Yaoi?
Call
it yaoi, call it boy's love, call it gay, it all
amounts to the same thing. But do Ikumi and Kouzi
dig each other?
*Massive
Spoilers*
Point
1: They both have girlfriends.
In the series, both boys are interested in girls.
Ikumi and Kozue are an item from the very start,
while Kouzi struggles to find out who's in his
heart, Aoi or Fina. They're obviously straight in
canon.
Point
2: They're a cute pair.
In the beginning, Ikumi and Kouzi are roommates,
and obviously get along very well. They
compliment each other as co-pilots, with Ikumi
taking the initiative and Kouzi catching the
details. These personality traits carry over to
their daily lives, where Kouzi lets Ikumi lead
them.
Point
3: Two Words- Black Oze.
During the last roughly third of the series,
Kozue is injured and Ikumi assumes control of the
ship in an effort to correct the system that
precipitated her injury. He reveals a dark side
to his personality, often called 'Black Oze' or
'Black Ikumi'. His relationships with everyone (except
Yuuki) suffers due to his control complex, and
when Kouzi confronts him about it, not even their
old friendship can save him.
Point
4: Ikumi's Personality.
Ikumi is the type of person who falls in love
with the person, not the body. It doesn't matter
who they are, just that he cares for them. He
seems to specialize in taboo, anyways- the love
of his life was his big sister.
Point
5: "Dareka to tsutaitai."
"I want to talk to someone." This is
Kouzi's plea to Aoi and Juli. Let him go to the
Lift-ship; he has to talk to Ikumi. Kouzi
believes that he can get through to Ikumi, even
after Ikumi hurt him. In a way, he does, although
it takes a complete mental breakdown to stop
Black Ikumi.
Point
6: Meeting Again.
When they meet for the second time, Kouzi wants
to see Ikumi again- the old Ikumi who was his
friend. Ikumi is hesitant, uncertain of whether
Kouzi can accept him after what he did. But Kouzi
reassures him. He wants him back.
***
While
the creators obviously intended for the boys'
friendship to be a major issue through the
series, the shounen-ai aspect was not deliberate
(seeing as they have girlfriends and all...). But
their personalities and interaction make this a
more plausible pair than most others.
