NEW MEDIA 2

Isaac Hayward, u109282

Tutor: Mitchell Whitelaw

Over the next two months before my departure for Japan I will accomplish the following with the use of Maya:

·  Create two fully designed and developed characters

·  Animate the characters to a scene.

·  Place the characters in a living environment.

·  Complete the scene of animation so that the viewer will want to see the completion of the movie as a whole.

·  Host the animation on a website to promote the animation and myself for employment purposes.

SCENE DISCRIPTION

Based on a movie idea I have been working on for the last 10 years, the scene is one of the many excellent moments that I believe require me to excel in not only all technical areas of Maya, but also as a story-teller, engaging the audience on emotional levels.

A more action driven moment of the movie, this short scene is when the main characters are destined to meet. One the hunted, the other, the hunter. As he runs from a burning village, the young archer must stand his ground if he is to escape the deadly blow of his pursuer, a young female. I hope I will have time to create the external cast, a horse and a dragon-hawk (A creature of my own creation), however time limits might force me to cut back on the mechanics I original had in mind for this scene.

The designs of these characters have already been finalized and can be seen below. They are currently underway with creation in Maya.

SCHEDULE

Week 3: Basic shell of Characters complete.

Week 4: Fully clothed and textured character complete.

Week 5: Basic testing of character animation. (Also class presentation of tests.)

Week 6: Have animation complete for use in the scene.

Week 7: Complete the final environment. Look at After Effects for possible improvement

  of action, environment and atmosphere.

Week 8: Integrate all elements of the animation together flawlessly, and have the

animation exported as an .avi file.

Week 9: Design of the website and uploading of all relevant material.

Week 10: Final tweaking of all project elements and handing it in.

As this project is a continuation of the one begun last semester, many of the techniques needed to create this animation are already know to me. However, there is always more you need to know and more training necessary while working with Maya. I hope this will not extend the time required to work on this project past what is available to me.

My dream goal to have completed by the end of the semester, whether in Japan or not, is a 3 minute short-film that would act as a teaser for trying to finance the creation of my movie idea as a whole at a later date. However, due to studies upon arrival in Japan, continuation of this project before the end of the semester will be difficult.
