Episode One – Gennai’s Message

 

Scene: Highton View terrace. (You here that music they used to play when the group is just hanging around) We see scenes of the digidestined going through their daily lives, while Tai’s voice narrates.

 

Tai: Hey, it’s me, Tai! I just realized how long it’s been since we left the Digi-world; four years! Can you believe it? When I think about what happened back then, I also see how much we’ve all changed. (We see Sora practicing flower arranging) For instance, Sora’s started working in her Mom’s flower shop. Don’t worry, she still knows how to have fun! (We then see her taking a break to play soccer with Tai and his little sister Kari) There’s me! Personally, I don’t think I’ve changed much, except for…well, a bit of a change in relationship with Sora…anyway, Kari’s grown up a lot! She has just as much kindheartedness for other people as ever, that’s for sure! She’s eleven now, just like T.K. Speaking of which… (It cuts to Matt playing football with a MUCH taller T.K.; he’s as tall, if not taller, than Matt now!) T.K. is even more independent now. Matt and he have bonded even more now that T.K. can play football with Matt every Sunday! Matt said their parents worked out some sort of deal to let them spend more time with each other. (It also cuts to Joe studying hard with his friend, Maria in her room) Joe has a grown as well. You’d think he’d be the last one to have a girlfriend! In reality,  Joe and Maria are just friends, but I can tell Joe’s got a crush! (Snickers) (Allison opens the door and tells Maria that dinner is ready.) Oh yeah, Maria also has a sister, Allison. She’s the one who gives me all of the juicy secrets about Maria and Joe! She’s going to the same school as Izzy and Mimi. Maria’s a Senior, believe it or not! Anyway, you probably want to find out about the other digi-destined. (Then it shows Mimi walking past the T.V. tower where Angewomon defeated Myotismon…almost. She looks pensive, and somewhat sad.) Mimi is fourteen now, too. She accidentally lost her hat when we were leaving the digi-world, but I think she’s out-grown it anyway. She hasn’t really been the same since leaving Digi-world. Most of the time she’s either walking around with Matt, or we just don’t see her. (The last digidestined, Izzy, is seen on his laptop computer next to the field where Tai, Kari, and Sora are still playing soccer. He’s mucher taller now, and he looks frustrated.) Oh yeah, lets not forget our computer genius! He’s not so short anymore, but his love for computers hasn’t dimmed a bit! (There’s a close shot of what he is doing on the screen. He types in a message: “Gennai, are you there? It’s Izzy. Please answer.” He presses ‘enter’, but he gets no reply. We see his reflection on the screen; he’s losing hope.) But lately, he’s been having some problems…

 

Sora, Tai, and Kari come over to Izzy to see what’s the matter.

 

Tai: (smiling) Hey, Izzy, what’s with the long face? Did the mega frame crash or something?

 

Izzy: (closing his laptop with his head down) No.

 

Sora: Then what then? You’ve been working on something all weekend; I haven’t seen you off that computer since…

 

Izzy: …last Friday night. Tai, I thought I told you to tell her!

 

Tai: (blushes) Well, ah, heh-heh, I guess it kinda slipped my mind when I went to her house…

 

Izzy: That’s all right, I’ll tell you Sora. I had fallen asleep while looking for someone’s address on my computer…

 

It fades to another scene. We see Izzy fast asleep in his  bead, his computer still turned on and on his lap. The screen goes black for an instant, then a blurry image appears and a voice is heard, “Izzy, where are you? Izzy! Come in!” Izzy jolts upright and sees the image, which is a little clearer; clear enough to see that it’s… “Gennai!” says Izzy. After recovering from the shock, he gets to work. We hear him muttering, and the camera pans back out the window as he attempts to keep the connection clear; “Hold on, Gennai, I’m loosing you…I need to find the right frequency…no, wait…maybe it’s…hey! I think I found…” The scene fades to black, and we here the sound of the computer turning off.

 

It fades in to Izzy’s fists, which are clenched, but still in his lap.

Izzy: If only I’d acted sooner…we could’ve found out what was wrong…

 

Sora: (putting a hand on his shoulder) It’s all right, Izzy. None of us blame you. You did the best you could. Besides, (camera cuts to a full shot of the group, and she stands up) you can’t spend the entire weekend slaving over this.

 

Kari: Yeah! (Then looks worried) Uh-oh, I should be working on my biology project. It’s due on Monday. (She starts to run back home) Bye, guys!

 

All: Bye, Kari!

 

She runs past T.K. and Matt, who wave hi to Kari, then walk over to Tai, Sora, and Izzy. Izzy has put his computer back in his backpack.

 

Matt: What’s up, Izzy? Still working on the Gennai message?

 

Izzy: (sits back on the bench) Yes, but I haven’t had much progress. I’ve double-checked every frequency, and I can’t find him anywhere. I can’t even explain how he contacted me in the first place.

 

Tai: Well, all I know is that Izzy did the best he could, so let’s forget about it and live our lives, O.K.?

 

T.K.: I wish we could’ve found out what he wanted. (folds arms) I miss Patamon, what if we could have gone back to see him? I want to find out how he’s doing! What if he’s hurt?

 

Sora: Don’t worry, T.K.! We took care of all the bad stuff already when we were there, they’re perfectly safe!

 

(Pans back slowly and gets to sky while Matt speaks)

Matt: Then why did Gennai send the message? It’s been four years, who knows? What if this is so big, that we don’t even know what’s going on?

 

(Pans to the right; a close-up of two digivices under someone’s bed)

 

Tai: Whatever’s going on, I think it’s about time that we get some help and figure out if the Digi-world needs our help!

 

(Commercial Break)

 

Scene: It’s night-time. The camera shows all the digi-destined fast asleep. Mimi is muttering in her sleep(“Palmon, where are you…”) T.K.’s feet stick out from the covers, but Matt is curled up into a ball. Tai and Kari are both snoring loudly... Izzy’s computer is open and on his desk near the window. It stays like this for about five seconds, but then, the screen lights up, and a green light shines in Izzy’s face. He wakes up grumpily. He sees the computer, then springs into the chair.

 

Izzy: (concentrating and continuously typing) Come on, come on…

 

(The screen reveals an image resembling Gennai.)

 

Izzy: Gennai!! It’s you!

 

Gennai: (In his usual stiff pose, but he talks very friendly) Hello there,

Izzy! How are things in the real world? Did my trolley car make its way back to San Francisco?

 

Izzy: Gennai! How is this possible? I’ve checked all the possible frequencies, but you weren’t on any of them!

 

Gennai: Sorry, no time to explain. I have a special job for you, Izzy. Get all the digidestined together, and meet me at the camp. Go to the place where you first got your digivices.

 

Izzy: What?! It’s the middle of the night! Everyone is asleep! Besides, it would take forever to get there!

 

Gennai: Don’t worry, Maria can drive you.

 

Izzy: Who?!

 

Gennai: Joe’s friend. Don’t forget to bring her sister Allison, too. They’ve become part of this ordeal as well.

 

Izzy: But how…?

 

Gennai: The last time I sent an e-mail to you, I also sent two new digivices to their house. I need them to bring those, too.

 

Izzy: Gennai, do you realize how crazy this all sounds? Tell me why you’re doing this!

 

Gennai: Sorry, the frequency’s breaking up! I’m running out of quarters….

 

(Static covers Gennai’s face, and you can here muffled phrases)

 

Gennai: Don’t forget…digivices…Maria and Allison…are…the new…

 

(The computer shuts off. Izzy sits back and stares into the sky outside. He hesitates, then picks up the phone and begins dailing. The following scene shows all the other digidestined learning of Gennai’s instructions. They all get their clothes on, and we also see Joe going to Maria’s house. You see him talking to a very sleepy Maria, who lets him in, but thinks he’s had too much caffeine.  Exasperated, he goes into her room, and finds the two digivices under their bunk bed, while Allison emerges from the covers.)

 

Maria: But Joe…

 

Joe: Maria, please do this. We need your help. I’m only asking for one favor.

 

Allison: What’s going on?

 

Maria: Joe’s gone over the deep end…

 

Joe: No I haven’t! Please, Maria! If you drive me to the camp, I’ll do anything for you! I know how to wash and wax…

 

Maria: (Putting hand over Joe’s mouth) O.K., O.K.! Just don’t wake up my parents!

 

(Allison hops off the bed and starts to put her shoes on.)

 

Allison: I’m not missing this! Count me in, Joe! I’ve always wanted to run away from home for the night!

 

Maria: I’m not running away! And you are going to stay here.

 

Allison: (looks sly) If you don’t let me come, I’ll tell Mom and Dad! Besides, there are two what-cha-ma-call-its, aren’t there? One’s mine! I should come!

 

Joe: She’s right Maria. Izzy told me that she needed to come, too. Besides, we need to make sure your parents don’t wake up and worry about you.

 

Maria: (looking miffed) Well…

 

(Joe and Allison make puppy-faces)

 

Maria: All right, let’s go!

 

(Cue “Hey Digimon”)

 

(We see Maria driving the ‘burb’ to pick up all the digi-destined. You can see that they’re all wearing their digi-vices. Once they’re all in the ‘burb’, they drive all the way to the campsite. The song ends as they begin to walk towards the spot where they first got their digivices.)

 

Kari: So…now what?

 

Izzy: I guess we wait. Gennai lost the connection before I could get further instructions. (turns to whole group) Did everyone bring his or her digivices?

 

All: Yeah.

 

Maria: Excuse me, but I’d like to know what on earth is going on! Why did Allison and I have to come? And what are “digivices”?

 

Izzy: I’m afraid that I can only answer one of your questions. Gennai didn’t have enough time to tell me why you’re here, but I know that you are definitely part of all this.

 

Allison: (sarcastically) Oh, that explains a lot. I thought you were supposed to be some kind of prodigy….

 

Izzy: Hey, what are you saying?

 

Allison: (smiling at his annoyance) Calm down, Zumi! Don’t get all excited!

 

Izzy: (frustrated) It’s Izzy Izumi!

 

Matt: (whispering to Joe) What’s her problem?

 

Joe: Ever since they met in the car, those two haven’t hit it off very well.

 

Sora: I thought something was going on when she started calling him that nickname; he hates it!

 

Mimi: How cute!

 

Izzy: (still a bit mad at Allison) Anyway, the digivices were given to us four years ago by Gennai. They enable our digimon to digivolve.

 

(Maria and Allison have those silly anime faces when the other person isn’t making any sense; not to mention HUGE sweat drops!)

 

Izzy: (mushroom coming out of mouth) I think we’ll be able to explain it better when Gennai gets here. I have a feeling that we may be going back to the Digi-world.

 

(Cue triumphant music)

 

Tai: Really?! That’s great, Izzy!

 

T.K.: I get to see Patamon again!!

 

(Others say stuff like ‘wow’ and ‘that’s so cool’ and ‘Oh, man, I should have brought some toilet paper rolls…’ while there’s a close-up shot of Mimi’s face. She then jumps up and down uncontrollably)

 

Mimi: Palmon!! I’m coming back!! (She gives Matt a huge hug, and he starts blushing mad.)

 

Izzy: Now hold it just a second. I’m just guessing here. We don’t even know if the Digi-world is in any trouble. We just have to wait and see what Gennai has to say.

 

(The next second, a glowing light bursts from the ground in the middle of the group. A holographic image appears. It’s Gennai.)

 

Gennai: Ah, good, you all made it. I hope you’re all still awake. Have you brought the digivices?

 

Tai: Gennai! Tell us what’s going on!

 

Gennai: I will Tai, be patient. I just want to make sure Maria and Allison made it.

 

(Joe pushes Maria forward, and Allison comes forward behind her.)

 

Maria: (meekly) Uh…hi.

 

Gennai: Did you happen to find something green with a small screen on it under your bed, Maria?

 

Maria: (taking out her digivice and looking at it) Uh, yeah! What is it?

 

Gennai: It’s you’re digivice. Allison, did you get one too?

 

Allison: Uh-huh!

 

Gennai: Good. You’ll be needing them shortly. Now I want everyone to hold them out at arms length in a circle. That’s it…there we go. I’ll be seeing you in the Digi-world!

 

All: Hey!

 

(Gennai’s holographic image disappears, but a few seconds later, lights shoot out of each of the digivices, one at a time. Joe has to hold Maria’s arm up; she’s scared!!)

 

Maria: Joe! What’s going on?! This green thing is scaring me!!

 

Joe: It’s O.K. Maria. Just stay with me. I know where we’re going.

 

Allison: Will there be a phone there? I need to call mom and dad!

 

Izzy: Not likelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

 

(Izzy is cut off. Cue ‘Here we Go’. All ten of them are sucked into the huge column formed by the digivices. We see them (of course) spinning and falling. Maria is petrified, but Allison looks just semi-curious…’What a cool dream!’)

 

Commercial break

 

Scene: The digi-world. All the digi-destined are lying on the ground, and Tai wakes up.

 

Tai: (eyes wide open) Guys, wake up! We’re here!

 

(They wake up one at a time, and stare at their surroundings. It looks identical to the place where they arrived for the first time.)

 

Maria: (minor sweat-drop) H-How did we get here?

 

Izzy: (happily) I have no idea! I just know that right now, we’re in the Digi-world!

 

All: (cheering)

 

Allison: Uh, Maria, I’d look behind you if I were you…

 

Maria: Huh?

 

(She turns around, and gives a yelp; there’s a small in-training sitting behind her!)

 

Savumon: (bouncing up and down around Maria’s legs) Maria, you made it! I’m Savumon! Nice to meet you!

 

Maria: You can talk?! What’s going on?

 

Savumon: I’m your new best friend, Maria!

 

Onimon: Hey Allison, down here! It’s me, Onimon!

 

Allison: What…? Hey, what in the world are these things?

 

Savumon and Onimon: Digimon!

 

(Rest of group is laughing at Maria’s state. She’s only standing on one leg, and is holding the other close to her stomach, while looking nervously at Savumon and Onimon.)

 

Maria: Digi…? Hey, didn’t you say something about Digimon earlier, Izzy?

 

Izzy: Yeah, the digivice you have can help Savumon digivolve. Hey, (looks surprised and turns to the group) Do you know what this means?

 

Tai: Hey, you’re right! Maria and Allison are digidestined!

 

M and A: What?!

 

Matt: It makes sense to me. They have digivices, and Savumon and Onimon aren’t here just to greet us. They’re Maria and Allison’s Digimon!

 

(All this time, Maria is still acting apprehencive of Savumon, but Allison is less afraid.)

 

Allison: So, you’re my digimon?

 

Onimon: Uh-huh! I’ll protect you from any bad digimon that come.

 

Maria: Bad…?

 

(All of the sudden, a loud roar is heard, and Kuwagamon comes crashing through the trees, barely missing the group.)

 

Maria: (latched on to Joe’s arm, with those anime white spots dancing around her head) I don’t wanna die!!!!

 

Allison: What’s that thing?!

 

Sora: I don’t believe it! Kuwagamon is back!

 

Joe: Oh man, we definitely need help! Last time we defeated Kuwagamon, we had to use all our rookies! But none of them are here!

 

Izzy: (looking around desperately, then sees Allison and Onimon) Allison! Onimon has to digivolve!

 

Allison: You think I know what I’m doing?! I don’t even know what ‘digivolve’ means!

 

Kari: Look, he’s coming back!!

 

(It’s another near miss. After Kuwagamon passes through, you see him come back for another try.)

 

Savumon: Maria, I’ll protect you!

 

Maria: Hey! You can’t fight with that big bug! You’re just a little ball of…stuff!

 

Savumon: I have to!

 

Allison: Onimon…you too?

 

Onimon: It’s the only way!

 

(Onimon and Savumon jump into action and shoot bubbles at Kuwagamon. He flies a little off course, right into a big grove of trees.)

 

Joe: Hey! They did it!

 

Izzy: I wouldn’t speak too soon…

 

(After a second, Kawagamon stands up from the trees and roars again. He then stalks toward the group.)

 

Mimi: What are we gonna do?

 

Matt: We’re rookie-less and completely vulnerable!

 

Onimon and Savumon: (jumping toward Kuwagamon) Not for looooong!!!

 

(You see the usual digivolving clip. Before it shows them turning in a circle, We see a shot of Maria and Allison staring at their glowing digivices. Then the digivolution begins…Savumon…digivolve…to…Okomon! Okomon looks similar to a bunny version of Gatomon, and has huge feet with clawless paws… Onimon… digivolve… to…Topomon! Topomon looks like a mole with no eyes. Instead, she has a mass of pink finger things where her nose should be, and her claws are like that of a sloth’s’. She also has two black lace-like ears sprouting from her head)

 

Maria: They’re…bigger!

 

Tai: (whispering to Matt) Where have I heard that before?

 

(Cue “Let’s Kick It Up”)

 

Okomon: (crosses arms, then flings a series of rings at Kuwagamon) Psychic…vision!

 

(It hits Kuwagamon on the head, and he stumbles back to the edge of a cliff. The group follows, and Topomon steps in front.)

 

Topomon: (starts spinning) Sand storm!!

 

(Kuwagamon is blinded, and stumbles off the cliff. He falls with a big splash into the river.)

 

All: Yay!!!!

 

Maria: (running to hug Okomon, who happens to have the ability to float in mid-air) Savumon! You saved all of us!

 

Okomon: Actually, my name’s Okomon now! You helped me digivolve, so I got bigger, and a new name!

 

Allison: Nice to meet you, Topomon.

 

Topomon: (speaking with a lisp) Hey, I’m still the same thing, Allison! I just got a little bigger and better equipped.

 

(Camera pans up to the sky and eventually fades out while they finish speaking)

 

T.K.: That’s awesome, Maria!

 

Matt: If Savumon and Onimon hadn’t digivolved, we’d have been on Kuwagamon’s menu for sure!

 

(Scene fades in to a dark room with a computer screen on the wall. There’s a chair in front of it. The person sitting there has spiky short hair, but we can only hear his voice.)

 

Damien: So, they’re here. (The computer screen shows close-ups of Maria, Allison, and their digimon) I think Piedmon was over-reacting. They don’t look like much of a challenge.

 

(We see the silhouette of a girl with straight shoulder-length hair  standing next to him.)

 

Crystal: Well, we should be careful anyway. Besides its what’s on the inside that counts, right? (laughs annoyingly)

 

(Another silhouette is shown of a heavy built teenager.)

 

Solomon: As long as we get the good end of the deal, I’m in. But Piedmon better not be playing any tricks on us.

 

Damien: Whatever. Let’s just observe them a little longer. I want to know what the best way will be to destroy them.

 

(Fades out)
