamiru Bidan
First Appearance: Z Gundam
Piloted by Kamiru Bidan of the resistance group AEUG (Anti-Earth United-Nation Government) in Z Gundam, the Z Gundam can transform into a "Wave Rider" mode, allowing it to re-enter the atmosphere. This Mobile Suit was improved greatly by installing biosensors in the control system.
Boss Mobile Suits
There are four boss characters in Gundam Battle Assault and they are all playable as hidden characters in Versus Mode only.
Big Zam
Pilot: Dozle Zabi
First Appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam
One of the biggest and most powerful mobile armor developed by the Principality of Zeon during the One Year War, the prototype MA-08 Big Zam saw combat during the Battle of Solomon.
Neue Ziel
Pilot: Anavel Gato
First Appearance: Gundam 0083
Designed late during the One Year War, the highly advanced AMA-X2 Neue Ziel mobile armor was never built before the war's end. Instead, remnant Zeon forces who escaped to the asteroid base Axis took the plans with them, where it would later be constructed by the Axis forces. When another remnant Zeon force, the Delaz Fleet, began its "Operation Stardust" against the Earth Federal Forces in UC 0083, Axis sent an advance fleet out to support Delaz. Their support came in the form of rescue and retrieval of Delaz's surviving troops, as well as a new mobile armor: the Neue Ziel, now designated AMX-002.
Psycho Gundam Mk III
Pilot: Valdor Farkill
First Appearance0: Gundam the Battle Master 2
A massive mobile suit with powerful arsenal.
Hydra Gundam
Pilot: Treize Kushrenada
First Appearance: Gundam Wing G-Unit
Boss mode suit of the game, first seen in the manga Gundam Wing Dual Story: G-Unit.

Hidden characters that can be unlocked and played in Versus Mode only. They lack Mega Special Attacks, but that does not take away from their fun play value.
