"s’peEd" is an introduction to this
rave party, getting it kicking with a bang. As the keyboard can be
heard in the background typing in the opening command and the enter
button loudly pressed we are thrown off the starting block and into
the middle of this techno rich, danceland.
The re-vamping of the
highly popular opening song "Duvet" by the English band ‘BOA’
is highly effective, moving the already highly danceable bet to a
more beefy level, as the song is re-arranged with different
instruments and obvious computer influence while playing at about
the same tempo as the original song. It is a true testament to the
success of the song after already having indured the original
version, acoustic, tvsized and now this remix and still working with
a passion on every-level.
‘Here, the revolution’
is repeated over and over again to stir the crowd into a frenzy of
dance-induced madness as the enjoyable beats continue to beat out of
the stereo system and into your skull as you are told to get on the
dancefloor for some fun and scream. "professed intention and real
intention" is definitely a highly enjoyable all club
mix.
"antidepressant
o44" is upbeat techno track, with a light percussion running
throughout the piece.
"psychedelic
farm" starts off as a sedate dance track, like the natives of
Africa dancing around a fire, not unlike you as you find yourself
grooving to this repetitive yet enjoyable track.
"invisible
file" lacks any sort of audio structure as beats, notes and
precussions are everywhere in your ears at once yet it succeeds in
setting a state of confusion which in itself can be effective. But
overall its a track that you’ll either love or get on your
nerves.
"prayer" is
probably the most obvious audio track as it seems to follow the more
conventional structure of music which, apart from this track,
"Chabo" has stayed away from such thinking. A nice mix of acoustics,
whispered lyrics and fast yelled rap words mix successfully together
over the background noise of dolphins and surf, which could also be
the sound of electricity which the lain series so regularly
promoted. This song will get you more down off the wild-dance state
that the previous tracks have instilled and will continue to slow
you down to a slow groove, letting you feel the music around you as
its slower and more soothing notes are given to you in the brilliant
style that "Chabo" instills in his music.
"Island in Video
Cassette" is a trance track with a low-key embellishments with
definite waves calmly caressing the shore. You obtain a easy and
well-placed feeling as the beat seems to enduce the feeling of
freedom and relaxation which is easy to lap up and sway
to.
"K.I.D.s" works best as another trance music track,
but decisively more upbeat than the previous track with its
unvarying beat and nondescript melody. But the word ‘lain...’ can be
hear at the start through the raspy and quiet voice.
"Cloudy with
occasional rain" often sounds as if a preacher teaches his
lessons in an unknown language. Another enjoyable but more uplifting
beat is again succeeded instilling more interesting things with its
percussion, weaving symbols in and out of the drum track.
"INFANITy world" is probably my favorite track for
this album and one of the nicest songs I’ve heard in a long time. It
sounds like techno poetry, its lyrics beautiful and deep in their
telling as the chorus rings out "Where am I vanishing into?" Truly,
into a dark, calm layer.

this slow punk poetry extravaganza.
While not entirely
necessary, the CD is raped up with the TV opening sized version of
the song that started the series catapult to fame, "Duvet".
It is a little disappointing only as it finishes just as you were
getting into the flow of BOA, but it definitely leaves a nice after
taste from listening to this fantastic album.
As for extras, the
liner notes come in form of a double-sided mini-poster that's folded
up in a cardboard sleeve. One side of the poster features a larger
version of the cover image of Lain at the Club Cyberia DJ table and the lyrics to
"INFANITy
world." The other side has a picture of Lain and Myu-Myu, along with
a track listing, album credits, and a tiny ad for BOA's "Race of a Thousand Camels"
album. Also included are self-adhesive stickers for
decoration.
All in all, this very
danceable and somewhat addictive track seems to instill a religious
love for the music as the series did, that was based on the
religious following and belief in the god of the wired. So if you
are a true lover of Lain, or just a lover of upbeat music, this
album is sure to please all, even those who cant stand Japanese
animation because of the subtitles!
