Ein is unusually smart...
While a normal Welsh Corgy dog is only worth about 2 wulong in the Cowboy Bebop world, Ein is worth much, much more. He is a government "data dog": an unusally smart dog who can learn to do almost anything. And it shows too: Ein has a tendency to answer phones, and gets attention to people he calls over the phone by barking at them. He's also been known to save a few lives: when Jet was about to be hypnotized into being a mindless slave for a cult, Ein snapped him out of the trance by biting his leg.
Of course, it's not all good being a data dog. Poor Ein is constantly tortured aboard the Bebop. Spike ignores him and Faye has a tendency to use him as a pillow, and she's even stolen his food on occasion! It would appear the only two crew members who really care about Ein are Jet and Ed, whom he left the Bebop to reside with after her departure.
KEY EIN EPISODES:
Session 2: "Stray Dog Strut"-->First Ein
Session 23: "Brain Scratch"-->Ein's true intelligence shown
Session 24: "Hard Luck Women"-->Ein leaves Bebop with Ed
DEFINING MOMENT:
Gah! A device is leading humans to become mindless zombies! What does Ein do? Well, first, he snaps Jet free of the control by chomping down on his leg, saving Jet's life. Second, he gets hooked up to the net and navigates the menu's freely and with an ease greater than Ed's, unaffected by the sites hypnotic waves. (Session 23: "Brain Scratch")
