Chiba Mamoru lost his parents when he was a young boy to a terrible car crash. Since then he has had few friends until he found out he was a little more than whom he seemed. He first met Usagi while being hit in the head with her crumpled up exam paper, what a first impression. In the preceding episodes, whenever he and Usagi bumped into each other, they would always quarrel. He first found out that he was the masked man Tuxedo Kamen, when he had proof after he transformed. He was fighting Zoicite an d managed to get one of the rainbow crystals from him. Still having the crystal after he changed back into Mamoru proved to himself that he was in fact Tuxedo Kamen. Before getting the crystal he didn’t realize that he was transforming; odd as that may sound. His duty is to protect Sailor Moon and the Sailor Senshi wherever they go. He is often considered the Senshi of the Earth.
Like Usagi, Mamoru has more than one identity. In his past when the Moon Kingdom was at its height, he was the Prince of Elysion on Earth, Endymion. Although their love was forbidden, he and the Moon Princess, Serenity, fell in love and saw each other frequently until the Earth attacked the Moon. There was a ball at the Moon Kingdom and Serenity was waiting for Endymion. Everyone was happy dancing until the attack hit. In the battle, Endymion sided with the moon to protect his love from harm. Unfortunately, both of the young lovers were killed in the attack. Later he was reborn on Earth as Chiba Mamoru. But this identity is also not the last. In the future city of Neo Tokyo, he rules alongside his wife, Neo Queen Serenity as King Endymion. It was he who sent the bad dreams to the Mamoru of the past to make sure that his love for Usagi was pure and strong.
