Saavedro

This section is dedicated to Saavedro, from the excellent game Myst III: Exile. Saavedro comes from Narayan, an Age (books which contain worlds) created by Atrus. Sirus and Achenar, Atrus' sons, were responsible for the destruction of Narayan, and are also the reason Saavedro was trapped in the Age of J'nanin for twenty years. As a result, Saavedro plans to take revenge on Atrus and his family. He links into Atrus' study, and steals the Age of Releeshan, which contains Atrus' family and friends.

Saavedro is, of course, a very tragic character, as he has been separated from his wife and two daughters, all of whom he presumes is dead. As you travel throughout the game, you find messages and notes written by Saavedro, telling of the pain he has felt because of what Sirus and Achenar did. Near the game's end, you confront Saavedro in his home Age of Narayan, which seems to be a desolate and dead world. You have a few choices. Make wrong decisions, which leads to Saavedro killing you, or you can let him go back to the Lattice Tree, where his family *could* still be alive, or you can leave him trapped there. If you choose the last option, then you are one crule SOB.

One thing I really love about this game is that it's in first person prospective. The characters actually talk to YOU. Of course, you can't respond, but it's still pretty cool. The Ages you visit while tracking Saavedro are absolutely gorgeous.

Yes. He is played by Brad. NYAH!!!

Saavedro's first appearance in Atrus' study Saavedro linking out of the study after stealing Releeshan Saavedro running from you Saavedro in the observatory pacing... pacing... Speaking to you through the window Showing off Releeshan Doing stuff ... And resumes pacing He's back there, past the big egg thing. He's looking out the window He walks right past the window and ignores you! Linking out of J'nanin right before you enter the room. Darn The first message left by Saavedro He's telling Atrus (who he assumes is persuing him, when in fact YOU are) what Sirus and Achenar did to him Very grim 'Worried about Releeshan? I have it.' No crap, Sherlock. 'But if you want to do something about it, you're gonna have to open this device.' Okay, where's a crowbar... 'Find the three symbols, Atrus...' '...and don't keep me waiting forever.' He sees that you definately ARE NOT Atrus... ...and he's quite peeved. Yelling at himself for being so stupid 'Look at your world. Look at what's left of it!' 'When are you gonna get it through your THICK SKULL that YOU DO NOT MATTER TO HIM?!' Remebering that you're there, watching 'We're stuck here, y'know.' 'The linking book back to J'nanin is gone. Left behind when I linked out of Atrus' study.' 'And as for getting into Narayan, well look around you.' '...You're just as stuck here as I am.' 'At least until I open this book and I show Atrus what it's like to watch your friends and relatives die.' 'If you DO find a way out of here...I suggest you think very carefully about using it.' 'Because of one thing I know about linking books: the doors they open don't close behind you.' A death threat. How lovely. In shock that you were able to lower the outer shield 'They're ALIVE?! How did you...' He doesn't exactly know what to do here... He can't get out after all. When one door opens, the other closes He gets an idea... It's not hopeless after all...he remembers that YOU'RE here He opens the door to the gondola 'You see, I still have something he wants. Something that he sent YOU to bring back for him...' '...Releeshan.' 'Drop the outer barrier...' 'When I'm out by the gondola, switch the shield so the outer barrier is open.' 'And in return, I'll give up Releeshan.' waiting for you to drop the shield pacing around outside you trap him! he's shocked 'No...' 'Oh God...no...' '...Please don't do this to me...' 'Not when my family could still be alive out there!' 'You want the book?' 'Here...I'll give you the book.' Congradulations, you've retrieved Releeshan! 'Just please...PLEASE don't do this...' 'Please...I can't do this again! Please don't leave me trapped here! I can't!!' Saavedro gratefully waves to you when you let him go; I cried for hours after this part

A somewhat disturbing painting of Saavedro's wife, Tamra The Narayan linking book
