A trickle of rain started to pour down as D made his way down the almost over vegetated path. His horse, Tai, was at a slow trot while. D was able to keep his figure as the horse trotted down the path. Trees surrounded him and the path continued to get narrower and narrower. A flash of lightning brightened up the sky and was soon followed by thunder. D could start to see the outline of the village that had hired him. “He Yah!” D had yelled at the top of his lungs and kicked at Tai’s sides. The horse seemed to take off almost immediately and without any precaution on how dangerous the path was. Within 15 minutes, Tai had reached the village, which seemed to be barren at the time. The rain hadn’t let up and there were more frequent flashes of light in the sky. He rode Tai to what seemed to be the middle of the village. D looked around to find shabby little house and buildings. He saw silent faces through the windows staring at his pale complexion. A small, wrinkled, old man came out of one of the larger buildings and while shaking asked, “A...are you the Dunpeal (half vampire/human) b...bounty hunt...er?
In a cold, dark, almost harsh voiced, replied, “Yes, here’s the deal. Half now, half when I dispose of this forest sprite terrorizing your town.”
“A-alright.”
“I trust that you’ll look after Tai while I’m gone, correct?”
“Y-yessir.”
“Goood boy.” D patted the meek man on his balding head.
The old man poured several dozen gold coins into D’s hand, which he soon pocketed. D walked Tai to a post and tied him there. D patted Tai and started off on the path. The rain poured down harder and it seemed like the lightning was trying to aim D and the thunder trying to make him deaf. The wind made D’s midnight cape flail behind him. He felt the hilt of his sword to make sure it was there...just to reassure himself. No matter how good you are or whom you go against, you always get the same feeling before a fight, nervousness. D wandered off of the beaten path to try to find this sprite. After an hour of searching, D saw a diminutive amount of green in the corner of his eye and his heart started to race. He quickly turned around and heard an insane cackle. There it was, floating in the air but no larger than 5 feet. It quickly dived and speared into D, knocking him to the ground. D unsheathed his long, curved sword and used it as a prop to pull himself up. The sprite came spiraling at him, but D did a quick slash to deter the sprite from coming any closer. The sprite hurried to pull up, and without even seeing it, D lunged and plunged his sword deep into the sprite’s body. They both soon fell to the ground with a thud. D staggered up and twisted his sword just to make sure the sprite was dead. He then pulled the sword out of the body and the rain cleansed the sword of its blood. D grabbed the head of the sprite and quickly chopped it off with a single, fluent slash. He then placed the head in a bag and was off back to the village to collect the rest of his fee.
