The History of The Anime Playground

Here lies the *sorta* history of our wonderfull little anime paradise. They're mostly the announcements that Karmie and I put up. Course, all the older ones are now gone 'cuz we didn't have the insight to actually save them back then. Ah, c'est la vie.

As a summary of the early days, it all began back in the mid 90's - before even the advent of torrents (gasp! can you believe such a thing possible?) and fansubs were difficult to come by. Me and a few friends who rather liked anime formed a group. We used to buy our own animes and lend them to each other like a trade. I'd give one tape to someone and in return, he'd give me one of his tapes and so on. In order for me to minimalize trying to explain what the series is all about, I created an episodic summary that merely consisted of just one sentence up to three at the most.

That was a long time ago. Times changed, people moved apart and there was no need for the list that I had anymore. Of course, then came Karmie. We used to give each other anime (torrent was finally here, so they're now the latest fansubs). Sometimes, she would ask about certain series and if I knew it or not. That was when I dusted off the old floppy containing my list to give to her from time to time. Then, there were also the hours we spent on aim. Usually, whenever I'm the one messaging her, I opened up with a random quote from some anime to see if she knew it. Then, it happened - the final piece to spark the creation of this little paradise of ours. She told me that I should create a site for all the useless quotes from anime that I remember and the list I had could be put in there as well, since there aren't many sites that had summaries of actual episodes. Rather, most sites only had an overall summary of the series in question. With that idea in mind, the rest is now history!

25May06: My birthday today. Another year older and feeling older when I hear people in the same class as me excitedly talking about getting some beer from their friends. My little sister also graduates from high school today. We went to Macaroni Grill to celebrate my birthday/little sister's graduation. Karmie has fled the country to retreat in Puerto Rico for a summer with her sister, so she'll be dead only to be resurrected with the turning of the season. Then, I'll be nagging her again to watch the series that I liked. Hopefully, she would have watched Mahoraba by then. Getting tired of treathening to sneak in to her house while she sleeps, kill and eat her cat, and leave the head on the foot of her bed.

17Oct05: Haven't had much chance to update the site directly with work and school taking up most of my beloved time. Now that I have some minor time to do it, there is going to be a LOT of additions. I added all of Jubei-chan 2, started finishing up Princess Tutu (that I started summarizing years ago), finished all of Mahoraba, added Hades Project Zeorymer, Dirty Pair OVA, Street Fighter II V, Earthian, Final Fantasy: Last Order and Advent Children, Sister Princess, and a whole load of other older titles that I have seen. *Whew* just thinking about it makes me tired already. Now to study for my Kanji test and convince Karmie-chan to finally stop putting off watching Mahoraba!

30May05: As y'all can see, I added an index place for something called "history." We plan on placing pages here about Japanese history, myths, as well as our site's own history. I also placed the pages for Japanese foods and words here. Yeah, it looks like crap right now, but I really haven't much time to tweak it since, Karmie-chan promised to make one with a Noir background so this one is just a temporary thingie.

27May05: On this blessed day, I was born unto this world. We went to Todai, a pretty good Japanese buffet place. Man, I ate so much Unagi and had some Yakisoba and Udon for longevity. Unagi hand roll, kani, tenpura, sukiyaki are among the stuff I...well, stuffed myself with. After all that, I had a banana chocolate crepe. W00T!

All of Elfen Lied, some more 12 Kingdoms, Chobits, all of Raimuiro Senkitan, some more of Yakitate Japan, most of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, etc. also started on the creation of new pages-one for pertinent terms for budding Otakus, historical stuff that appears in anime, Japanese (and overall Asian) foodstuf, myths and legends that appears in anime, etc.
